The nail-patella syndrome involves a clinical tetrad of changes in the nails, knees, elbows and the presence of iliac horns. Nail changes are the most constant feature: absent, hypoplastic, or dystrophic. A pathognomonic finding is the presence of the triangular lunula. The diagnosis of nail-patella syndrome is based on clinical findings. In this paper we will discuss a case report of this syndrome and its relation with a dermatological finding.

Low rates of breast and cervical cancer screening among Hmong women have been documented. Mistrust of Western medicine and the health care system, as well as experiences of discrimination in health care, may be barriers to seeking health care for this population. In this study, we explored medical mistrust among Hmong women and men, their experiences with discrimination in health care, and how these factors may influence Hmong women's breast and cervical cancer screening behavior. We conducted semi-structured, in-depth interviews with women and men who were members of the Hmong community in Oregon...

We describe power-transfer effects, over a certain threshold, among constituents of planar waveguiding structures consisting of an optical linear layer deposited onto a nonlinear substrate (CdS(x)Se(1-x)-doped glass). Proper selection of the thickness of the linear waveguiding film and the refractive index of the linear cladding allows one to obtain optical transistor action and to construct all-optical AND, OR, NOT, and XOR logic gates. The effects appear for the TE(0) guided mode.

A reproducible and selective method was developed for the analysis of three anti-pschycotics, i.e. haloperidol, trifluoperazine and trihexyphenidyl in bulk and dosage forms using packed column supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). The analytes were resolved by elution with supercritical fluid carbon dioxide doped with 16.67% (v/v) methanol containing 0.8% isopropylamine. Parallel studies were performed by HPLC using ion pairing reagent and a comparison is discussed. The method was successfully used for the assay of three formulations containing a combination of: (1) haloperidol-trihexyphenidyl; (2) haloperidol-trifluoperazine; (3) trifluoperazine-trihexyphenidyl...

INTRODUCTION: The numerous possibilities for adapting the Ilizarov apparatus allows the progressive correction of complex angular deviations, for which flat apparatus are sometimes difficult to adapt and this report describes our experience using the Ilizarov apparatus to treat axial limb deformities. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 48 patients (22 girls and 26 boys aged between 2 and 18 years-old) suffering from 58 angular deformities were treated with an Ilizarov device...
