AIM: Generally, the classification of thyroidectomy as benign pathology is: multinodular toxic goitre, simple goitre, toxic adenoma, Base-dow disease, Hashimoto's tyroiditis Subtotal thyroidectomy provides for the removal of the gland except for a bilateral residue of about 6-10 g, near total thyroidectomy provides for the near total removal of the gland except for a residue inferior to 5 grams. Near total thyroidectomy has taken the place of the subtotal thyroidectomy. METHODS: In two years, in our institute, there have been exeuted: 96 near total thyrodectomies, 96 total thyroidetomies, 8 lobectomies ad two revues for recurrencies...

INTRODUCTION: A case of sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma with eosinophilia of the thyroid gland is described. RESULTS: The patient, a 32 year-old female with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, presented with a 4 cm nodule of the right lobe of the thyroid gland. The tumour was constituted by squamoid cords infiltrating a dense fibro-jaline stroma rich in eosinophils. The patient is alive and well 14 months after surgery. We measured the 127I distribution within tyroid tissue to find out where intrathyroid iodine was deposited during iodine treatment in eight Tunisian female patients (aged 33-58 yr) with endemic euthyroid goiter. Before surgery, five patients were treated during 6 months either by Lugol's solution (group 1: three patients) or by Lugol's and L-thyroxine (group 2: two patients). All patients remained euthyroid during the course of the treatment, which supplied 3.8 mg/day iodine. Three other patients did not receive Lugol's solution (control group)...

A parathyroid adenoma is reported in a girl aged 12 years in whom hypercalcaemia was discovered by chance. Investigation of calcium metabolism suggested the diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism and studies of the urinary cyclic AMP and determination of the plasma parathyroid hormone concentration further added to the evidence. The diagnosis of parathyroid adenoma was made after determination of the parathyroid hormone concentration at various sights during selective catheterization of the tyroid veins.
