INTRODUCTION: Hemifacial spasm represents a segmental myoclonus of muscles innervated by the facial nerve, which is usually and successfully treated with botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin (BTX) acts as acetylcholine release inhibitor at presynaptic cholinergic junctions and therefore is considered contraindicated (or administrable with caution) in patients with neuromuscular disorders like myasthenia gravis (MG). Moreover, to date the association of hemifacial spasm and ocular MG is extremely rare and only few cases have been described...

Erector Spina plane (ESP) block; It is a new and simple interfacial area block applied with ultrasonography. ESP is gaining popularity in abdominal and thorax surgery due to its adequate postoperative analgesia, easy administration, and low complication rate. In this case, the postoperative analgesic efficacy of bilateral ESP block performed under the guidance of ultrasonography in a myasthenic patient undergoing thymectomy surgery presented. ESB may be a good option in myasthenic patients in terms of reducing opioid need after thymectomy surgery and preventing possible postoperative complications...

PURPOSE: The effects of spinal stabilization exercises (SSE) on fatigue, muscle strength, respiratory functions, functional capacity, and quality of life (QoL) in myasthenia gravis (MG) patients were investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study which was designed a single-blinded, randomized crossover trial were included mild to moderate 10 MG patients, aged between 18 and 65. SSE and home program were applied to the patients for six weeks, four weeks between each exercise program...

This review analyzes publications that present data on sleep disorders in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG). The analysis is based on domestic and foreign publications that are freely available over the past 30 years. Sleep disorders, the most significant of which are sleep-related respiratory disorders, are one of the factors that cause quality of life decreasing and mortality in patients with neuromuscular diseases. The issues of prevalence of breathing disorders during sleep, relationship of these disorders with clinical and immunological characteristics of disease, demographic indicators are studied...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a well-known disease in adults, but the prevalence in children population is low. One treatment option is thymectomy. Transsternal procedure have been the primary approach, but recent trends lean toward minimally invasive technique with triportal and, recently, uniportal thoracoscopic method. This is related to the suggested less blood loss and hospital length of stay. CASE PRESENTATION: Hereby we report a case of a 4-year-old boy suffering from Juvenile Myasthenia Gravis (JMG) with thymic hyperplasia who underwent extended thymectomy via subxiphoid uniportal Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) in our hospital...

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare, neutrophilic dermatosis which is characterized by painful, necrotic ulcer with violaceous border that heals with cribriform scar. Although the etiopathogenesis of PG is not known exactly, it can be triggered by many factors such as genetics, autoimmune, pathergy phenomenon, drugs, and paraneoplastic. It is frequently associated with autoimmune pathogenesis such as inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatologic disease. It can also be associated with hematological or solid organ malignancies, and then, it is called paraneoplastic PG...

Myasthenic crisis is a life-threatening condition commonly associated with respiratory failure and may present in unusual ways. However, there is paucity in the literature about the cardiac manifestations of myasthenia gravis. We present a case of a 61-year-old male who presented to the emergency room with upper respiratory infection symptoms who soon thereafter suffered sudden cardiac arrest. He was found to have shortened PR interval pre and post arrest onelectrocardiogram (EKG). Only past medical history, discovered post cardiac arrest, was myastenia gravis...

Myastenia-Inflammatory Myopathy (MG-IM) association has been described in less than 50 cases, as isolated reports or in few case series. In most cases, MG and IM onset occur simultaneously even if the overlapping clinical manifestations could lead to delay the diagnosis in the early stage of disease. In these cases, thymic pathology is present in more than 50% of cases. Pathological findings can be consistent of polymyositis (63%), dermatomyositis (25%) or granulomatosis (12%). Accurate clinical manifestations and severity of IM in MG, including muscle specific antibodies (MSA) and muscle MRI, have not been systematically investigated and focal or mild subclinical myositis have not been reported...

OBJECTIVES: Thymomas are rare neoplasms with a low recurrence rate, which are preferably surgically treated. Iterative thymoma surgery has not been well investigated yet. Study aim is to analyse prognostic factors after iterative recurrence treatment. METHODS: Clinical, pathological and surgical findings of 155 patients, treated for thymoma recurrence in three high-volume centres from 01/01/1990 to 1/07/2017, were retrospectively reviewed. Recurrence patterns/treatment types (surgery or chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combined) were correlated to overall (OS) and disease free survival (DFS)...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the treatment modalities of total ureteral avulsion and to clarify the risk factors of this serious complication. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed the data of 3 patients with complete ureteral avulsion during ureteroscopy. Of the three patients, two had distal ureteral complete avulsion, and one total ureteral avulsion on both ends. Ureteroneocystostomy (UNC) was immediately performed after distal ureteral avulsion cases. Ileal ureter substition was performed on the same session after the total ureteral avulsion in both ends...

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease caused by the development of antibodies against the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. There is hypersensitivity against non-depolarizing muscle relaxants in these patients. Sugammadex eliminates the effects of steroid non-depolarizing muscle relaxants, such as rocuronium and vecuronium, by selectively encapsulating their molecules. In this case report, we present a case of recurarization and respiratory failure after the use of sugammadex and rocuronium in a patient with preoperatively undiagnosed myasthenia gravis...

In addition to the sonochemical method, two conventional methods present in literature were carried out to perform a comparative study. Various analysis methods including Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy-Dispersive Analysis of X-Rays (EDAX), and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) have been applied for the characterization of nHA and its nanocomposite with marine-derived collagen isolated from Rhizostoma pulmo jellyfish...

The association of dermatomyositis with myasthenia gravis (MG) is uncommon, having been reported so far in only 26 cases. We report the case of a 69 year-old man diagnosed with MG two years ago and currently treated with piridostigmyne. The patient developed acute proximal weakness, shoulder pain and elevated creatine-kinase (CK). He also developed generalized facial erythema and Gottron's papules. Laboratory tests showed positive antinuclear and anti-Mi2 antibodies. Further analysis confirmed CK levels above 1000 U/l...

BACKGROUND: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery thymectomy has been used in the treatment of Myastenia Gravis and thymomas (coexisting or not). In natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery, new approaches to the thorax are emerging as alternatives to the classic transthoracic endoscopic surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility and reliability of hybrid endoscopic thymectomy (HET) using a combined transthoracic and transesophageal approach. METHODS: Twelve consecutive in vivo experiments were undertaken in the porcine model (4 acute and 8 survival)...
