To map the distribution of the sites most affected by endometriosis in patients with unilateral ovarian endometriomas.A descriptive case series of 84 patients with unilateral endometriomas undergoing laparoscopy for the treatment of endometriosis. To evaluate the distribution of the sites of endometriosis lesions, the peritoneal compartments were divided into 5 zones: zone 1/the anterior compartment, including the anterior uterine serosa, vesicouterine fold, round ligament, and bladder; zone 2/the lateral compartment, including the left and right ovary, ovarian fossa, tubes, mesosalpinx, uterosacral ligaments, parametrium, and the ureter; zone 3/the posterior compartment, including posterior uterine serosa, the pouch of Douglas, posterior vaginal fornix, and bowel; zone 4 consisting of the abdominal wall; and zone 5 consisting of the diaphragm...

Endometriosis is a painful inflammatory disorder affecting ~10% of women of reproductive age. Although chronic pelvic pain (CPP) remains the main symptom of endometriosis patients, adequate treatments for CPP are lacking. Animal models that recapitulate the features and symptoms experienced by women with endometriosis are essential for investigating the etiology of endometriosis, as well as developing new treatments. In this study, we used an autologous mouse model of endometriosis to examine a combination of disease features and symptoms including: a 10 week time course of endometriotic lesion development; the chronic inflammatory environment and development of neuroangiogenesis within lesions; sensory hypersensitivity and altered pain responses to vaginal, colon, bladder, and skin stimulation in conscious animals; and spontaneous animal behavior...

Malacoplakia is an inflammatory lesion which can affect any organ in the body but predominantly affects the genitourinary system and mainly the bladder. Malacoplakia of the bladder has variable presentations and is associated with urinary infection or immunosuppression. Mullerianosis of the bladder is a rare lesion that consists of two out of the three tissues, endometriosis, endocervicosis, or endosalpingiosis. It is usually associated with a previous cesarean section or pelvic surgery. The diagnosis is confirmed on histopathological examination...

Women referred for a diagnostic ultrasound due to suspicion of endometriosis completed a Rome III and Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) questionnaire for clinical, GI symptoms, before undergoing TVUS. Endometriosis was diagnosed in the presence of endometriomas and/or deeply infiltrative endometriotic (DIE) lesions...

Relaxin (RLX)-2, produced by the corpus luteum and placenta, is known to be potentially effective in fibrotic diseases of the heart, lungs, kidneys, and bladder; however, its effectiveness in endometriosis has not yet been investigated. In the present study, we conducted a comprehensive study on the effect of RLX-2 on endometriosis. We checked the expressions of LGR-7, a primary receptor of RLX-2, in endometriomas using immunohistochemistry. Endometriotic stromal cells (ESCs) purified from surgical specimens were used in in vitro experiments...

Endometriosis is a chronic and debilitating condition affecting ∼10% of women. Endometriosis is characterized by infertility and chronic pelvic pain, yet treatment options remain limited. In many respects this is related to an underlying lack of knowledge of the etiology and mechanisms contributing to endometriosis-induced pain. Whilst many studies focus on retrograde menstruation, and the formation and development of lesions in the pathogenesis of endometriosis, the mechanisms underlying the associated pain remain poorly described...

Endometriosis is the ectopic presence of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus. Bladder involvement of these lesions is not uncommon and has been reported and studied extensively. Mullerianosis is a term that describes the ectopic presence of tissues from the endocervix and endosalpinx in extrauterine sites. Only a few cases of Mullerianosis involving the urinary tract system have been reported in literature. We report a case of a 32-year-old lady with bladder mass and periodic hematuria and dysuria. She underwent TURBT 1 and on histopathology was found to have bladder Mullerianosis...

INTRODUCTION: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) and endometriosis are coexistent diagnoses in 48%-65% of women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP), suggesting that dual screening may be warranted. To further investigate the clinical relationship and risk factors between these two conditions, we performed a retrospective review of our large IC/BPS patient data registry. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated IC/BPS patients who were prospectively enrolled into our registry who completed validated questionnaires and underwent therapeutic hydrodistension, during which anesthetic bladder capacity (BC) and Hunner's lesion (HL) status were recorded...

Venous malformation (VM) of bladder is uncommon. We report the case of a VM involving bladder that was initially misdiagnosed as endometriosis based on symptomatology, histology and imaging. After failure of hormonal agent and increasing symptoms, a laparoscopic partial cystectomy was performed with a rapid improvement. Pathology diagnosis confirmed a VM. The 6-month cystoscopy showed the persistence of a vascularized lesion, reflecting an uncomplete resection. We decided to closely follow the patient and after 24 months, the lesion was stable and our patient remained asymptomatic...

Groin lesions can be classified as neoplastic or non-neoplastic. Neoplastic lesions include lipoma, epidermoid cyst, angiomyofibroblastoma-like tumor, liposarcoma, and synovial sarcoma, as well as metastases from lymphoma, neuroendocrine carcinoma, and carcinomas of the lung, breast, urinary bladder, ovary, vulva, and colon. Non-neoplastic lesions include hernias, round ligament varices, endometriosis, Kimura disease, Castleman disease, hematoma, and inflammation. Because the clinical implications and therapeutic strategies for groin lesions vary depending on the cause, the ability to noninvasively differentiate among etiologies is very important...
