OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of luteal phase support with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) or oral progesterone during human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) ovulation induction. METHODS: Between September 1999 and March 2001, a total of 91 couples with infertility were recruited at Al-Hammadi Hospital, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Badeea Hospital, Jordan. In this prospective trial 46 couples were allocated to luteal phase support with hCG injections, while 45 couples were allocated to Duphaston (oral progestogens) as luteal support...

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of three different combinations of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on insulin secretion, peripheral insulin sensitivity, serum lipid levels and parameters of oxidative stress. Seven type II diabetic women of mean age 55.4 +/- 4.7 years, who had been menopausal for an average of 5 years, were enrolled in the study. Phases of insulin secretion--first (FPIS) and second (SPIS)--and the area under the curve (AUC) for insulin secretion were studied during an intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT)...

A total of 16 women with endometriosis 25 to 36 years old were examined. Of these, 6 presented with primary infertility, 10--with secondary intertility, 7 female patients had endometriosis concurrent with other localizations. The treatment was with duphaston (dydrogesteron), 10 mg (5 mg twice a day) beginning from day 5 till 25 of the menstrual cycle for 6 months. The control echography and hysteroscopy permitted ascertaining regression of endometrioid foci in 13 female patients. According to the histological findings in 15 women the endometrium corresponded to the proliferative phase of the menstrual cycle, with its focal hyperplasia having been noted in 1 woman...

Oral administration of 20 mg per day Dydrogesterone was recommended in 28 pregnancies as a prevention of risks due to ultrasound guided amniocentesis. Reduction rate (3.6% vs. 5.0%) of uterine cramping and/or uterine contraction wave, observed in US were noticed comparing to the control (n = 40). No spontaneous abortion was noticed in both groups during two weeks follow up. Amniotic fluid leakage was noticed in 2.5% of control comparing to none in the Dydrogesterone group.

OBJECTIVE: To compare dydrogesterone with placebos in the treatment of minimal to mild endometriosis. DESIGN: Prospective, double-blind, randomized study. SETTING: Three Obstetrics and Gynaecology Departments in the United Kingdom. PATIENTS: Sixty-two premenopausal women with complaints of pain (n = 12) and infertility with or without pain (n = 50) with minimal to mild endometriosis diagnosed at laparoscopy. Thirty-nine women had a laparoscopy after treatment and 56 women were followed up 12 months after treatment...

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether treatment for prevention of osteoporosis by means of postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRP) and daily exercise, had any effect on ratios of urinary calcium:creatinine (Ca:Cre) and magnesium:creatinine (Mg:Cre). A group of 33 early postmenopausal women (menopause onset 12-18 months previously), mean age 49.12 years, were treated during 6 months with low doses of transdermal estrogen (Estraderm TTS 25 micrograms, Ciba-Geigy) opposed by oral progestogen (Duphaston 10 mg, 10 days every month), and daily exercise (walking for 1 hour)...

The symptomatology of the premenstrual syndrome is frequently seen in general and gynecological practice. The aim of this study was to examine the therapeutical effect of dydrogesterone (Duphaston) on the typical premenstrual complaints as depression, headache, edema, mastodynia, dysmenorrhea and bleeding irregularities. Oral administration of 20 mg dydrogesterone b.i.d. during the second half of the menstrual cycle could well relieve the complaints mentioned above. Best results of treatment were obtained in cases of dysmenorrhea, bleeding irregularities, depression and edema...

Menstrual blood was collected from seven dysmenorrhoeic volunteers age 20-35, during nine cycles. After three control-cycles the women were treated with dydrogesteron ( Duphaston ) 2 X 10 mg/die, day 5-25, for a period of six months. Blood loss was constant over the study period. Estradiol excretion was significantly reduced during dydrogesteron treatment, whereas oestron excretion remained unchanged. Progesteron excretion was significantly higher during the treatment period (2p less than or equal to 0,05)...

We studied 10 normal and asymptomatic patients with ovulatory cycles and measured serum sodium, potassium, FSH, LH, prolactin, estradiol, progesterone and cortisol. The findings were compared with the levels in 25 patients with ovulatory cycles with premenstrual symptoms (PMS) lasting for 7-14 days prior to the onset of menstrual flow. We found no significant difference in serum sodium and potassium levels between the asymptomatic (control) group and the PMS group, or between the follicular and luteal phases of the menstrual cycle...
