Mechanical stimulation widely exists in the body and participates in adjusting biological behavior of many kinds of cells. As a common stress pattern in the body, the tensile strain widely exists in many organs, such as bone and cartilage, muscle tendon, cardiac and pulmonary vessels, and so on. In recent years, with the development of the researches of biomechanics, a variety of mechanical loading devices, which are used to simulate the complex mechanical stimulation in the body to provide the tensile strain including the isometric, uniaxial and various types of mechanical waveform, came into being...

Calcium binding protein calbindin-D28K (CaBP28K) mediates the relationship between vitamin D and calcium, but its mechanism remains unclear during bone formation. The present study reports that maternal CaBP28K levels were positively correlated with paired umbilical cord CaBP28K levels. In addition, CaBP28K levels were positively correlated with the body length, and head and chest circumferences of neonates, but negatively correlated with maternal 25(OH)D3 levels. CaBP28K was also downregulated in MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts when treated with 1,25(OH)2D or VDR overexpression, but was upregulated in the femur of 1α(OH)ase(-/-) mice...

Le thème du Congrès 2017 de l'Association canadienne des ergothérapeutes a suscité des réflexions sur les différentes manières d'orienter l'avenir de notre profession. But.

Primary liver carcinomas with both hepatocytic and cholangiocytic differentiation have been referred to as "combined (or mixed) hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma." These tumors, although described over 100 years ago, have attracted greater attention recently because of interest in possible stem cell origin and perhaps because of greater frequency and clinical recognition. Currently, due to lack of common terminology in the literature, effective treatment and predictable outcome data have been challenging to accrue...

Soft tissue tumors represent a special challenge in interdisciplinary cooperation. Malignant tumors require a multimodal therapy concept so that patient treatment in a specialized tumor center is recommended. The task of the surgeon in close cooperation with the radiologist is the resection of the tumor in sano with the required safety margin. The aim of diagnostic imaging is to describe the primary expansion of the tumor size and a possible tumor infiltration of adjacent compartments. The most important diagnostic imaging for this purpose is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially T1-weighted fat-suppressed gadolinium-enhanced sequences...

The occipital bone is a complex structure due to its anatomy and accessory sutures. Fracture - accessory suture differential diagnosis should be performed carefully in patients with a history of head trauma [4]. In this case report we wanted to emphasize that accessory sutures can be difficult to diagnose in patients with head trauma. We also specified the points to be considered in the suture - fracture differentional diagnosis. A bilateral, symmetrical fissure line was observed in the occipital bone basal part of the patient who was admitted to our emergency department due to head trauma...

This reflection on the relevance of sociology starts with the different forms of social knowledge, and some autobiographical reflection on my engagement with the discipline. A research-based social science is made urgent by the prevalence of distortion and pseudoscience in the public realm. However, the research-based knowledge formation is embedded in a global economy of knowledge that centers on a privileged group of institutions and produces major imbalances on a world scale. Sociological data collection has important uses in policy and public discussion...

In this study, we aimed to research the effects of class-I HDACs and glucose on differentiation of pancreatic islet derived mesenchymal stem cells (PI-MSCs) to beta cells. Beta cell differentiation determined by flow cytometric analysis and gene expression levels of PDX1, PAX4, PAX6, NKX6.1, NGN3, INS2, and GLUT2. As a result the valproic acid, is an inhibitor of class-I HDACs, caused the highest beta cell differentiation in PI-MSCs. However, the cells in this group were at early stages of differentiation. Glucose co-administration to this group carried the differentiation to higher levels, but these newly formed beta cells were not functional...

Propofol (2,6-diisopropylphenol) is probably the most widely used intravenous anesthetic agent in daily practice. It has been reported to show immunomodulatory activity. However, the effect of propofol on the differention of T cells remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrated for the first time that propofol inhibited both interleukin (IL)-6 plus transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)-induced Th17 cell differentiation in vitro and in LPS-challenged mice. Propofol also suppressed the IL-6-induced phosphorylation of Janus kinase-2 (JAK2)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT3) pathway, a cytokine-activated essential transcription factor in Th17 cell development, which occurred concomitantly with the enhancement of suppressor of cytokine signaling-3 (SOCS3) expression involved in the downregulation of STAT3 phosphorylation...

IL6 produced by tumor cells promotes their survival, conferring a poor prognosis in patients with cancer. IL6 also contributes to immunosuppression of CD4(+) T cell-mediated antitumor effects. In this study, we focused on the impact of IL6 trans-signaling mediated by soluble IL6 receptors (sIL6R) expressed in tumor-bearing hosts. Higher levels of sIL6R circulating in blood were observed in tumor-bearing mice, whereas the systemic increase of sIL6R was not prominent in tumor-bearing mice with myeloid cell-specific conditional deletion of IL6R even when tumor cells produced sIL6R...

BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION/AIM: Positron emission tomography (PET) is the gold standard for the quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF). A standard PET scan is acquired in two phases (rest and pharmacological stress). (13)N-ammonia is a perfusion radiotracer that may show residual activity, which may affect MBF estimation during the second phase of the scan. An algorithm for residual activity correction (RAC) is available when reconstruction is performed using Syngo MBF (by Siemens)...

Muscle-derived stem cells (MDSC) are a population of multipotent stem cells in the muscular tissue. It provide an excellent prospect of hemopathy treatment due to their superiorities, such as rich sources, convenient material resource and a high survival rate after transplantation and so on. However, there are great differences in sampling, separation, purification, and proliferation when MDSC were cultured in vitro. In addition, the proliferation conditions of the MDSC in vitro are yet unclear. The related regulatory mechanisms, which MDSC transformed into haematopoietic cells, need to be investigated...

In much of the academic debate on the integration of Muslims into Western liberal democracies, Islam is often treated as one or the sole independent variable in the lives of Muslims. Offering to view Islam-or the understanding of Islam among Muslims-as the dependent variable, The Muslim Question in Canada discusses the influence of socioeconomic forces in shaping the Muslim immigrants' opinions, modes of thinking, and even interpretations of their faith. Drawing on this general approach, which is introduced and developed in the book using a variety of both quantitative and qualitative data, this article focuses on a school of thought within the Islamic jurisprudence known as fiqh al-aqalliyyat al-Muslema (the jurisprudence of Muslim minorities)...
