A 48-year-old woman was referred for a bone scan as an assessment of bone metastasis from breast cancer. Surprisingly, two hot spots of lung uptake were present in the left lung without any abnormality on CT slices. No history of pulmonary disease was observed. An optimized CT scan with fine slices performed the same day was strictly normal (without any micronodule). A lung ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy showed no significant perfusion defect. A follow-up bone scan performed eight months later was normal and without any lung uptake...

Introduction and importance: Condyloma are a common and easily diagnosticated condition that could affect the area around and inside the anus. But a nodular perianal lesion is not always a simple condyloma. Case presentation: We report a case of a 61-year-old patient with nodular perianal lesions mimicking condyloma that has revealed an amylosis and a multiple myeloma. Clinical discussion: The cutaneous manifestations of amyloidosis are diverse...

The spontaneous subcapsular hematoma of the liver is very rare. There are only a few reported cases in the literature. Most reported cases of liver hematoma often occur during pregnancy as part of the hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count syndrome. The other causes may be due to amylosis, rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma, adenoma, focal nodular hyperplasia, hemorrhagic cyst, or hemopathy. Idiopathic spontaneous subscapular hematoma is a rare and often fatal condition. We report a case of a 43-year-old woman having Steinert disease who died because of a fatal spontaneous liver hemorrhage occurring without any traumatism...

BACKGROUND: This review focuses on the main aspects of positive and differential diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) in different clinical situations encountered in daily practice. STATE OF THE ART: Authentic CTS can be discovered in situations, which alter the usual presentation or therapeutic management. This is the case for instance in pregnant women or in the elderly subject or with acute motor forms where CTS discloses a focal intratunnel disorder (neuroma, lipoma, arterial condition, bone disorder) or a general disease (hereditary neuropathy, amylosis)...

Primary amylosis is rarely located in bone, exceptionally in the spine. The radiographic presentation is polymorphous. Magnetic resonance imaging is currently the best imaging technique. Spinal amyloidosis can exceptionally lead to cord compression requiring rapid surgical release.

Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa is a genetic skin disease of which the recessive subtype also named Hallopeau-Siemens is the most severe. It is due to lack of expression of type VII collagen which is essential for dermal anchoring. Severe obstructive uropathies of the urethral and bladder area may occur during the first years of life, in relation to local bullous activity. As in acquired bullous diseases, glomerular complications may occur in the dystrophic form during the second and third decade. They consist mostly in AA amylosis or mesangial immunoglobuline A glomerulonephritis, in relation to chronic inflammation and repeated cutaneous infections...

BACKGROUND: Confluent and reticulate papillomatosis of Gougerot and Carteaud is a rare entity and a subject of controversy in terms of nosology. It has occasionally been regarded as a peculiar variant of acanthosis nigricans, pityriasis versicolor or amyloidosis. OBJECTIVES: To discuss confluent and reticulate papillomatosis and its diagnostic criteria as a distinct entity. METHODS: Retrospective study from 1994 to 2005 based on photographic files from 2 dermatology wards at the Saint Louis Hospital, Paris...

INTRODUCTION: Amyloid arthropathy occurs in 5-15% of patients with multiple myeloma. It is rarely inaugural. Some cases are reported in which the articular manifestations are present many months before the diagnosis of myeloma. We report two unusual cases where the amyloid arthropathy reveals the multiple myeloma. EXEGESIS: Case 1: A 54-year-old man take medical advice for a polyarthritis evolving for 6 months. He has no evidence of multiple myeloma except a hypercalcemia and a hypoalbuminemia...
