To determine the prevalence of parvovirus 4 infection and its clinical and sociodemographic correlations in Finland, we used virus-like particle-based serodiagnostic procedures (immunoglobulin [Ig] G, IgM, and IgG avidity) and PCR. We conducted a randomized, controlled clinical trial to determine the immunogenicity of intradermal immunization with recombinant hepatitis B vaccine among HIV-positive subjects. Induction of antibody concentration over 10 IU/L or four-fold increase in the antibody concentration against hepatitis B surface antigen was regarded a successful immunization. This population-based, retrospective, cohort study describes a large methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) epidemic caused by one strain (E1) in the greater Helsinki region. Despite convincing results of studies in vitro, less is known about the effects of antioxidants on in vivo redox balance in humans. Toxicity of contaminated sediments collected from an old sawmill area and the downstream river-lake system was assessed with three different bioassays. Survival and growth were used as endpoints in subchronic (10-day) test with Chironomus riparius and growth and reproduction in long-term (28-day) test with Lumbriculus variegatus. A microbial bioluminescent direct contact assay, the Flash test, was also included in the test set to measure acute toxicity.
