The aim of the authors was to report a clinical case about immediate implant placement after the removal of complex odontoma. A 35-year-old female patient presented to private service complaining about absence of lower right first premolar. The computed tomographic showed radiopaque attenuation, surrounded by a narrow radiolucency in the area of dental absence, suggesting a mineralized lesion. The surgical removal of lesion was performed by intraoral access with general anesthesia and the implant of 3.75 × 10 mm (Neodent) was placed with the aid of a surgical guide, following the drill sequence established by the manufacturer...

Various contraceptive methods are available to postpartum women including hormonal and nonhormonal barriers, as well as injectable forms. Of all the available birth control methods, intrauterine devices (IUD) are felt by many to be the near-ideal form of contraception, and are recommended by advocacy groups, physicians, and gynecological organizations worldwide. Immediate postpartum IUD insertion deserves greater attention because it can provide immediate contraception, prevents repeat unintended pregnancies, and may serve to reduce the incidence or need for secondary cesarean delivery; however, insertion of conventional T-shape IUDs immediately post placenta delivery is limited by their high expulsion and displacement rates...

BACKGROUND: Tuberous breast (TB) is a rare congenital deformity, which may appear in different clinical forms representing various degrees of a single pathological entity. The worst cases are characterized by severe hypoplasia. Following a detailed analysis of the available relevant literature and a significant number of treated cases, in this article, the authors propose a new classification, with the aim of summarizing and simplifying a more intuitive categorization of the malformation, considering all the clinical aspects and including all types of TBs, even the minor ones, thus allowing a more immediate diagnosis and surgical planning...

We report on a 49-year-old fitness trainer, who was admitted to our hospital after cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation. Return of spontaneous circulation was achieved after immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Coronary angiography could exclude coronary artery disease. Echocardiography demonstrated the presence of apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, associated with cor triatriatum sinister. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging additionally showed marked myocardial fibrosis. The patient underwent placement of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator and was subsequently discharged for rehabilitation in good condition...

Successful rehabilitation of a patient should restore function, esthetic, and speech by prosthesis. Treatment modalities vary from patient to patient. Semi-precision attachments and implants offer several advantages over the traditional approach. The aim and objective of this report was to assess a case of a 55-year-old female patient who had lost all her teeth, except maxillary canines #13 and #23 and with severe bone loss in the mandible. Tooth-supported bar attachment was planned for maxilla, and a total of five dental implants were placed in the mandible using a flapless approach aided by radiographic gutta-percha surgical stents over panoramic two-dimensional imaging...

Immediate breast reconstruction is an acceptable treatment option after mastectomy for prophylaxis of early breast cancer. Different options exist for implant placement, incision technique, patient suitability, and institutional experience. This article is a case series exploring the feasibility and outcomes of patients undergoing immediate breast reconstruction using skin-sparing mastectomy without mesh or acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and with a vertical inframammary incision. METHODS: A single-institution retrospective analysis was performed for all patients who underwent immediate single-stage reconstruction with subcutaneous silicon implants without ADM between 2009 and 2014 inclusive...

BACKGROUND: A loading dose of antiplatelets reduces in-stent thrombosis after stent implantation. However, whether it is safe in patients undergoing acute stenting after intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is unclear. METHODS: A case series of acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous rt-PA followed by emergent stenting were prospectively included in Jinling Hospital Stroke Unit. An emergent loading dose of antiplatelets (aspirin 300mg and clopidogrel 300mg) were administered to all patients through a nasogastric tube immediately before stenting...

Reductions in peri-implant bone height have been acknowledged as a normal consequence of implant therapy. Various restorative factors contribute to this phenomenon. One is repeated abutment retightening, which causes a mechanical disruption at the implant-abutment interface, leading to soft tissue recession. Several investigators proposed placement of the definitive abutment after implant placement as a solution to the problem. The definitive use of an intermediate abutment after implant placement seems to positively affect the soft tissue response...
