A FILIARISATION OF THE MANAGEMENT OF AORTIC DISSECTIONS IN ÎLE DE FRANCE Creation of a dedicated Aortic network for patients with an aortic emergency in Ile de France, via the SOS AORTE program, not only improves the times of immediate care and their 30-day mortality, but also offers a specialized and multidisciplinary follow-up, dedicated to chronic aortic pathology. The multidisciplinary "Aortic team" of cardiologists, radiologists, resuscitators, cardiac and vascular surgeons optimizes the patient's chances of benefiting from the most suited treatment to the type of dissection and its complications...

Background: This study aims to compare the success, complications, and long-term outcomes of aortic balloon valvuloplasty and surgical aortic valvuloplasty in pediatric patients with congenital aortic valve stenosis. Methods: Between March 2000 and October 2019, a total of 267 procedures, including 238 balloon valvuloplasties and 29 surgical valvuloplasties, in 198 children (135 males, 63 females; mean age: 57.4±62.6 months; range, 0.03 to 219 months) were retrospectively analyzed...

Localized dissection of the descending thoracic aorta; class 3 of the classification proposed by the European Society of Cardiology; is a short and limited length dissection involving the descending thoracic aorta. It is a rare and unrecognized variant that poses a clinical and radiological diagnostic challenge. Indeed, it is manifested by an aspecific clinical profile represented by the acute aortic syndrome and characterized by a confused radiological aspect that entangled with the other differential diagnoses...

Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a chronic degenerative disease that is usually silent until rupture occurs and this complication is still associated in contemporary era with a high rate of mortality. Screening programmes for abdominal aortic aneurysm have been shown to be effective in reducing global mortality in the screened population but these programmes are poorly implemented in the Western countries. As coronary artery disease and abdominal aorta aneurysmal disease share many risk factors, the cardiologist is centrally positioned in the screening strategy, not only to identify patients with higher risk of developing abdominal aortic aneurysm, but also to perform an opportunistic screening during echocardiography...

Arterial involvement in Behçet's disease is rare, the aortic localization is one of the most severe manifestations of the disease. We present an exceptional case of Behçet's disease revealed by two infrarenal abdominal aorta aneurysms, associated to a femoral artery pseudoaneurysm. The management of aneurysms in Behçet's disease is delicate, and requires the combination of surgical treatment with adjuvant medical drug therapy in order to reduce complications risk.

Doxorubicin is an anticancer agent that is commonly used to treat a number of tumors and is associated with acute and chronic changes of the cardiovascular system. Ellagic acid has strong free radical scavenging capacity, neuroprotective and hepatoprotective effects, and is known to protect against changes occurring due to diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Twenty-four Wistar rats were divided in four groups: control group received saline, doxorubicin group received doxorubicin in a single dose of 20 mg/kg, ellagic acid group received ellagic acid in a dose of 4 mg/kg, and doxorubicin + ellagic acid group received doxorubicin and ellagic acid in same doses as in previous groups...

METHODS: Patients with advanced heart failure who were candidates for heart transplantation were retrospectively evaluated. The clinical information, cardiac catheterisation results, and computed tomography images were gathered from institutional database system. Oleuropein (OLE) is the main bioactive ingredient in the leaves of the olive plant Olea europaea L. (Oleaceae), which has proven beneficial due to the antiinflammatory, antiatherogenic, anticancer, antimicrobial, and antiviral effects. This study aimed to investigate the antihypertensive and vasodilator potential of OLE by analyzing its acute effects on spontaneous atrial contractions and vasomotor responses of the isolated thoracic aorta in rats. We showed that the application of OLE induces negative chronotropic and inotropic effects on the heart...

Bicuspid aortic valve aortopathy is defined by dilation of the aortic root (AoRt) and/or ascending aorta (AsAo), and increases risk for aortic aneurysm and dissection. The effects of medical prophylaxis on aortic growth rates in moderate to severe bicuspid aortopathy have not yet been evaluated. This was a single-center retrospective study of young patients (1 day to 29 years) with bicuspid aortopathy (AoRt or AsAo z-score ≥ 4 SD, or absolute dimension ≥ 4 cm), treated with either losartan or atenolol...

Takayasu´s disease (TD) is a chronic inflammatory arteriopathy affecting the aorta, its main branches and the pulmonary arteries. It was first described in 1908 by the Japanese ophthalmologist Mikito Takayasu. The study involved a 78-year-old patient with no known history of cardiovascular disease, admitted with abdominal pain, pain in the right lower limb when walking, insomnia. These symptoms had progressed over 1 year. Physical examination showed normal heart rate of 87 beats per minute without pathological noises, with absence of right pedal pulse, blood pressure 120/78 mmhg, free lungs, flexible abdomen, and a beating mass in the right iliac fossa whose auscultation showed continuous murmur...

One of the mortal diseases commonly seen in elderly patients is aortic aneurysm. Aort aneurysms are vary rare in patients under 50 age. When a patient over 65 age is examined, aortic aneurysm should take place in differential diagnosis list. aneurysm may be seen at both thoracic and abdominal aorta, but abdominal aorta is a more common site...

The surgical treatment of diffuse thoracic aortic pathologies remains a challenge in aortic surgery for surgeons. Traditionally, these aortic diseases are treated with a 2-step approach known as the "elephant trunk procedure." This technique gives us an opportunity for the construction of the distal anastomosis during the initial operation. However, this staged approach is associated with a substantial overall mortality and morbidity. In order to improve the outcomes, few single-stage repair methods have been tried...

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a clonal B-cell malignancy characterized by an accumulation of clonal plasma cells (PC) in the bone marrow (BM) leading to bone destruction and BM failure. Despite recent advances in pharmacological therapy, MM remains a largely incurable pathology. Therefore, novel effective and less toxic agents are urgently necessary. In the last few years, pomegranate has been studied for its potential therapeutic properties including treatment and prevention of cancer. Pomegranate juice (PGJ) contains a number of potential active compounds including organic acids, vitamins, sugars, and phenolic components that are all responsible of the pro-apoptotic effects observed in tumor cell line...

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation is preferred to treat high surgical risk patients with severe aort stenosis. Wrapping of a pig tail catheter with device struts during transcatheter aortic valve implantation is a very rare complication. In this report, we present the images and videos of an attempt of retrieval of an aortic valve wrapped with pig tail catheter during transcatheter aortic valve implantation in a 71-year-old man.
