Apigenin-7-O-glucoside (A7G) is the main flavonoid of Bidens gardneri Bak., a Brazilian plant with wide application in folk medicine. Despite the popular use of this plant, its biological effects are not completely known. This work tested the 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin iron(III) and manganese(III) chloride (Fe(TFPP)Cl and Mn(TFPP)Cl), and Jacobsen's catalyst as P450-bioinspired catalysts for A7G oxidation by different oxidants (PhIO, H2 O2 , m-CPBA, and t-BuOOH). Up to nine different products were detected by HPLC analysis; Reactions with metalloporphyrin/PhIO systems afforded high catalytic conversions (58-89%)...

OBJECTIVE: To provide a new approach for studying the compatibility principle of traditional Chinese medicine formula (TCMF) by constructing compatibility network of phamarcologic action of TCMF according to the network theory. METHOD: With Chinese herb as node and compatibility relationship of herb-herb as edge according to network theory, compatibility network of phamarcologic action of TCMF was constructed after the compatibility relationship of herb-herb was analysed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA)through phamarcology experiment...

This is a study of descriptive, exploratory and qualitative nature. It aims at identifying how nurses perceive chronic pain in cancer patients and analyses how nurses care for cancer patients with chronic pain. There were semistructured interviews with an intentional sample of six nurses from the services of Chemotherapy and Medicine III from the Baixo Alentejo Hospital Center. We found that the nurses understand pain through verbal and non verbal language of patients. Nurses pointed out some difficulties with the assessement of pain, the pharmacologic and non-phamarcologic treatments...

Sphingosine has been shown to be a potent and specific inhibitor of protein kinase C in vitro and in cell systems including human platelets. Questions have been raised as to the validity of commercial sphingosine as a protein kinase C inhibitor and whether sphingosine or N,N-dimethylsphingosine is the active species. In the present study, we compared the effects of synthetic D-erythro-sphingosine, N,N-dimethylsphingosine and commercial sphingosine on purified protein kinase C in vitro and washed human platelets...
