For the discrete spectrum nonlinear frequency division multiplexing (DS-NFDM) 16/64 amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) system, the inevitable laser impairments including frequency offset (FO) and carrier phase noise (CPN) would cause different rotations of the received signal constellations. In addition, the combined effect of FO and amplifier spontaneous emission (ASE) noise induces the eigenvalue shift, accordingly the residual channel impairment (RCI) is inevitably yielded. To address the above problems, we deduce the joint impairment model of FO, CPN and RCI, and then propose a joint equalization scheme using two-stage cascaded extended Kalman filter (TSC-EKF) for these impairments...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) are increasingly used to forecast progression trajectories of cognitive decline caused by preclinical and prodromal Alzheimer's disease (AD). Many existing studies have explored the potential of these two distinct modalities with diverse machine and deep learning approaches. But successfully fusing MRI and PET can be complex due to their unique characteristics and missing modalities. To this end, we develop a hybrid multimodality fusion (HMF) framework with cross-domain knowledge transfer for joint MRI and PET representation learning, feature fusion, and cognitive decline progression forecasting...

Recently, clustering data collected from various sources has become a hot topic in real-world applications. The most common methods for multi-view clustering can be divided into several categories: Spectral clustering algorithms, subspace multi-view clustering algorithms, matrix factorization approaches, and kernel methods. Despite the high performance of these methods, they directly fuse all similarity matrices of all views and separate the affinity learning process from the multiview clustering process. The performance of these algorithms can be affected by noisy affinity matrices...

PURPOSE: Proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint arthrodesis is a procedure employed to address arthritis, instability, and deformity. Multiple fixation methods are available to maintain stability across the arthrodesis interval, including headless compression screws (HCSs), tension band wiring (TBW), plating, and Kirschner wire constructs. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of the HCS and TBW techniques. METHODS: Thirty-two nonthumb digits from the paired upper limbs of four fresh frozen cadavers were divided into pairs, matching contralateral digits from the same specimen...

Micro-expressions (MEs) play such an important role in predicting a person's genuine emotions, as to make micro-expression recognition such an important resea rch focus in recent years. Most recent researchers have made efforts to recognize MEs with spatial and temporal information of video clips. However, because of their short duration and subtle intensity, capturing spatio-temporal features of micro-expressions remains challenging. To effectively promote the recognition performance, this paper presents a novel paralleled dual-branch attention-based spatio-temporal fusion network (PASTFNet)...

Talonavicular (TN) fusion is a common treatment for TN arthritis or deformity correction. There is incongruous evidence regarding remaining motion at the talocalcaneal and calcaneocuboid joints after TN fusion. Additionally, the effects of a malaligned TN fusion are not well understood and alignment of the fusion may be important for overall foot integrity. This project assessed the kinematic and kinetic effects of neutral and malaligned TN fusions. Ten cadaveric feet were tested on a gait simulator in four conditions: unfused, fused in neutral, fused in varus, and fused in valgus...

Currently, preoperative non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) scanning-guided stereotactic hematoma removal has achieved good results in treating HICH, but some patients still have poor prognoses. This study collected relevant clinical and radiomic data by retrospectively collecting and analyzing 432 patients who underwent stereotactic hematoma removal for HICH from January 2017 to December 2020 at the Liuzhou Workers Hospital...

Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been widely used in medical diagnosis. In practice, doctors often zoom in on LDCT slices for clearer lesions and issues, while, a simple zooming operation fails to suppress low-dose artifacts, leading to distorted details. Therefore, numerous LDCT super-resolution (SR) methods have been proposed to promote the quality of zooming without the increase of the dose in CT scanning. However, there are still some drawbacks that need to be addressed in existing methods. First, the region of interest (ROI) is not emphasized due to the lack of guidance in the reconstruction process...

This study aimed to describe the origin, insertion, and arterial supply of the intrinsic shoulder and brachial muscles of T. mexicana. We also compared the masses of the functional groups. Injury to the tarsometatarsal joint (TMT) results in instability throughout the midfoot that does not often improve with conservative management. If instability is identified, surgical intervention is frequently recommended, either open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or primary arthrodesis (PA). These two treatment options have been compared in the literature multiple times, often reporting similar outcomes. Due to this, as well as the need for subsequent hardware removal after ORIF has led many surgeons towards PA at the index surgery...

An uncommonly recognized cause of back pain is Bertolotti's syndrome which is a result of back pain due to lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (LSTV)...

The debate between ankle arthrodesis and total ankle replacement for patients with end-stage arthritis of the ankle joint is an ongoing topic in orthopedic surgery. Ankle arthrodesis, or fusion, has been the traditional treatment for ankle arthritis. It involves fusing the bones of the ankle joint together, eliminating the joint and creating a solid bony union. Arthrodesis is effective in reducing pain in the ankle, but it results in a loss of ankle motion. This can increase the load on adjacent joints, such as the subtalar joint, which may lead to accelerated degeneration and arthritis in those joints over time...

Federated learning allows multiple parties to train models while jointly protecting user privacy. However, traditional federated learning requires each client to have the same model structure to fuse the global model. In real-world scenarios, each client may need to develop personalized models based on its environment, making it difficult to perform federated learning in a heterogeneous model environment. Some knowledge distillation methods address the problem of heterogeneous model fusion to some extent. However, these methods assume that each client is trustworthy...
