PURPOSE: To investigate the validity of using tibial capsular reflection and septum in the posterior compartment as landmark during posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction (PCLR). METHODS: Anatomic measurements were obtained for 12 fresh human cadaveric knee specimens to observe the spatial position of the tibial insertion of the PCL in relation to the posterior septum and the capsular reflection in the posterior compartment. Sixty patients who underwent reconstruction of the PCL between 2020 and 2023 were also retrospectively investigated...

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to perform a scoping review of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) concerning the use of functional anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) braces and to clarify the nomenclature for bracing relevant to ACL injury treatment in order to support prescribing clinicians. METHODS: A PubMed search for CPGs for the use of braces following ACL injury or reconstruction was performed. CPGs on the treatment of ACL injuries with sufficient attention to postoperative braces were included in this scoping review...

The aim of this study was to analyze lower leg muscle forces during strength exercises such as back squats, good mornings and split squats, with a particular emphasis on females. By focusing on females, who are more vulnerable to anterior cruciate ligament injuries, we aimed to better understand muscle engagement and its role in injury prevention. Eight participants were monitored during exercises with a barbell load of 25% of body weight and, during the back squat, an additional 50% load. The analysis was conducted using personalized musculoskeletal models, electromyography (EMG) and Vicon motion capture systems to assess various muscle groups, including the m...

Background Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage, brings together over two million pilgrims in the city of Makkah to participate in a series of rituals. Given the physically demanding nature of the Hajj, pilgrims are susceptible to musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries and exhaustion. MSK pain and injuries are frequent occurrences among pilgrims, necessitating an assessment of the scope of this issue. Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of MSK injuries among pilgrims during the 2023 Hajj season...

BACKGROUND: Elbow ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) repair with suture brace augmentation shows good time-zero biomechanical strength and a more rapid return to play compared with UCL reconstruction. However, there are concerns about overconstraint or stress shielding with nonabsorbable suture tape. Recently, a collagen-based bioinductive absorbable structural scaffold has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for augmentation of soft tissue repair. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: This study aimed to assess the initial biomechanical performance of UCL repair augmented with this scaffold...

The dataset with osteogenic differentiation of human PDLSC was downloaded from the GEO database. The Weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was performed to identify key modules and hub genes. In addition, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analysis was conducted with limma. Differentially expressed genes (DEG) analysis between mechanical force (MF) and the control group was conducted. The gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was applied to identify the functional enrichment in different MF groups. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) of transcriptomic data was performed to identify the highly correlated genes in human PDLC in response to MF...

This retrospective case series of prospective data aims to describe the transaxillary approach for the treatment of upper thoracic spine pathology. Various surgical techniques and approaches have been reported across the literature to address upper thoracic spine pathology, including the cervicothoracic approach, anterior transsternal approach, posterolateral approach, supraclavicular approach, and lateral parascapular approaches. These techniques are invasive. A minimally invasive, less morbid, and direct access approach to the pathology of the upper thoracic spine has not been reported in the literature...

BACKGROUND: The mechanotransduction mechanisms by which cells regulate tissue remodeling are not fully deciphered. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are crucial to various physiological processes, including cell cycle, differentiation, and polarization. However, the effects of mechanical force on circRNAs and the role of circRNAs in the mechanobiology of differentiation and remodeling in stretched periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) remain unclear. This article aims to explore the osteogenic function of mechanically sensitive circular RNA protein kinase D3 (circPRKD3) and elucidate its underlying mechanotransduction mechanism...

This study is aimed to evaluate the effect of partial cardiac denervation, which is achieved by cutting off the ligament of Marshall and resecting the fat pad along the Waterston groove, on the prevention of POAF after CABG. Patients planned for CABG at our center will be screened for eligibility for this study. Incarcerated medial soft tissue after posterolateral knee dislocations has been described, but limited information pertaining to the etiology and management of cutaneous injuries from incarceration exists. We present the case of a 64-year-old man, where reduction of a posterolateral knee dislocation resulted in incarceration of medial ligamentous structures and impending skin necrosis. The patient avoided full-thickness skin necrosis, which could have complicated treatment options. Careful consideration of the soft-tissue envelope of the knee for preventing additional skin injury in the perioperative period should be considered to potentially avert additional necrosis in patients with a 'pucker' sign after knee dislocations...

Cotyledonoid dissecting leiomyoma (CDL) is a rare uterine tumor with unique clinical and histological features. We present a case of a 46-year-old woman with a 3-month history of left-flank pain radiating to the back. The patient had a history of infertility and a previous miscarriage. Ultrasound revealed a solid tissue mass suggestive of a degenerated fibroid. Laparoscopy identified subserosal leiomyoma and leiomyoma in the broad ligament. Histologically, CDL is characterized by disorganized smooth muscle with hyaline degeneration and no evidence of malignancy...
