INTRODUCTION: Prostatic abscess is a rare but relatively serious infectious disease; its association with spontaneous rupture is extremely unusual. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present a case of peritonitis secondary to a rupture of prostatic abscess in a 87-year-old man. The diagnosis was made on computed tomography. Emergency laparotomy, transrectal ultrasonography guided aspiration of the residual abscess and antibiotics permitted a full recovery. DISCUSSION: Delay in diagnosis of prostatic abscess can have grave sequelae, including spontaneous rupture into the urethra, perineum, bladder or rectum and the development of septic shock...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, as a chronic systemic metabolic disease, is widely spread in the population of middle- aged men. Previously it has been proven the link between the presence of type 2 diabetes and the development of lower urinary tract symptoms in men. At the same time, middle-aged men are characterized by the appearance and progression of benign prostatic hyperplasia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We performed a study of middle-aged men with type 2 diabetes to determine the interrelation of micturition disorders with deficiency of serum testosterone, in respect that the pathophysiology of prostatic hyperplasia is regarded as dysmetabolic dyshormonal state...

We present a large hydatid cyst located midline and posterior to prostatic gland and seminal vesicles in an asymptomatic patient. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a large retrovesical mass and the transrectal ultrasonography idetified a degenerated hydatid cyst with "ball of wool'' appearance. Although extremely rare, hydatid disease should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of pelvic particularly retrovesical midline masses.

We describe our experience in prostate biopsy using a new standardized cognitive fusion techniques, that we call "cognitive zonal fusion biopsy". This new technique is based on two operative options: the first based on target biopsies, the Cognitive Target Biopsy (CTB) if the same target was detected with transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and multiparametric magnetic resonance (mpMRI); the second based on saturation biopsies, the Zonal Saturation Biopsy (ZSB) on anatomical zone/s containing the region of interest if the same target was not evident with TRUS and MRI...

A noninvasive method for visualizing lumbosacral nerves would be helpful for horses with suspected lumbosacral plexopathy or injury. The aim of this prospective descriptive pilot study was to characterize the ultrasonographic appearance of the lumbosacral nerves in a sample of healthy horses, and expand on the technique for image acquisition. Horses were recruited for inclusion if they were determined to be healthy and sound based on clinical and lameness evaluation. Transrectal ultrasound images of the lumbosacral nerves (L6, S1, and S2) were obtained for both sides...
