BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the rapid development of vaccines to combat the virus. Several COVID-19 vaccines have proven effective in preventing infection, hospitalization, and death. Vaccination has been especially recommended for vulnerable populations, such as individuals with psychiatric illnesses who face increased risks due to comorbidities and socioeconomic factors. This rapid review identifies and analyzes the effects of COVID-19 vaccines among individuals taking clozapine...

Breast cancer is the most prevalent malignant tumor affecting women and represents the leading cause of female cancer-related mortality worldwide. Although distant organ metastasis accounts for the majority of breast cancer-related deaths, reports on bladder metastasis are limited in the existing literature. The present study describes the case of a patient with bladder metastasis originating from breast cancer. In addition, the present study also provides a review of 54 cases of similar disease that have been documented in the currently available literature...

Nobuo Okui
Midurethral sling (MUS) surgery, using tension-free vaginal tape and transobturator tape, has been widely adopted for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). However, postoperative complications, including persistent urinary incontinence, mesh exposure, and pain, have become problematic, and surgical treatments for these complications face challenges, such as invasiveness, treatment-resistant cases, and recurrence. This review provides an overview of the current evidence regarding these complications and the potential of vaginal non-ablative erbium (YAG) laser (VEL) treatment as a minimally invasive option with low risk of complications...

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis. OBJECTIVES: The current study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of Onabotulinum toxin A (OBTX-A) treatment for neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. SETTING: Iran. METHODS: All relevant articles of clinical trials and cohort studies indexed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases up to September 6, 2022, that addressed OBTX-A treatment for NDO following SCI were included...

The objective is to determine if the timing of midurethral sling (MUS) placement has an impact on the recurrence rate of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients that underwent robot sacrocolpopexy (RSC) with MUS placement at a large community hospital. Our data demonstrated that there was no significant difference in SUI recurrence when the MUS was placed before or after the RSC (15% vs. 11%, P = 0.41, respectively). We concluded that physician preference may dictate surgical approach to sequence of retropubic MUS placement at the time of RSC...

BACKGROUND: Anticholinergic burden is associated with adverse events in the older adults. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding its effect on urinary independence in stroke patients. AIM: This study examined the association between increased anticholinergic burden during hospitalization and urinary independence in post-stroke patients undergoing rehabilitation. METHOD: This observational cross-sectional study included stroke patients admitted to a post-acute rehabilitation hospital between 2020 and 2022 who were not independently urinating...

OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the relationship between psychological distress, namely anxiety and depression, with urinary continence and recovery of erectile function in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data from 33 consecutive patients who underwent RP in a single tertiary-referral academy between 01/2018 to 01/2019. We used the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-15), the Sexual Complaints Screener for Men (SCS-M), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), validated questionnaires for the assessment of sexual function, anxiety, and depression experiences, respectively...

BACKGROUND: Overactive bladder (OAB) affects one in six adults in Europe and the United States and impairs the quality of life of millions of individuals worldwide. When conservative management fails, third-line treatments including tibial neuromodulation (TNM) is often pursued. TNM has traditionally been accomplished percutaneously in clinic. OBJECTIVE: A minimally invasive implantable device activated by a battery-operated external wearable unit has been developed for the treatment of urgency urinary incontinence (UUI), mitigating the burden of frequent clinic visits and more invasive therapies that are currently commercially available...

PURPOSE: An abnormal lower urinary tract poses significant challenges for transplant surgeons. Besides the ureteral anastomosis to an ileal conduit, there are diverse complex reconstructive solutions. Due to its rarity, standardization and teaching of complex urinary diversion is extremely difficult. METHODS: The indications and outcomes of complex urinary diversions after kidney transplantation (KT) were retrospectively investigated at eight urologic transplant centers including a current follow-up...

OBJECTIVES: To assess the intra/inter-observer reliability of cystoscopic sphincter evaluation (CSE) in men undergoing sling surgery for urinary incontinence and if possible to evaluate its correlation with the final clinical decision. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Two expert urologists prospectively filmed and recorded, incontinent patient's cystoscopies according to a standard scenario. Anonymised recordings where randomly offered to the same observer twice. The observers (medical students, urology residents and full urologist with 0-5, 5-10, >10 years of practice, respectively) were asked to assess and score the recordings without knowing any of the patients' characteristics...
