We construct the exceptional sigma model: a two-dimensional sigma model coupled to a supergravity background in a manifestly (formally) E_{D(D)}-covariant manner. This formulation of the background is provided by exceptional field theory (EFT), which unites the metric and form fields of supergravity in E_{D(D)} multiplets before compactification. The realization of the symmetries of EFT on the world sheet uniquely fixes the Weyl-invariant Lagrangian and allows us to relate our action to the usual type-IIA fundamental string action and a form of the type-IIB (m, n) action...

BACKGROUND: Hyperthyroidism is associated with increased metabolic activity and thermogenesis. Irisin is a key molecule in thermogenesis and energy expenditure via adipose tissue browning. Epicardial fat was previously defined as brown-like fat. Thus, here we aimed to evaluate the association between serum irisin level and epicardial fat thickness (EFT) in patients with hyperthyroidism. METHODS: A total of 25 hyperthyroid patients and 24 age-, sex-, and BMI-matched healthy controls were enrolled...

Background: Epicardial adipose tissue is an emerging cardio metabolic risk factor. Although an association between epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and left ventricle (LV) hypertrophy in hypertensive patients is known, the relationship between abnormal LV geometric patterns and EFT has yet to be investigated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between EFT and abnormal LV geometric patterns in hypertensive patients. Methods: Measurements were obtained from 343 patients with untreated essential hypertension (mean age 51...

PURPOSE: Acromegaly is a rare disorder existed in the result of overproduction of growth hormone (GH). The disorder is associated with increased cardiovascular risk factors and metabolic abnormalities. Urotensin II (UII), a secreted vasoactive peptide hormone, belonging somatostatin superfamily, plays an essential role in atherosclerosis and glucose metabolism. The aim of this study was to ascertain whether circulating UII levels are altered in subjects with acromegaly, and to describe the relationship between UII and hormonal or cardiometabolic parameters...

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor (VEGFR) is essential for physiological functions of tissues and neovasculature. VEGFR signaling is associated with the progression of pathological angiogenesis in various types of malignancies, making it an attractive therapeutic target in cancer treatment. In the present work, we report the synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles and 1,2,4-triazolo[1, 5-a]pyrimidine derivatives via copper (I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction and screened for their anticancer activity against MCF7 cells...

Interfacial engineering plays an important role in determining the performance and stability of polymer solar cells (PSCs). In this study, we demonstrate thermally stable highly-efficient PSCs by incorporating solution-processed cathode interfacial layer (CIL), including 4,4'-(((methyl(4-sulphonatobutyl)ammonio) bis(propane-3,1-diyl)) bis(dimethyl-ammoniumdiyl)) bis-(butane-1-sulphonate) (MSAPBS) and polyethylenimine (PEI). For PSCs based on blends of poly [4,8-bis (5-(2-ethyl-hexyl) thiophen-2-yl) benzo [1,2-b;4,5-b'] dithiophene-2,6-diyl-alt-(4-(2-ethylhexyl)-3-fluorothieno[3,4-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate-2,6-diyl)] (PBDTTT-EFT) and [6,6]-phenyl C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM), the maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of inverted PSCs reaches 8...

In 2002, due to extensive histomorphologic, immunohistochemical, and cytogenetic similarities, the World Health Organization unified undifferentiated small round blue cell neoplasms of soft tissue and bone (previously segregated as Ewing sarcoma or Primitive Neuroectodermal tumor) into one category: Ewing family of tumors (EFT). Osseous EFT are more common, and while extra-osseous EFT can occur anywhere in the body, those of the pancreas are rare and likely to be seen in the second decade of life in the head of the pancreas...

Performance on the Embedded Figures Test (EFT) has been interpreted as a reflection of local/global perceptual style, weak central coherence and/or field independence, as well as a measure of intelligence and executive function. The variable ways in which EFT findings have been interpreted demonstrate that the construct validity of this measure is unclear. In order to address this lack of clarity, we investigated to what extent performance on a new Embedded Figures Test (L-EFT) correlated with measures of intelligence, executive functions and estimates of local/global perceptual styles...

AIM: Gestational hypertension (GHT) is a common disorder of pregnancy characterized by new onset hypertension without the presence of detectable proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation. Epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) are suggested as new predictors of subclinical atherosclerosis. Although the relationship between these parameters and essential hypertension has been demonstrated, this association in patients with GHT is still unknown. We aimed to investigate CIMT and EFT in patients with GHT...

BACKGROUND: Episodic thinking, whether past or future, uses similar neural machinery, and individuals with alcohol dependence have clear challenges with both. Moreover, alcohol-dependent individuals' narrowed temporal window likely gives rise to greater valuation of immediate rewards. We aimed to strengthen working memory (WM) in alcohol-dependent individuals and measure performance on near-transfer (novel WM) and far-transfer delay discounting (DD) tasks, including episodic future thinking (EFT) performance...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Epicardial fat has been associated with increased cardiovascular risk and the development of atherosclerosis. Transthoracic echocardiography provides a reliable measurement of epicardial fat thickness (EFT). The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between EFT and biochemical parameters of metabolic risk. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We assessed 211 patients who underwent echocardiography; EFT was measured by two cardiologists. In addition, patients' glycaemia, lipid profile and serum uric acid were measured...

Here we present the application of deep neural network (DNN) ensembles trained on transcriptomic data to identify the novel markers associated with the mammalian embryonic-fetal transition (EFT). Molecular markers of this process could provide important insights into regulatory mechanisms of normal development, epimorphic tissue regeneration and cancer. Subsequent analysis of the most significant genes behind the DNNs classifier on an independent dataset of adult-derived and human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived progenitor cell lines led to the identification of COX7A1 gene as a potential EFT marker...

Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an evidence-based treatment for depression and anxiety. The current study sought to elucidate the relationship between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety in a nonclinical population. The sample (N = 81) comprised participants at five 2-day EFT workshops. All groups used an EFT protocol called Borrowing Benefits, in which the group facilitator works with a single client while other participants self-apply EFT. Participants were assessed on 9 specific conditions as well as on the breadth (Positive Symptom Total [PST]) and depth (General Symptom Index [GSI]) of psychological distress...

Since its initial development, the embedded figures test (EFT) has been used extensively to measure local-global perceptual style. However, little is known about the perceptual factors that influence target detection. The current study aimed to investigate disembedding in children with and without ASD, aged 8-15 years, using the newly developed, stimulus-controlled L-EFT, M-EFT and D-EFT. Firstly, results revealed superior disembedding for children with ASD, irrespective of the type of target or embedding context, although the ASD group took more time in both the M-EFT and D-EFT...

An important objective in humanistic-experiential psychotherapies and particularly emotion-focused psychotherapy (EFT) is to map patterns of change. Effective mapping of the processes and pathways of change requires that in-session processes be linked to in-session resolutions, immediate post-session changes, intermediate outcome, final therapy outcome, and longer-term change. This is a challenging and long-term endeavour. Fine-grained descriptions of in-session processes that lead to resolution of specific interpersonal and intrapersonal issues linked with longer-term outcomes are the foundation of EFT, the process-experiential approach...
