Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The disease is very heterogeneous, with distinct genetic alterations in subtypes. The WHO 2022 5th edition classification identifies several minor groups of large B-cell lymphoma where the pathogenetic role of viruses (like EBV and HHV-8) is identified. Still, most cases fall into the group of DLBCL not otherwise specified (NOS). No review focuses only on this specific lymphoma type in the literature. The pathogenesis of this entity is still not fully understood, but several viruses and bacteria may have a role in the development of the disease...

We characterized 5 B-cell tumors carrying t(14;19)(q32;q13) that creates the IGH::BCL3 fusion gene. The patients' ages ranged between 55 and 88 years. Two patients presented with progression or recurrence of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), two with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) of non-germinal center B-like phenotype, and the remaining one with composite angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma and Epstein-Barr virus-positive DLBCL. The presence of t(14;19)(q32;q13) was confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), showing colocalization of 3' IGH and 3' BCL3 probes on der(14)t(14;19) and 5' BCL3 and 5' IGH probes on der(19)t(14;19)...

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection can engender severe B cell lymphoproliferative diseases1,2 . The primary infection is often asymptomatic or causes infectious mononucleosis (IM), a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disorder3 . Selective vulnerability to EBV has been reported in association with inherited mutations impairing T cell immunity to EBV4 . Here we report biallelic loss-of-function variants in IL27RA that underlie an acute and severe primary EBV infection with a nevertheless favourable outcome requiring a minimal treatment...

Chronic active Epstein-Barr virus (CAEBV) infection of the T-cell or Natural killer (NK)-cell type, systemic form (systemic CAEBV or sCAEBV) was defined by the WHO in 2017 as an EBV-related lymphoproliferative disorder and is listed as an EBV-positive T-cell and NK-cell proliferation. The clinical manifestations and prognoses are heterogeneous. This makes systemic CAEBV indistinguishable from other EBV-positive T-cell and NK-cell proliferations. Early diagnosis of systemic CAEBV and early hematopoietic stem cell transplantation can improve patient prognosis...

The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is a double-stranded DNA-based human tumor virus that was first isolated in 1964 from lymphoma biopsies. Since its initial discovery, EBV has been identified as a major contributor to numerous cancers and chronic autoimmune disorders. The virus is particularly efficient at infecting B-cells but can also infect epithelial cells, utilizing an array of epigenetic strategies to establish long-term latent infection. The association with histone modifications, alteration of DNA methylation patterns in host and viral genomes, and microRNA targeting of host cell factors are core epigenetic strategies that drive interactions between host and virus, which are necessary for viral persistence and progression of EBV-associated diseases...

A 24-year-old woman with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus (CAEBV) infection successfully underwent coronary artery bypass grafting for triple coronary arteries with chronic total occlusion and aneurysms. This case underscores the importance of accurate assessment and treatment of coronary artery lesions in patients with CAEBV infection.

BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal complications are common in kidney transplant (KT) patients and can be a consequence of the chronic use of immunosuppression. The differential diagnosis of colitis in KT patients includes intolerance to immunosuppressive agents, namely mycophenolate mofetil, de novo inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and opportunistic infections. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection may cause post-transplant colitis or trigger de novo IBD, although is seldom thought as the causative pathogen...

IEI can be corrected by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) however peri-transplantation intestinal inflammation may lead to increased risk of gut graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Vedolizumab inhibits the homing of lymphocytes to the intestine and may attenuate gut GVHD, yet its role in preventing GvHD in pediatric patients with IEI-associated IBD has not been studied...

BACKGROUND: Recombinant human TPO (rhTPO) promotes platelet engraftment in patients after allogeneic HSCT (allo-HSCT). However, the effects of rhTPO on platelet recovery after Haplo-HSCT in patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) have not been intensively studied. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of rhTPO on platelet engraftment in patients with SAA who were treated with Haplo-HSCT using post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy). BACKGROUND: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is widely infected in humans and causes various diseases. Among them, microRNAs of EBV play a key role in the progression of EBV-associated febrile diseases. There're few specific indicators for rapid differential diagnosis of various febrile diseases associated with EBV, and the lack of more reliable screening methods with high diagnostic utility has led to spaces for improvement in the accurate diagnosis and efficient treatment of relevant patients, making EBV infection a complicated clinical problem...

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is one of the most common malignancies affecting solid organ transplant recipients. The disease is frequently associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection (70% of cases) and cases are often delineated by EBV positivity status. The oncogenesis of EBV-positive PTLD is well-described in the literature; however, the etiology of the EBV-negative subtype is poorly understood. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS). MS results from an inflammatory process leading to the loss of neural tissue and increased disability over time. The role of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), as one of the most common global viruses, in MS development has been the subject of several studies. However, many related questions are still unanswered. This study aimed to review the connection between MS and EBV and provide a quick outline of MS prevention using EBV vaccination...
