INTRODUCTION: We aimed to compare the performance at the Examen Nacional de Aspirantes a Residencias Médicas (ENARM) of the five direct-entry surgical specialties, and between Mexicans and International medical graduates (IMG). METHODS: This study was cross-sectional, used historical data from the annual public report of the ENARM during 8 years (2012-2019). We compare the minimum (MinSco) and maximum (MaxSco) scores of each specialty using ANOVA. Mexican versus IMG scores were evaluated with independent student t-test, trends with Spearman's correlation coefficient and a 5-years forecasting trend...

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the performance in the National Assessment for Applicants for Medical Resi- dency (ENARM in spanish) of private versus public medical schools, geographic regions and socioeconomic levels by using three different statistical methods (summary measurements, the rate of change and the area under the receiver operator characteristics [AUROC]). These methods have not been previously used for the ENARM; however, some variations of the summary measurements have been reported in some USA assessments of medical school graduates...

OBJECTIVE: To assess the performance of medical schools (FEM) by analyzing the results of their applicants in the Examen Nacional para Aspirantes a Residencias Médicas (ENARM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five performance criteria, two official and three created on purpose, were calculated from the ENARM-2016 and -2017 official databases to assess FEM performance. RESULTS: In 2016 and 2017, applicants registered from 112 and 115 FEM, respectively...

OBJECTIVE: To assess the assumption of 'equity' of Mexico's resident-selection assessment tool, the Examen Nacional para Aspirantes a Residencias Médicas (ENARM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Official ENARM-2016 and -2017 databases were analyzed. Differences in the absolute number of correct answers (multivariable linear regression) and the number of applicants reaching their specialty minimum score (SMS) per test day (odds ratio [OR]) were calculated. Applicants affected by test-day inequity were estimated...

In Mexico, the career of Doctor of Medicine has been considered as a prerequisite stage to access the specialization. Of course the majority of medical graduates aspire to undertake postgraduate courses in the different institutions that have a university program. The Examen Nacional de Aspirantes a Residencias Médicas (ENARM) (National Evaluation for Medical Residency Applicants) has become for the supporters a gap between the possibility of practicing the profession in a decent way and with a regular remuneration or exercising it in very limited conditions and with low economic income or even without exercising it...

BACKGROUND: The Mexican mandatory year of social service following medical school, or pasantía, is designed to provide a safety net for the underserved. However, social service physicians (pasantes) are typically unpracticed, unsupervised, and unsupported. Significant demotivation, absenteeism, and underperformance typically plague the social service year. OBJECTIVE: Compañeros en Salud (CES) aimed to create an education-support package to turn the pasantía into a transformative learning experience...

INTRODUCTION: The attitudes of specialist physicians toward organ donation and transplantation are of great interest because promotion of this activity depends on them. Our objective was to analyze the attitudes of residents in health centers in Spain (MIR) and in Mexico (ENARM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A random stratified sample was obtained in six teaching hospitals: two in Spain (n = 246) and four in Mexico (n = 139) as part of the International Collaborative Program "Proyecto Donante, Murcia...

INTRODUCTION: At the end of the XXth century, collegiate efforts (evaluation and accreditation) were carried out to identify the quality of undergraduate medical education in Mexico. The growth of medical schools during the 1970's had stabilized and the combination of other factors had contributed to increase its quality. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Analytic-descriptive research of selected indicators of the medical curricula from the sixties to the year 2000: entry, enrollment, and drop out rates, graduates, title, selection by the national postgraduate exam of medical residences (ENARM), faculty members and creation of medical schools...
