In the present study, we have explored several prospects for the further development of screened-exchange density functional theory (SX-DFT) procedures. Using the performance of HSE06 as our measure, we find that the use of alternative correlation functionals (as oppose to PBEc in HSE06) also yields adequate results for a diverse set of thermochemical properties. We have further examined the performance of new SX-DFT procedures (termed HSEB-type methods) that comprise the HSEx exchange and a (near-optimal) reparametrized B97c (cOS,0  = cSS,0  = 1, cOS,1  = -1...

Extragonadal teratoma originating from the retroperitoneum represents less than 5% of all teratomas and accounts for less than 10% of all pediatric retroperitoneal neoplasms. To date, there has been no report of teratoma managed with LT. This study reports an infant aged 3 months with retroperitoneal immature teratoma involving the hepatic hilum, refractory to chemotherapy and treated with LT. The patient was referred to our hospital for management of a growing abdominal mass. Histopathology of a fine needle biopsy of the lesion suggested the possibility of a hepatoblastoma with teratoid features...

The present study aimed to investigate whether magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate protects against renal ischemia‑reperfusion injury (RIRI), and to verify the underlying mechanisms. An RIRI rat model was induced by removing the right kidney, and exposing and clamping the left kidney. RIRI model rats were administered 30 mg/kg magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate for 3 days. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine levels in the blood of RIRI model rat were examined, compared with sham‑operated controls. Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate suppressed the activities of tumor necrosis factor‑α, interleukin (IL)‑1β, IL‑6, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and caspase‑3 in RIRI model rats...

OBJECTIVE: The NLRP3 inflammasome plays an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammation in diabetic nephropathy (DN). Pioglitazone (PIO) has been found to exert an anti-inflammatory effect in patients with diabetes mellitus, but it is still unclear whether PIO exhibits a similar effect in DN. We aimed to explore the effect and underlying mechanism of PIO on DN, as well as investigate if NLRP3 is a pharmacologic target of PIO. METHODS: We divided 48 apolipoprotein E (apoE) (-/-) mice into 4 groups: apoE (-/-), apoE (-/-) with PIO, diabetic apoE (-/-), and diabetic apoE (-/-) with PIO...

There are only a few reports of successful use of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTORI) as primary immunosuppression in pediatric heart transplantation. Compared to calcineurin inhibitors, mTORI have less side effects, especially nephrotoxicity, infections and malignancies. A retrospective study was conducted at our institution of all 170 heart transplants from 1995-2015. Nineteen patients were switched from tacrolimus(n=15) or cyclosporin(n=4) to everolimus(n=4) or sirolimus(n=15) due to nephrotoxicity(n=5), malignancy(n=8), EBV viremia/reactive plasmacytic changes(n=5) and immune hemolytic anemia(n=1)...

BACKGROUND: Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is the main reason of acute renal failure. However, inflammatory response and cell apoptosis are important mechanisms implicated in I/R injury. Recent studies indicated that nuclear factor kappa B (NF-кB) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) are both involved in these mechanisms. Sevoflurane reduces NF-кB and TNF-α expression in rats' heart and decreases their renal I/R injury. However, few studies are available regarding the effect of sevoflurane on kidney of diabetic rats...

All livestock transport within the European Union must comply with the EC Regulation 1÷2005. For sheep, this law prescribes a maximum journey of 29 hours after which animals must rest in control posts (CP) for 24 hours before further transportation. However, there is no scientific evidence de ning the effects of di erent stop duration on sheep recovery during long journeys. The aim of this study was to assess if a shorter stop could be provided without impairing ewes' welfare. Ninety-six adult ewes were divided into 4 homogenous groups...
