RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL
Kim L McManus, Lara A Kimmel, Anne E Holland
OBJECTIVES: To investigate if Rocktape combined with exercise is more effective than exercise and sham taping in patients with knee osteoarthritis. DESIGN: Single institution, prospective, participant and assessor blinded, randomised study. SETTING: Outpatient physiotherapy department of a tertiary hospital. PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-six patients with knee osteoarthritis. INTERVENTION: Participants were randomised to either; 1) Rocktape plus exercise or 2) sham taping plus exercise...

CONTEXT: Kinesiology tape (KT) is a therapeutic intervention used to treat different musculoskeletal conditions and to enhance sports performance. The evidence is inconclusive, with researchers attributing the variable outcomes to different manufactured KT used in the research. Researchers have begun to measure and document the mechanical properties of different brands, using machines versus professionals. This prevents a clear translation to clinical practice, as it may be difficult to reproduce outcomes...

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of different variations of elastic therapeutic taping (ETT) on tests used to screen for ankle injury risk and function. DESIGN: Randomized crossover. SETTING: Laboratory. PARTICIPANTS: Twelve professional male soccer players completed three experimental trials: No tape (NT), RockTape™ (RT), and Kinesio™ Tape (KT) applied to the ankle complex. OUTCOME MEASURES: Clinical and functional ankle screening tests were used to assess the effects of ETT on measures of joint position sense, postural stability and ground reaction forces...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Rocktape (RT), a type of kinesiology tape, on perceived exertion and cycling efficiency. Eighteen recreational cyclists volunteered as subjects for this study. Four experimental conditions were used: (a) 60% VO2peak with RT, (b) 60% VO2peak without RT, (c) 80% VO2peak with RT, and (d) 80% VO2peak without RT. The Borg rating of perceived exertion (RPE) scale was used to evaluate subjective exertion during the cycling bouts. Overall RPE and leg, arm, and chest RPEs were obtained (RPE-O, RPE-L, RPE-A, and RPE-C, respectively)...

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine if elastic therapeutic tape placed on anterior lower limbs would affect stride and step length in fatigued runners' gait. METHODS: Forty-two healthy participants were equally divided into a kinesiology tape group (Rocktape) and a no-tape control group. Participants in both groups underwent a baseline running gait test at 6 mph without tape. After this, participants engaged in an exhaustive lower body fatigue protocol until they reached maximal volitional exhaustion...
