We aimed to study the potential of epigallocatechin-3-gallate/tyrosol-loaded chitosan/lecithin nanoparticles (EGCG/tyrosol-loaded C/L NPs) in streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) mice. The EGCG/tyrosol-loaded C/L NPs were created using the self-assembly method. Dynamic light scattering, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were utilized to characterize the nanoparticle. Furthermore, in streptozotocin-induced T2DM mice, treatment with EGCG/tyrosol-loaded C/L NPs on fasting blood sugar levels, the expression of PCK1 and G6Pase, and IL-1β in the liver, liver glutathione content, nanoparticle toxicity on liver cells, and liver reactive oxygen species were measured...

BACKGROUND: Over 34 million Americans have diabetes, and nutrition therapy is essential in self-management. AIMS: The primary aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of meals designed for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) through a meal delivery program. The primary outcome was a 3-month change in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c ). Secondary outcomes included a 3-month change in weight, blood pressure, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and triglycerides...

BACKGROUND: Studies have compared diabetes management quality indicators, focusing on physiological markers such as hemoglobin A1c, between cancer survivors with diabetes and general diabetes patients. However, research comparing differences in diabetes self-management behaviors and the factors influencing them between these groups is lacking. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to compare self-management behaviors, guided by the information-motivation-behavior model, between cancer survivors with diabetes and general diabetes patients...

People with diabetes are encouraged to receive diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) appropriately. However, in Japan, the implementation rates of DSMES are not known. DSMES implementation rates were calculated using the National Database of claims data, which included nearly all insurance-covered medical procedures. The study enrolled participants who received regular antidiabetic medications between April 2017 and March 2018. The implementation rates of DSMES-related care were calculated by characteristics, visiting medical facilities and prefectures...

Objective To date, there are no widely implemented machine learning (ML) models that predict progression from prediabetes to diabetes. Addressing this knowledge gap would aid in identifying at-risk patients within this heterogeneous population who may benefit from targeted treatment and management in order to preserve glucose metabolism and prevent adverse outcomes. The objective of this study was to utilize readily available laboratory data to train and test the performance of ML-based predictive risk models for progression from prediabetes to diabetes...

BACKGROUND: Differences in the prevalence of four diabetes subgroups have been reported in Mexico compared to other populations, but factors that may contribute to these differences are poorly understood. Here, we estimate the prevalence of diabetes subgroups in Mexico and evaluate their correlates with indicators of social disadvantage using data from national representative surveys. METHODS: We analyzed serial, cross-sectional Mexican National Health and Nutrition Surveys spanning 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022, including 23,354 adults (>20 years)...

INTRODUCTION: Patients with congenital hyperinsulinism (HI) require constant glucose monitoring to detect and treat recurrent and severe hypoglycemia. Historically, this has been achieved with intermittent self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG), but patients are increasingly using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Given the rapidity of CGM device development, and increasing calls for CGM use from HI families, it is vital that new devices are evaluated early. METHODS: We provided two months of supplies for the new Dexcom G7 CGM device to 10 patients with HI who had recently finished using the Dexcom G6...

Lifestyle programs that reduce health risks and support weight loss (WL) in older adults face adherence and attendance challenges due to reduced energy requirements, impaired mobility, lack of transportation, and low social support. Tailored lifestyle and weight management programs are needed to better support healthy aging for older adults. Here, we developed and piloted an age-adapted, remotely delivered modification of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). The modification includes age-appropriate goals, visuals, and examples; flexible dietary composition; remote classroom and fitness-monitoring technology; and standardized online classroom materials employing pedagogical and behavior change theory...

OBJECTIVE: This study, utilizing data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2005 and 2018, investigates the association between the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), a lipid biomarker, and symptoms of depression in American adults. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study of 12,534 adults aged 20 years and older, depressive symptoms were measured utilizing the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scale. Weighted logistic regression models were employed to scrutinize the independent relationship between AIP levels and the likelihood of developing such symptoms...

In Egypt, effective usage of insulin remains a challenge due to insufficient knowledge of insulin and diabetes management, leading to errors in insulin therapy.
