This study was designed to assess the effect of soya phosphatidylcholine (SPC) against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and the possible underlying mechanism using experimental and computational studies. I/R injury was induced by global ischemia for 30 min followed by reperfusion for 120 min. The perfusion of the SPC was performed for 10 min before inducing global ischemia. In the mechanistic study, the involvement of specific cellular pathways was identified using various inhibitors such as ATP-dependent potassium channel (KATP ) inhibitor (glibenclamide), protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor (chelerythrine), non-selective nitric oxide synthase inhibitor (L-NAME), and endothelium remover (Triton X-100)...

BACKGROUND: Concomitant or cured coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) may lead to difficulties in acute care management and impair prognosis. AIMS: To describe and compare the characteristics, care management and 90-day post discharge outcomes of patients hospitalized for MI who did not have COVID-19 with those of patients with concomitant or previous hospital-diagnosed COVID-19. METHODS: This population-based French study included all patients hospitalized for MI in France (30 December 2019 to 04 October 2020) from the French National Health Data System...

Our current investigation comprises the synthesis and pharmacological impact of bromelain copper nanoparticles (BrCuNP) against diabetes mellitus (DM) and associated ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) - induced myocardial infarction. Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme obtained from Ananas comosus L. Merr., which has blood platelet aggregation inhibiting and arterial thrombolytic potential. Moreover, copper is well-known to facilitate glucose metabolism and strengthen cardiac muscle and antioxidant activity; although, chronic or long-term exposure to high doses of copper may lead to copperiedus...

BACKGROUND: Studies reported a decrease in hospital admissions for myocardial infarction (MI) in early 2020 as a result of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, mainly restricted to the beginning of the pandemic. AIMS: To describe national trends in hospital admissions for MI in 2020, and to compare patient characteristics, in-hospital prognosis and 90-day mortality between patients who had an MI in 2020 and those admitted in 2017-2019. METHODS: All patients hospitalized for MI in France from 2017 to 2020 were selected from the national hospital discharge database...

BACKGROUND: Historical cohorts have shown extent of coronary artery disease to be a predictor of poorer outcomes in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. However, contemporary data in the era of reperfusion and modern secondary prevention therapy are lacking. AIM: To compare 3-year survival in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction with multivessel disease versus those with single-vessel disease. METHODS: Using data from the FAST-MI 2005, 2010 and 2015 registries, three nationwide French surveys, we included all patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention within 24hours of symptom onset...

We have to distinguish between non-modifiable risk factors such as age, gender, heredity, (we cannot fight against these enemies), and modifiable risk factors (avoidable) such as hypertension, smoking, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. Environmental factors, bad diet, sedentary lifestyle, and smoking are the basis of these risk factors. Cardiovascular disease due to these risk factors is clinically silent during a given period, then symptoms occur which can eventually lead to death. Nine risk factors explain the occurrence of 90 % of myocardial infarctions (MI), their correction avoid 80 % of MI...

BACKGROUND: Guidelines recommend to consider excluding non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) when high-sensitivity cardiac troponin is below the limit of quantification and a single blood sample is taken > 6 h after the onset of chest pain. The aim of our study was to assess such exclusion when a single blood sample was taken 3-6 h after the onset of permanent chest pain. METHODS: This observational study included consecutive patients admitted into the emergency room of our hospital with chest pain and suspected NSTEMI, with non-contributive electrocardiograms and a single high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) blood sample taken 3-6 h after the onset of chest pain and hs-cTnI < 4 ng/l (Abbott Diagnostic)...

OBJECTIVES: No reflow during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a complex issue with serious outcomes. Multiple studies have studied predictors of no-reflow during primary PCI, but data on patients with the late presentation is sparse, which constitutes the majority of patients in peripheral centers. This study aimed to determine predictors of no-reflow during PCI in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in 7 days. METHODS: It was a single-center prospective case-control study performed at a tertiary care center and included 958 patients with STEMI who underwent PCI within 7 days of symptom onset...

Cardiovascular risk is one of the major challenges of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT). Thus, during a consultation of menopause, it is essential to considering the classic cardiovascular risk factors but also those more specific to women in order to evaluate the level of cardiovascular risk: high risk, intermediate risk or low risk. Cardiovascular disease (myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke) are rare disease in women compared to men. However, they represent the leading cause of death in women after menopause in France...

Acute myocardial infarction remains a serious pathology with acute intra-hospital mortality varying from 6-14 % depending on the country. Percutaneous angioplasty is part of the therapeutic arsenal of choice for this type of pathology but it may be complicated by a stroke. We present the case of a 43-year-old woman admitted for STEMI and who develops a sylvian stroke following the percutaneous angioplasty procedure. However, the outcome of this neurological complication was favourable after she could benefit from a percutaneous thrombectomy procedure performed by a team of neuroradiologists...
