Ozone therapy acts in the body inducing controlled oxidative stress, thereby improving the antioxidant, immune and circulatory responses. However, very little is known about how this therapy affects oxidative stress indicators in dogs. We aimed to assess the clinical, hematological, biochemical and oxidative stress parameters of healthy dogs subjected to ozone therapy and oxygen therapy by rectal insufflation. Ten healthy dogs were allocated into three experimental groups in a cross-over design: control, without intervention; ozone, which received 100 µg of O3 /kg through rectal insufflation; and oxygen, which received an ozone-equivalent volume of medicinal O2 through rectal insufflation...

The bioluminescent Leishmania infantum BALB/c mouse model was used to evaluate the parasiticidal drug action kinetics of the reference drugs miltefosine, paromomycin, sodium stibogluconate, and liposomal amphotericin B. Infected mice were treated for 5 days starting from 7 days post-infection, and parasite burdens were monitored over time via bioluminescence imaging (BLI). Using nonlinear regression analyses of the BLI signal, the parasite elimination half-life ( t 1/2 ) in the liver, bone marrow, and whole body was determined and compared for the different treatment regimens...

We report the case of a 61-year-old woman who was referred to the Oral Surgery and Implantology Unit of the University Hospitals of Geneva to take care of edentulous sites after the dental avulsions of teeth 11 and 21 following traumatic shock due to endotracheal intubation under general anesthesia. The dental history revealed that the patient had a history of generalized chronic periodontitis that had been treated several years earlier. The treatment consisted, for the first time to our knowledge, of the immediate insertion of implants at sites 11 and 21 with simultaneous bone augmentation in a single surgical procedure and immediate restorations...

Size exclusion chromatography with total organic carbon detection (HPSEC-TOC) is a widely employed technique for characterizing aquatic natural organic matter (NOM) into high, medium, and low molecular weight fractions. This study validates the suitability of HPSEC-TOC for a simplified yet efficient routine analysis of freshwater and its application within drinking water treatment plants. The investigation highlights key procedural considerations for optimal results and shows the importance of sample preservation by refrigeration with a maximum storage duration of two weeks...

Cardiovascular disease has become a common ailment that endangers human health, having garnered widespread attention due to its high prevalence, recurrence rate, and sudden death risk. Ginseng possesses functions such as invigorating vital energy, enhancing vein recovery, promoting body fluid and blood nourishment, calming the nerves, and improving cognitive function. It is widely utilized in the treatment of various heart conditions, including palpitations, chest pain, heart failure, and other ailments. Although numerous research reports have investigated the cardiovascular activity of single ginsenoside, there remains a lack of systematic research on the specific components group that predominantly contribute to cardiovascular efficacy in ginseng medicinal materials...

Here, 0.3 wt.%Zr was introduced in an Al-4 wt.%Cu-0.5 wt.%Mn-0.1 wt.%Fe alloy to investigate its influence on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy. The microstructures of both as-cast and T6-treated Al-Cu-Mn-Fe (ACMF) and Al-Cu-Mn-Fe-Zr (ACMFZ) alloys were analyzed. The intermetallic compounds formed through the casting procedure include Al2 Cu and Al7 Cu2 Fe, and the Al2 Cu phase dissolves into the matrix and re-precipitates as θ' phase during the T6 process. The introduction of Zr results in the precipitation of L12 -Al3 Zr nanometric precipitates after T6, while the θ' precipitates in ACMFZ alloy are much finer than those in ACMF alloy...

The incidence of gastric cancer (GC) is expected to increase to 1.77 million cases by 2040. To improve treatment outcomes, GC patients are increasingly treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) prior to curative-intent resection. Although NAC enhances locoregional control and comprehensive patient care, survival rates remain poor, and further investigations should establish outcomes assessment of current clinical pathways. Individually assessed parameters have served as benchmarks for treatment quality in the past decades...

A drug molecule is a substance that changes an organism's mental or physical state. Every approved drug has an indication, which refers to the therapeutic use of that drug for treating a particular medical condition. While the Large Language Model (LLM), a generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique, has recently demonstrated effectiveness in translating between molecules and their textual descriptions, there remains a gap in research regarding their application in facilitating the translation between drug molecules and indications (which describes the disease, condition or symptoms for which the drug is used), or vice versa...

INTRODUCTION: The differential diagnosis of parathyroid carcinoma (PC)/parathyroid adenoma (PA) in parathyroid tumors is critical for their management and prognosis. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) identification in the peripheral blood of parathyroid tumors remains unknown. In this study, we proposed to investigate the differences of CTCs in PC/PA and the relationship with clinicopathologic features to assess its relevance to PC and value in identifying PC/PA. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Peripheral blood was collected from 27 patients with PC and 37 patients with PA treated in our hospital, and the number of chromosome 8 aberrant CTCs was detected by negative magnetic bead sorting fluorescence in situ hybridization (NE-FISH)...

This systematic review and meta-analysis investigates the predictive and prognostic role of PD-L1 expression in treating head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Recognizing the importance of PD-L1 in patient response to treatment, the main objective was to assess its impact on overall survival and progression-free survival in HNSCC patients. A thorough search of databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from 2010 to 2022, along with relevant articles and references, yielded 120 studies. Of these, 7 met the criteria focusing on HNSCC patients, PD-L1 expression evaluation, and treatment with PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitors...
