OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) with severe chronic periodontitis and aggressive periodontitis. METHODS: A total of 436 hospitalized patients who underwent renal needle biopsy in the department of nephrology of China-Japan Friendship Hospital from November 2013 to December 2014 were recruited in the study and blindly had periodontal examination. The patients were divided into IgAN group and non-IgAN group according to the renal pathology...

Meckel diverticulum (MD) is one of the most common congenital gastrointestinal anomalies and occurs in 1.2-2% of the general population. MD usually presents with massive painless rectal bleeding, intestinal obstruction or inflammation in children and adults. Suppurative Meckel diverticulitis is uncommon in children. An experience is described of a 3-year-old girl with suppurative inflammation in a tip of MD. She complained of acute colicky abdominal pain, vomiting and periumbilical erythema. Laparoscopic surgery found a relatively long MD with necrotic and fluid-filled cystic end, which was attatched to abdominal wall caused by inflammation...

OBJECTIVE: To study the natural progress of different degree chronic periodontitis and its association with IL-1B-511 genetic polymorphisms. METHODS; 100 subjects with chronic periodontitis were selected and examined at baselined and in the 6 month and in 1 year on attatchment loss at 6 sites of each tooth. DNA samples were obtained with buccal swabbing technique and were further analyzed for IL-1B-511 genotype polymorphisms using PCR-RFLP-based method in all subjects. RESULTS: The mean AL increases were 1...

To understand the local hemodynamics of modified TF-AHCB carotid bifurcation model, using particle image velocimetry technique to measure the instantaneous velocity distribution of the model attatched to a circuit. The velocity was controlled by regulating the height of the reservoir. The working fluid consists of glycerine and water mixture with viscosity of 3.75 mPa.s similar to human blood. Instantaneous velocity fields were obtained by PIV and the shear stresses were calculated according to the velocity...

The function of ancillary domains and modules attatched to the catalytic domain of mutidomain proteases, such as the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), are not well understood. The importance of discrete MMP substrate binding sites termed exosites on domains located outside the catalytic domain was first demonstrated for native collagenolysis. The essential role of hemopexin carboxyl-domain exosites in the cleavage of noncollagenous substrates such as chemokines has also been recently revealed. This article updates a previous review of the role of substrate recognition by MMP exosites in both preparing complex substrates, such as collagen, for cleavage and for tethering noncollagenous substrates to MMPs for more efficient proteolysis...

A method of separating rosette-forming cells on columns with an immunosorbent based on sephadex G-75 is described and has been tested. The protein antigen (bovine serum albumin-BSA) is attatched by covalent bonds to the surface of the Sephadex granules oxidized by sodium periodate. Cells with receptors on their surface were tested by the rosette method. Up to 88% of the rosette-forming cells were retained on a column packed with BSA-Sephadex granules. Nonspecific retention of the cells was relatively small, about 4%...

Fab dimers were prepared by pepsin digestion from the immunoglobulin fraction of a rabbit antiserum towards the Yac Moloney virus lymphoma cells. Daunomycin was attatched to these (Fab)2 by covalent binding. The resultant conjugates exerted pharmacological toxic activity and specificity towards Yac target cells similar to that observed previously with conjugates of intact anti-Yac IgG. The activity was manifested both in vitro by inhibition of RNA synthesis and by the effect of reduction of the growth of the tumor cells in vivo after short exposure to the conjugates...

Highly active, essentially homogeneous, preparations of ferrocytochrome c oxidase (EC have been obtained from both yeast and beef heart by extraction with cholate, fractionation with ammonium sulfate, and replacement of cholate by Tween 20. The molecular weights of the resultant proteins equal 260 +/- 23 X 10(3) and 205 +/- 10(3); they contain seven and six different polypeptide subunits, respectively, all in equimolar amounts, with apparent molecular weights of 42.4, 34.1, 24.7, 14.6, 14.6, 12.3, 10...
