INTRODUCTION: Treatment of metastatic vertebral fractures without neural compression is performed with percutaneous cementation techniques. The increase in intratumoral pressure by these techniques can send tumor cells into the bloodstream. To prevent this dissemination and improve pain treatment, ablation techniques have been introduced that would allow the creation of a cavity in the tumor prior to cementation or directly necrosing the metastasis when its size is small. MATERIAL: We present the experience with ablation of 2 hospitals and two different ablation techniques...

We present the case of a 58-year-old female with no relevant medical or surgical history, who was referred to our hospital with a solitary hepatic lesion. She presented a slightly abnormal liver function in a routine blood test: ALT 71 U/l (range 0-33), AST 40 U/l (range 0-32) and GGT 71 U/l (range 0-40), with no symptoms. Ultrasound imaging showed a 3-cm-size focal lesion with a peripheral hypoechoic rim in the right hepatic lobe. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan after contrast injection revealed a subcapsular hypodense lesion in segment VII with capsular retraction...

BACKGROUND: When a major hepatic resection is necessary, sometimes the future liver remnant is not enough to maintain sufficient liver function and patients are more likely to develop liver failure after surgery. AIM: To test the hypothesis that performing a percutaneous radiofrecuency liver partition plus percutaneous portal vein embolization (PRALPPS) for stage hepatectomy in pigs is feasible. METHODS: Four pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus) both sexes with weights between 25 to 35 kg underwent percutaneous portal vein embolization with coils of the left portal vein...

INTRODUCTION: The treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients without structural heart disease using radiofrequency ablation of pulmonary veins is a recently developed procedure with a good clinical success rate, although there have only been a few published series. We analyzed our results with this technique. METHOD: The procedure was performed in 33 highly symptomatic patients with focal atrial fibrillation that had probably originated in the pulmonary veins...
