Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) is an evidence-based couple therapy based in attachment theory. Research has amassed over the past three decades pointing to the role of relationships in health and and well-being. Affective neuroscience suggests that secure relationships appear to foster adaptive stress co-regulation. The effectiveness of EFT has been demonstrated in couples facing high levels of stress, and has been shown to reduce depressive and post-traumatic stress symptoms. Furthermore, EFT has been shown to help couples regulate their neurophysiological stress response...

We investigated episodic future thinking (EFT) and future-based cognition and decision-making in patient SG, who developed a dense retrograde amnesia following hypoxia due to a cardiac arrest. Despite intact general cognitive and executive functioning, SG was unable to remember events from his entire lifetime. He had, however, relatively spared anterograde memory and general semantic knowledge. Voxel-based morphometry detected a reduction of gray matter in the thalamus, cerebellum and fusiform gyrus bilaterally, and, at a reduced threshold, in several regions of the autobiographical memory network, including the hippocampi...

Field independence (FI) has been found to correlate with a wide range of cognitive processes requiring cognitive restructuring. Cognitive restructuring, that is going beyond the information given by the setting, is pivotal in creating stable mental representations of the environment, the so-called "cognitive maps," and it affects visuo-spatial abilities underpinning environmental navigation. Here we evaluated whether FI, by fostering cognitive restructuring of environmental cues on the basis of an internal frame of reference, affects the learning and retrieval of a novel environment...

BACKGROUND: Epicardial fat tissue has unique endocrine and paracrine functions that affect the cardiac autonomic system. The head-up tilt test (HUTT) is a simple non-invasive measurement that assesses autonomic nervous system dysfunction. We investigated the association between epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and autonomic neural tone, such as vagal tone. METHODS: A total of 797 consecutive patients (mean age 46.5 years, male: 45.7%) who underwent HUTT and echocardiography between March 2006 and June 2015 were enrolled...

OBJECTIVE: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) consist of a number of chronic inflammatory diseases. Inflammatory process is known to be involved in all stages of atherosclerosis. Early atherosclerosis is reflected by increased levels of carotid artery intima media thickness (c-IMT) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP). Epicardial fat thickness (EFT) strongly influences both the formation and progression of atherosclerosis. Recent studies have demonstrated a relationship between c-IMT and hs-CRP levels and the risk of atherosclerosis in patients with IBD...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Epicardial fat (EF) is increased in obesity and has important interactions with atrial and ventricular myocardium. Most of the evidence in this scenario can be confused by the presence of comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia, which are very common in this population. The influence of EF on atrial remodeling and cardiac function demands further investigation on morbidly obese without these comorbidities. METHODS AND RESULTS: We prospectively recruited 20 metabolically healthy morbidly obese and 20 normo-weights controls...

BACKGROUND: Epicardial fat thickness (EFT) is associated with increased cardio metabolic risk. Recent studies have suggested that there is a strong relationship between diabetes and EFT. Although the relationship between EFT and coronary artery disease (CAD) is well known, the possible impact of diabetes on the relationship between EFT and extent and complexity of CAD was not fully investigated. AIM: We aimed to investigate the relationship between EFT and extent and complexity of CAD in patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) with and without diabetes...

Cognitive style including field dependence/independence (FDI) is an important factor affecting individual personalities. The present study aimed to clarify the relationship between cognitive styles and the characteristics of cognitive processing using event-related potentials. We used the Embedded-Figures Test to assess the cognitive styles [field dependence (FD), field independence (FI)] of the individuals, and individuals performed auditory and somatosensory Go/No-go paradigms. Participants were divided into two groups (FD and FI) on the basis of EFT scores...

The relation between episodic memory and episodic future thought (EFT) remains an active target of research. A growing literature suggests that similar cognitive processes and neural substrates tend to support these acts. However, direct comparisons of whole-brain activity reveal clear differences, with numerous regions more active when engaging in EFT than when remembering, and a smaller collection of regions displaying the opposite pattern of activity. Although various network labels have been applied to prior neuroimaging results, to date no formal resting-state functional connectivity analysis has been conducted...

In complex work domains and organizations, understanding schedule-ing dynamics can ensure objectives are reached and delays are mitigated. In the current paper, we examine the scheduling dynamics for NASA's Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1) activities. For this examination, we specifically modeled simultaneous change in percent complete and estimated duration for a given project as they were included in monthly reports over time. In short, we utilized latent change score mixture modeling to extract the attractor dynamics within the scheduling data...

Syntax score (SS) and Gensini score (GS) are used to determine the complexity and severity of coronary artery disease. Although there are some studies indicating the individual relationship of these scoring systems with the carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) and epicardial fat tissue (EFT), there was no previous study that compared the SS and GS in that respect. We aimed to assess the relationship of SS and GS with predictors of atherosclerosis. We enrolled 522 patients. There were positive correlations between GS and SS tertiles with cIMT and EFT...

We discuss the validity of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SM EFT) as the low-energy effective theory for the two-Higgs-doublet Model (2HDM). Using the up-to-date Higgs signal strength measurements at the LHC, one can obtain a likelihood function for the Wilson coefficients of dimension-6 operators in the EFT Lagrangian. Given the matching between the 2HDM and the EFT, the constraints on the Wilson coefficients can be translated into constraints on the parameters of the 2HDM Lagrangian. We discuss under which conditions such a procedure correctly reproduces the true limits on the 2HDM...

Here, we report that long-term stable and efficient organic solar cells (OSCs) can be obtained through the following strategies: i) combination of rapid-drying blade-coating deposition with an appropriate thermal annealing treatment to obtain an optimized morphology of the active layer; ii) insertion of interfacial layers to optimize the interfacial properties. The resulting devices based on poly[4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-b;4,5-b']dithiophene-2,6-diyl-alt-(4-(2-ethylhexyl)-3-fluorothieno[3,4-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate-2,6-diyl)] (PBDTTT-EFT):[6,6]-phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester (PC71 BM) blend as the active layer exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 9...
