BACKGROUND: Postural control allows performance of daily and sports activities. The previous studies show that postural sway inceases in orthopaedic injuries such as osteoarthritis and total knee arthroplasty. OBJECTIVE: To compare postural sway, risk of falling and function between individuals with and without patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFS). METHODS: This study included 22 subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome, age-matched pain-free 22 females serving as a control group...

BACKGROUND: Deterioration associated with aging in the erect posture and balance to change the location of the center increased the rate of fall in older age is one of the reasons. Loss of muscle strength is one of the major factors affecting the posture. In this prospective, randomized and controlled study, it was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of strengthening postural muscles through electrostimulation or by applying biofeedback exercises with static posturography in patients aged 60 years and over with balance disorder...

BACKGROUND: The foot posture index is a static measurement that splits up the foot posture into neutral, pronatus and supinatus. However, the relation between the foot posture and the plantar pressure standards is not well known. For this, the objective of this research is to check the relationship between the foot posture and plantar pressure standard. SUBJECTS AND MATERIAL: 144 participants (101 women and 43 men), mean age 25.4 ± 6.3 years, were measured for the FPI. The pedobarometric measurement was made with the plantar pressure platform, we measured total surface (cm2), mean pressure (kPa) and maximum pressure (kPa), these measurements were correlated with the FPI measurements...

The aim of this study was to determine balance problems and severity and ratio of postural instability of newly diagnosed, early stage Parkinson's patients who did not receive any antiparkinson treatment before, to evaluate fall risk clinically and posturographically and to examine the effects of pramipexole on these signs and symptoms. Detailed posturographic assessments which involved central vestibular, visual, peripheric vestibular somatosensory field tests were applied to both patient and control subjects and fall risk was determined...

The nonsurgical treatment of thoracolumbar (TLB) and lumbar burst (LB) fractures remains to be of interest, though it is not costly and avoids surgical risks. However, a subset of distinct burst fracture patterns tend to go with a suboptimal radiographic and clinical long-term outcome. Detailed fracture pattern and treatment-related results in terms of validated outcome measures are still lacking. In addition, there are controversial data on the impact of local posttraumatic kyphosis that is associated, in particular, with nonsurgical treatment...

Plain films of the pelvis remain informative and allow most of the diagnoses. Assesment of the hip joint space, bone and subchondral structures, sacrum as well as sacroiliac joints is made on the AP view. Oblique views are useful. Five different oblique views are described: Lequesne's view, Ducroquet's view, Arcelin's view, medical and urethral views. They particularly allow assement of the acetabulum, the femoral head and neck as well as the femoral superior third. Radiological technique and major indications for these views must be known...
