BACKGROUND: Common bile duct pressure (CBDP) after surgical exploration has not been fully detailed. The objective was to describe the changes of CBDP after open surgical exploration in patients with choledocholithiasis, considering clinical scenarios in remote locations. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A before-after study was designed. Patients with choledocholithiasis who required an open cholecystectomy with exploration of bile ducts were included in the study. Open cholecystectomy was performed and perioperative T-tube CBDP was registered immediately after the procedure and weekly thereafter, with a 6 week follow-up...

OBJECTIVE: To determine the average value of the diameter of the common bile duct by age group in adult patients without bile duct pathology. METHOD: A cross-sectional, observational, descriptive and prospective study in adults without bile duct pathology who underwent abdominal ultrasound. The internal diameter of the common bile duct was measured after questioning. In the descriptive analysis, absolute frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation were used in the inferential Student's t test and Pearson's correlation...

INTRODUCTION: Choledochal cysts are rare bile duct dilatations, which have higher prevalence in Asian population. The aim of the study was to analyze clinical and surgical results about biliary cysts management. In addition, a comparative historical analysis was performed. METHODS: Patients who underwent surgery between January 1988 and December 2019 in a single tertiary level center were retrospectively included. Demographic and clinical patient data; cyst types; diagnostic methods and surgical technique were analyzed, as well as short and long-term follow-up complications...

BACKGROUND: Cholecystectomy is one of the most performed abdominal surgical procedures, with approximately 1.5 million procedures performed annually in the United States of america. Most of the biliary duct injuries during laparoscopic cholecystectomy are due to a wrong perception of the anatomy. Two thirds of postsurgical stenosis develop within two and three years after repairing and the other third in the following ten years. OBJECTIVE: To show the adequacy for postoperative endoscopic access in Roux-in-Y biliodigestive diversions...

INTRODUCTION: The choledochal cyst (also bile duct cyst) is a rare condition. It is important to know its clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment alternatives, which allow a resolution with low morbidity. OBJECTIVE: to report the clinical diagnosis together with the laparoscopic techniques for the mana gement of the bile duct cyst. CLINICAL CASES: Case 1: 4-year-old preschooler with history of recurrent abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasound showed a choledochal cyst...

The reported biliary morbidity rate for deceased donor full-size orthotopic liver transplantation is up to 30%. The technique used may be influenced by multiple factors, and in some situations, biliary reconstruction must be carried out through Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy. The aim of our study was to determine the results of the orthotopic liver transplantation according to the technique used in the biliary reconstruction. A retrospective study was performed with the first 1000 orthotopic liver transplants (951 patients) carried out consecutively (1996-2013) with follow-up until 2017...

Percutaneous drainage of the bile ducts is an established procedure for malignant obstructions, in which a histological diagnosis is often not obtained. We describe the biopsy technique of obstructive lesions through biliary drainage access, using a 7F endoscopic biopsy forceps, widely available; some are even reusable. This technique applies to lesions of the hepatic ducts, of the common hepatic duct and of all extension of the common bile duct. RESUMO A drenagem percutânea das vias biliares é um procedimento estabelecido para obstruções malignas, nos quais, muitas vezes, não se consegue um diagnóstico histológico...
