Genital warts are the most frequent sexually transmitted disease. Their clinical diagnosis is not always easy, and invasive skin biopsies for histological examination should be performed in these cases. The aim of the study was to investigate the use of non-invasive imaging techniques for the diagnosis of genital warts and their imitators. We retrospectively evaluated dermoscopy, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), and line-filed confocal microscopy (LC-OCT) images of nine patients with 19 warts of the mucous membranes and five patients with lesions that clinically mimic genital warts, including 12 molluscum contagiosum, 1 Fordyce's spot and one case of multiple acquired lymphangiomas...

BACKGROUND: Melanoma is one of the deadliest skin cancers that originate from melanocytes due to sun exposure, causing mutations. Early detection boosts the cure rate to 90%, but misclassification drops survival to 15-20%. Clinical variations challenge dermatologists in distinguishing benign nevi and melanomas. Current diagnostic methods, including visual analysis and dermoscopy, have limitations, emphasizing the need for Artificial Intelligence understanding in dermatology. OBJECTIVES: In this paper, we aim to explore dermoscopic structures for the classification of melanoma lesions...

INTRODUCTION: Multicentric Castleman's disease (MCD) with cutaneous involvement has rarely been discussed in dermatologic literature, with few reports. Cutaneous lesions in MCD may induce deep scars, causing a significant impact in the daily life of the patients. The treatment of Castleman's disease (CD) is usually a challenge, especially in case of cutaneous involvement. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 35-year-old Caucasian man with a 3-year-old history of MCD with cutaneous involvement that we treated with a combined therapy characterized by siltuximab and 1,927 nm fractional laser...

MySkinSelfie was a mobile phone application for skin self-monitoring enabling secure sharing of patient-captured images with healthcare providers. This retrospective study assessed MySkinSelfie's role in remote skin cancer assessment at two centres for urgent (melanoma & squamous cell carcinoma) and non-urgent skin cancer referrals, investigating the feasibility of using patient-taken images without dermoscopy for remote diagnosis. Total number of lesions utilising MySkinSelfie was 814 with mean age of 63...

AIM OF THE STUDY: The global prevalence of scabies is estimated to be up to 200 million cases annually, with young children particularly affected. In Europe, most cases are thought to originate in migrant populations. Scabies management is challenging in children. To identify knowledge gaps and research needs, we aimed to descriptively evaluate the management of children with scabies by different Swiss healthcare providers. METHODS: An invitation for an anonymous online survey (36 questions) was sent to members of Swiss societies of dermatologists, general practitioners, paediatricians, paediatric dermatologists, paediatric infectious diseases specialists, and tropical medicine specialists, inviting clinicians to participate from 25th May to 8th August 2020...

A 23-year-old man of South Asian descent, Fitzpatrick type 4-5 skin, usually fit and well, presented with a 6-month history of a darkly-pigmented papular lesion growing within a pre-existing warty plaque on the left parietal scalp, present since birth. The base plaque measured 30 × 10 mm, whilst the new papule measured approximately 3 × 3 mm. These were asymptomatic and there was no preceding trauma to the area. Examination revealed a pearlescent darkly pigmented papule, growing within a warty pink-yellow hairless plaque...

Granulosis rubra nasi (GRN) is a rare genodermatosis involving the eccrine glands with an unknown aetiology. It is clinically characterized by localized hyperhidrosis, erythema, papules, pustules, and vesicles over central region of face and usually manifests during early childhood. GRN is asymptomatic, spontaneously resolves during puberty, and treatment options have inconsistent results. We hereby present a case of GRN in 38 years female with sites and dermoscopy findings not defined so far.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Although excision of melanocytic nevi with high-grade dysplasia is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), clinical studies investigating the approach based on the grading dysplasia of melanocytic lesions with peripheral globules (PGs) are lacking. We investigated the grades of dysplasia and their distinguishable dermoscopic and clinical features to provide accurate data for managing these lesions. METHODS: We retrospectively classified histologically confirmed melanocytic lesions with PGs according to the 2018 WHO Classification of Skin Tumours criteria in a university hospital in Turkey...

BACKGROUND: Differential diagnosis of amelanotic/hypomelanotic melanoma among solitary flat pink lesions is challenging, due to limited clinical and dermoscopic clues. Dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy assessments improve diagnostic accuracy, but their combined capacity among solitary flat pink lesions is yet to be defined. OBJECTIVES: To determine (i) whether diagnostic accuracy is improved with combined dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy, (ii) a model to estimate probability of flat amelanotic/hypomelanotic melanoma among solitary flat pink lesions...

There are various subtypes, of which follicular psoriasis (FP) is an underreported entity, presenting as scaly follicular papules. Only a few cases have been reported, with limited dermoscopy findings having been described. This report aims to review the literature and emphasize the role of dermoscopy in the diagnosis of this rare variant. Zoon's balanitis or balanitis plasmacellularis circumscripta is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the genital mucosa that can affect both males and females (Zoon's vulvitis). It is not a sexually transmitted disease but can still cause anxiety to the patients because of its chronic nature. Hence, proper diagnosis and early management are necessary. It is a clinical mimicker of other commoner genital dermatoses and is mostly a diagnosis of exclusion when other diseases have been ruled out. It is characterised by a well-demarcated shiny erythematous patch or plaque over the genital mucosa...

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent disease in worldwide, local application or oral are often used to treat AGA, however, effective treatments for AGA are currently limited. In this work, we observed the promoting the initial anagen phase effect of pilose antler extract (PAE) on hair regeneration in AGA mice. We found that PAE accelerated hair growth and increased the degree of skin blackness by non-invasive in vivo methods including camera, optical coherence tomography and dermoscopy. Meanwhile, HE staining of sagittal and coronal skin sections revealed that PAE augmented the quantity and length of hair follicles, while also enhancing skin thickness and hair papilla diameter...

When performing the dermoscopy of squamous cell carcinoma and its precursors we differentiate among keratin-related, vascular, and pigment-related criteria. Non-pigmented actinic keratoses are characterized by the "strawberry pattern". Pigmented actinic keratosis shows a significant dermatoscopic overlap with lentigo maligna, but the presence of pigmented scales, erythema, and prominent follicles favors its diagnosis. Bowen's disease is characterized by clustered glomerular vessels, white-yellowish scales, and brown or grey dots arranged in lines in its pigmented variant...
