Objective: To analyse the quality of life of patients receiving repair of bone defect with folded fibula flap after removal of mandibular ameloblastoma. Methods: The case data of 39 patients with ameloblastoma admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from August 2013 to April 2016 were retrospectively analysed, including 21 males and 18 females, from 18 to 58 years old. 3D printing and digital technology were used in flap preparation before surgery in all patients. The folded fibular flaps were used to repair mandibular defects and the implants were placed between 6-9 months after surgery...

Background: A thyroid incidentaloma (TI) is an unexpected, asymptomatic thyroid lesion discovered during the investigation of an unrelated condition. The aim of the present study is to examine the incidence of 18 Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) TI, the associated management strategies and the outcomes in a tertiary cancer referral center. Methods: This study involves a retrospective cohort study of 1003 patients with TI found on 18 FDG-PET/CT scans performed between January 2010 and January 2020 for a nonthyroidal malignancy...

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 36 cases of tongue base cyst including 12 cases with concurrent laryngomalacia. Results: All the cysts of the tongue base were completely resected, and no recurrence occurred during the 6-months follow-up. Twelve patients with laryngomalacia were intubated in the ICU after surgery. Tube detachment occurred in one patient in the 1st day after surgery and no reintubation was performed immediately because of stable breathing and the absence of stridor...

BACKGROUND: Recent studies suggest that eating habits are an area particularly affected by the lockdown imposed by many countries to curb the COVID-19 epidemic. Individuals that received bariatric surgery may represent a particularly susceptible population to the adverse effects of lockdown for its potential impact on eating, psychological, and weight loss outcomes. OBJECTIVES: This study seeks to investigate the incremental impact of COVID-19 lockdown on treatment outcomes of postbariatric patients in the risk period for weight regain...

Due to their complexity, globe ruptures are highly compromising traumas for the patient. This is due on the one hand to the eye injury itself with the accompanying loss of vision and on the other hand due to the need for extended treatment with uncertain prognosis and the resulting psychological stress. Globe ruptures are among the prognostically most unfavorable injuries due to the force and peak pressure impacting the eye. Furthermore, contusional retinal necrosis may be of significance prognostically. In the present review, we discuss treatment of globe ruptures involving retinal surgery...

Background The optimal glycemic target during the perioperative period is still controversial. We aimed to explore the effects of tight glycemic control (TGC) on surgical mortality and morbidity. Methods PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL were searched from January 1, 1946 to February 28, 2018. Appropriate trails comparing the postoperative outcomes (mortality, hypoglycemic events, acute kidney injury, etc.) between different levels of TGC and liberal glycemic control were identified.
