Chordoid meningioma is an uncommon histopathological type of meningioma, frequently associated with Castleman's syndrome. Histologically, chordoid meningiomas are similar to chordomas. Because of their high proliferative index, they present aggressive biological behavior and high risk of postoperative recurrence. We report a case of chordoid meningioma in an adult patient without Castleman's syndrome manifestation. As its chordoid feature is related with a rapid recurrence after incomplete removal, meticulous histopathological examination is crucial for the adequate postoperative treatment plan...

WHO grade II progestin-related meningiomas have been reported in recent series but we found no previous study describing their long-term outcome. Our study aimed to evaluate patients operated on for high-grade intracranial meningioma and who underwent long-term exposure to high dose of cyproterone acetate, nomegestrol acetate, and chlormadinone acetate. Our study retrospectively included 9 patients with high-grade progestin-related intracranial meningioma between December 2006 and September 2021. In each patient, clinico-radiological follow-up was performed every 6 months after diagnosis and treatment withdrawal recommendation...

In contrast to adults, meningiomas are uncommon tumors in childhood and adolescence. Whether adult and pediatric meningiomas differ on a molecular level is unclear. Here we report detailed genomic analyses of 37 pediatric meningiomas by sequencing and DNA methylation profiling. Histologically, the series was dominated by meningioma subtypes with aggressive behavior, with 70% of patients suffering from WHO grade II or III meningiomas. The most frequent cytogenetic aberrations were loss of chromosomes 22 (23/37 [62%]), 1 (9/37 [24%]), 18 (7/37 [19%]), and 14 (5/37 [14%])...

Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors. They have three pathologic grades. Surgical resection aiming Simpson I resection is the standard treatment for meningiomas. Radiotherapy and Gamma Knife radiosurgery are the main adjuvant and salvage treatments. Chemotherapy has limited use. Grade II, and III meningiomas have a higher recurrence rate, and adjuvant radiotherapy is usually the standard treatment for grade III meningiomas but there is not a consensus regarding grade II meningiomas. In this paper, we analyzed our meningioma series of 1401 patients and presented the treatment and follow-up results of 170 grade II meningioma cases...

We present a 69-year-old transgender woman who underwent gender-affirming surgery in 1998 and gender-affirming hormone therapy (cyproterone acetate (CPA) and estradiol) since this time. Following an MRI scan to investigate tremor in 2013, an incidental left anterior clinoid and right petrous meningioma were identified. Subtotal surgical resection was achieved for the anterior clinoid meningioma (WHO grade 1, meningothelial subtype). At follow-up in 2016, an olfactory groove meningioma and left greater wing of sphenoid meningioma were identified...

Chordoid glioma (CG), a rare slow-growing brain tumor, mainly occurs in the region of the third ventricle. Although its degree of malignancy is relatively low, its clinical prognosis is poor due to obscure clinical manifestations and the particular growing position. Currently, gross total resection is the best available method for treatment of CG. However, the tumor is located in the deep structure of the brain and close to neurovascular structure so it is difficult to remove completely. This study reported a case of CG of the third ventricle 5 years after surgery of right frontal parietal fibrous meningioma, accompanied with peri and post-operative sodium ion metabolism disorder...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Meningiomas are extra-axial central nervous system (CNS) tumors that arise from the arachnoid cells of the dura mater. Only 1.8-3.2% of all meningiomas are located at foramen magnum (FM) and pure posterior FM meningioma are very rare. The diagnosis of malignancy in patients with meningiomas has been a controversial issue. Only a histological study can confirm this situation. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of A 52-year-old female presented with a history of neck pain with progressive spastic quadriparesis...

This study reports the case of a 45-year-old female patient who underwent brain CT scan which fortuitously revealed de novo lesion. She was diagnosed with left isodense intradiploid lesion in the pterional region with bone lysis uniformly enhancing after injection of contrast medium. Magnetic resonance imaging showed T1-weighted hypointense lesion, spontaneously hyperintense signal on T2-weighted images and FLAIR images, strongly enhancing after gadolinium injection. Total tumor excision was performed. Histological examination showed chordoid meningioma...

PURPOSE: To determine the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features which could pre-operatively differentiate chordoid meningioma (CM) from other histopathological subtypes of meningioma. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of pre-operative MRI of cases with histopathologically confirmed diagnosis of meningioma during the last 5 years at our institute was done. T1W, T2W, FLAIR sequences, and post-contrast enhancement were evaluated on a qualitative scale. Normalized ADC ratios (nADCR) and normalized fractional anisotropy ratios (nFAR) were derived...

Intracranial meningiomas are uncommon in the pediatric group. Myxoid meningioma is a subtype of metaplastic meningioma. It is the rarest WHO grade I meningioma. Only one case of pediatric myxoid meningioma was described in the literature. We report the case of 14-year-old boy who presented with a left parietal dura-inserted tumor. Histological and immunological studies concluded to a myxoid meningioma. We reviewed the literature for this rare pathology and draw attention to the necessity of distinguishing it from other mucinous tumors of the central nervous system, especially chordoid meningioma which has poorer prognosis...

BACKGROUND: Neoplasms from the ventricular system share a common location but have highly variable histogenesis. Many are slowly growing tumors that behave in a benign fashion. They can be classified as primary and secondary tumors. The most common primary tumors are ependymomas, subependymomas, subependymal giant cell astrocytomas, central neurocytomas, choroid plexus tumors, meningiomas, germinomas, pineal parenchymal tumors, papillary tumors of the pineal region, chordoid gliomas, rosette-forming glioneuronal tumors of the fourth ventricle, and craniopharyngiomas...

A 68-year-old female was admitted to our hospital with right-sided hemianopsia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a well-enhanced tuberculum sellae region tumor. The patient underwent surgical tumor resection via an extended endoscopic endonasal trans-sphenoidal approach and the tumor was totally removed. The mass was extremely soft and there was no clear attachment between it and the dura mater. Furthermore, the histopathological findings obtained for the tumor during intra-operative rapid diagnosis were divergent from typical meningioma...

Recent whole-genome sequencing studies demonstrated Chr22 loss in chordoid meningiomas not accounted for by NF2 mutations. SMARCB1/INI1 is a candidate gene on Chr22, which has not been analyzed extensively in meningiomas. AKT1 mutation has been recently identified to be a driver of meningiomagenesis.
