Introduction Prurigo pigmentosa (PP) is an underrecognized disease in the Western population. Our aim is to describe the clinical features and follow-up outcomes of Caucasian patients diagnosed with PP. Methods This case series was conducted in the dermatology outpatient clinic of a tertiary hospital. Patients with confirmed PP from May 2020 to June 2021 were included in the study. Patient demographics, clinical features, potential triggers, treatment and follow-up data were recorded. Results A total of eight patients with female predominance were identified...

Prurigo pigmentosa (PP) is a rare pruritic condition with idiopathic etiology that affects mostly females. It most commonly presents as a rash on the neck and trunk. We report the occurrence of PP in a young woman on two separate occasions; her first episode was following a ketogenic diet and second after undergoing a laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery. This presents as a unique case because, to our knowledge, PP has only been reported in a small number of cases in the Western world. This presentation could be suggestive of a stronger relationship between PP and the metabolic state of the body...

Prurigo pigmentosa is a rare inflammatory cutaneous disorder associated with ketosis that resolves with reticulate hyperpigmentation. A 19-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis. He also had developed reticulate papules coalescing into plaques over the posterior neck, back, and abdomen. Histopathological findings consistent with the clinical findings suggested the diagnosis of prurigo pigmentosa. After treatment with topical triamcinolone and oral doxycycline along with resolution of his ketosis after insulin administration, the patient's rash healed with reticulate hyperpigmentation...

Prurigo pigmentosa (PP) is an uncommon inflammatory dermatosis first described in 1971. It is characterized by recurrent crops of pruritic erythematous papulovesicles that resolve with a macular reticulated hyperpigmentation. The exact etiology is yet to be determined, however with the expanded application of the ketogenic diet (KD) in recent years, conditions accompanied with ketosis are more commonly being described in association with PP. Antibiotics as well as resolution of ketosis can effectively treat the dermatitis...

The Asian population currently constitutes a simple majority of the global population, comprising nearly 60%. The percentage of the US population that identifies as Asian is expected to grow to 41 million by the year 2050, making up an eventual 9% of the US population. As the world and US populations of Asian individuals increase, the demand for dermatologic care from this population will increase, requiring dermatologists to become more familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of Asian-specific skin characteristics and diseases...

Prurigo pigmentosa is a rare inflammatory skin disease characterized by an unexpected onset of diffuse erythematous papules and macules usually on the chest, neck, and back. These generally resolve, leaving reticular hyperpigmentation. Rarely, vesicular or bullous forms have been reported. We present a case of exfoliative vesiculobullous prurigo pigmentosa in a 13-year-old boy. He presented with symmetrical eruption of papules and vesicles on his back, neck, and chest in the last 10 days, causing pruritis and prickling sensation...

Background: Prurigo pigmentosa (PP) is a rare inflammatory dermatosis characterized by pruritic erythematous papules that coalesce to form a reticulate pattern. PP is often misdiagnosed, and patients are treated with ineffective therapies. Although the majority of reports about PP are from East Asia, patients of all backgrounds can be affected. Objectives: To perform a systematic review of reported PP cases with the purpose of summarizing the clinical presentation and treatment of PP...

A 19-year-old female of South Asian descent presented with a three-day history of pruritic, clustered papules and vesicles on her abdomen, associated with significant pruritus and intermittent pain. She commenced a ketogenic diet four days prior to the emergence of the rash. Histopathological and clinical findings were in keeping with prurigo pigmentosa, an uncommon dermatosis characterised by pruritic, erythematous papules and vesicles presenting reticulated on the back, chest and neck. Prurigo pigmentosa may be distinguished from many other skin lesions by its reticular pattern...

Pruritus pigmentosa is a skin disease mainly characterized by pruritus, inflammatory rash and reticular and macular pigmentation. The disease more commonly affects young women and may persist for several years. In this article, we report a case of a 20-year-old female patient who presented with erythema and blisters on the neck and trunk with pruritus for 20 days. Dermatological examination revealed a reticular distribution of erythema on the chest and abdomen and some areas of erythema covered with crusts...
