The recurrence of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) following liver resection is common; approximately 40% of patients will experience tumor recurrence post-surgery. Renin-angiotensin inhibitors (RASis) have been shown to attenuate the growth and progression of CRLM in pre-clinical models following liver resection. This study examined the efficacy of the RASi captopril on patient-derived colorectal liver metastasis organoids. Patient-derived organoids (PDOs) were established using fresh samples of colorectal liver metastasis from appropriately consented patients undergoing liver resection...

Cell death is crucial for maintaining tissue balance and responding to diseases. However, under pathological conditions, the surge in dying cells results in an overwhelming presence of cell debris and the release of danger signals. In the liver, this gives rise to hepatic inflammation and hepatocellular cell death, which are key factors in various liver diseases caused by viruses, toxins, metabolic issues, or autoimmune factors. Both clinical and in vivo studies strongly affirm that hepatocyte death serves as a catalyst in the progression of liver disease...

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury(HIRI) remains to be an unsolved risk factor that contributes to organ failure after liver surgery. Our clinical retrospective study showed that lower donor liver CX3-C chemokine receptor-1(CX3CR1) mRNA expression level were correlated with upregulated pro-resolved macrophages receptor MERTK, as well as promoted restoration efficiency of allograft injury in liver transplant. To further characterize roles of CX3CR1 in regulating resolution of HIRI, we employed murine liver partial warm ischemia-reperfusion model by Wt &Cx3cr1-/- mice and the reperfusion time was prolonged from 6 h to 4-7 days...

BACKGROUND: Liver metastases (i.e. secondary hepatic malignancies) are significantly more common than primary liver cancer. Long-term survival after radical surgical treatment is approximately 50%. For people in whom resection for cure is not feasible, other treatments must be considered. One treatment option is microwave coagulation utilising electromagnetic waves. It involves placing an electrode into a lesion under ultrasound or computed tomography guidance. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the beneficial and harmful effects of microwave coagulation versus no intervention, other ablation methods, or systemic treatments in people with liver metastases regardless of the location of the primary tumour...

Metastatic breast cancer remains to be a major cause of cancer-related deaths in women. Exploring the molecular mechanisms to identify targetable alterations in progressing breast cancer and developing functional tools to predict therapy response in these patients are needed. In this report, we present a case of breast cancer patient who progressed following surgery and adjuvant endocrine therapy. Radiological and pathological analyses revealed metastasis to liver and brain. Paired liquid biopsies demonstrated acquired ERBB2 mutations in addition to TP53 and PIK3CA mutations, which were also present before progression...

BACKGROUND: The study explores the role of liver debulking surgery in cases of unresectable colorectal liver metastases (CRLM), challenging the traditional notion that surgery is not a valid option in such scenarios. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with advanced but resectable disease who underwent surgery with a curative intent (Group I) and those with advanced incompletely resectable disease who underwent a "debulking" hepatectomy (Group II) were compared. RESULTS: There was no difference in the intra-operative and post-operative results between the two groups...

The application of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has changed the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a first-line treatment for intermediate hepatocellular carcinoma. Serving as a local treatment modality that can induce immunogenic cell death, the efficacy and safety of combined use with ICI have not been evaluated. Although there have been prospective studies aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of ICI combined with TACE in BCLC stage B HCC patients, there are few reports on the evaluation of BCLC stage C patients with distant metastasis or portal vein cancer thrombus...

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant primary brain tumor. Despite comprehensive treatment with traditional surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, the median survival rate is <14.6% and the 5-year survival rate is only 5%. FBXO22, a substrate receptor of the SCF ubiquitin ligases, has been reported to play a promoting role in melanoma, liver cancer, cervical cancer, and other cancers. However, the function of FBXO22 in GBM has not been reported. In the present study, we demonstrate that FBXO22 is highly expressed in glioma and is positively correlated with worse pathological features and shorter survival of GBM patients...

Liver haemangiomas are the most common benign hepatic tumours, but secondary portal hypertension resulting from haemangiomas is exceedingly uncommon. We present a case of a man in his 50s who presented with a progressively enlarging mass in the right upper abdomen. CT of the liver revealed a large hypodense lesion involving the right lobe, with two smaller lesions in the left lobe. The portal vein was compressed by the tumour, causing portal hypertension. The patient underwent right hepatectomy. Postoperatively, the patient had an uneventful course, and a 3-month follow-up demonstrated resolution of the oesophageal varices, portal gastropathy, with hypertrophy of the left lobe...
