The applications of photodynamic therapy (PDT) are usually limited by photosensitizers' side effects and singlet oxygen's short half-life. Herein, a mitochondria-targeted nanosystem is demonstrated to enhance the PDT efficacy by releasing a bio-precursor of photosensitizer under two-photon irradiation.
