INTRODUCTION: Electroencephalographic neurofeedback (NFB), as a non-invasive form of brainwave training, has been shown to be effective in the treatment of various mental health disorders. However, only few results regarding manualised and standardised NFB trainings exist. This makes comparison as well as replication of studies difficult. Therefore, we developed a standard manual for NFB training in patients with mental health disorders attending a psychosomatic outpatient clinic. The current study aims at investigating the conduction of a standardised manual for NFB training in patients with mental health disorders...

High-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI) has been increasingly used to assess the trabecular bone structure. High susceptibility at the marrow/bone interface may significantly reduce the marrow's apparent transverse relaxation time (T2*), overestimating trabecular bone thickness. Ultrashort echo time MRI (UTE-MRI) can minimize the signal loss caused by susceptibility-induced T2* shortening. However, UTE-MRI is sensitive to chemical shift artifacts, which manifest as spatial blurring and ringing artifacts partially due to non-Cartesian sampling...

We explored the vasorelaxant effects of ipragliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor, on rabbit femoral arterial rings. Ipragliflozin relaxed phenylephrine-induced pre-contracted rings in a dose-dependent manner. Pre-treatment with the ATP-sensitive K+ channel inhibitor glibenclamide (10 μM), the inwardly rectifying K+ channel inhibitor Ba2+ (50 μM), or the Ca2+ -sensitive K+ channel inhibitor paxilline (10 μM) did not influence the vasorelaxant effect. However, the voltage-dependent K+ (Kv) channel inhibitor 4-aminopyridine (3 mM) reduced the vasorelaxant effect...

Design of hardware based on biological principles of neuronal computation and plasticity in the brain is a leading approach to realizing energy- and sample-efficient AI and learning machines. An important factor in selection of the hardware building blocks is the identification of candidate materials with physical properties suitable to emulate the large dynamic ranges and varied timescales of neuronal signaling. Previous work has shown that the all-or-none spiking behavior of neurons can be mimicked by threshold switches utilizing material phase transitions...

In this paper, we propose a borophene-based grating structure (BBGS) to realize multi-band plasmon-induced absorption. The coupling of two resonance modes excited by upper borophene grating (UBG) and lower borophene grating (LBG) leads to plasmon-induced absorption. The coupled-mode theory (CMT) is utilized to fit the absorption spectrum. The simulated spectrum fits well with the calculated result. We found the absorption peaks exhibit a blue shift with an increase in the carrier density of borophene grating...

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of oral theophylline on stent-related syndrome (SRS) after Double-J insertion. BACKGROUND: Double-J stent is widely using in many urological procedures. Infection, hematuria, and discomfort are some of common complication after stenting. Theophylline is a dimethylated xanthine that inhibits phosphodiesterase and blocks adenosine receptors. To relaxing effect of theophylline on smooth muscles and its effects on the urinary system, it seems it could reduce complications after inserting Double-J stent especially ureteral stent syndrome...

Previous research on how problem-difficulty affects solution-types of insight-problems has yielded contradictory findings. Thus, we aimed to examine the impact of problem-difficulty on solution-types in both inter- and intra-problem-difficulty contexts. For this, we employed the original 8-coin, and 9-dot problems and four hinted-versions of those that were manipulated by using hints-to-remove-sources-of-difficulty to alter their difficulty level. Those manipulations were executed based on the assumptions of constraint-relaxation and chunk-decomposition as posited by representational change theory...

Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals, resulting in considerable economic losses. Its causal agent is foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), a picornavirus. Due to its error-prone replication and rapid evolution, the transmission and evolutionary dynamics of FMDV can be studied using genomic epidemiological approaches. To analyze FMDV evolution and identify possible transmission routes in an Argentinean region, field samples that tested positive for FMDV by PCR were obtained from 21 farms located in the Mar Chiquita district...

Mitral regurgitation (MR) is highly prevalent among patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Despite this combination being closely associated with unfavourable outcomes, it remains relatively understudied. This is partly due to the inherent heterogeneity of patients with HFpEF. To address this gap, dissecting HFpEF into mechanism-based phenotypes may offer a promising avenue for advancing our comprehension of these complex intertwined conditions. This review employs the validated CircAdapt model to explore the haemodynamic implications of moderate to severe MR across a well-defined spectrum of myocardial disease, characterized by impaired relaxation and reduced myocardial compliance...

We use the particle-based stochastic multi-particle collision dynamics (N-MPCD) algorithm to simulate confined nematic liquid crystals in regular two-dimensional polygons such as squares, pentagons and hexagons. We consider a range of values of the nematicities, U , and simulation domain sizes, R , that canvass nano-sized polygons to micron-sized polygons. We use closure arguments to define mappings between the N-MPCD parameters and the parameters in the continuum deterministic Landau-de Gennes framework. The averaged N-MPCD configurations agree with those predicted by Landau-de Gennes theory, at least for large polygons...

Radiation-induced damage of biological matter is an ubiquitous problem in nature. The influence of the hydration environment is widely discussed, but its exact role remains elusive. Utilising well defined solvated-molecule aggregates, we experimentally observed a hydrogen-bonded water molecule acting as a radiation protection agent for ionised pyrrole, a prototypical aromatic biomolecule. Pure samples of pyrrole and pyrrole(H2 O) were outer-valence ionised and the subsequent damage and relaxation processes were studied...

Time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy using an extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe pulse was used to investigate the UV photoinduced dynamics of adenine (Ade), adenosine (Ado), and adenosine-5-monophosphate (AMP) in a liquid water jet. In contrast to previous studies using UV probe pulses, the XUV pulse at 21.7 eV can photoionize all excited states of a molecule, allowing for full relaxation pathways to be addressed after excitation at 4.66 eV. This work was carried out using a gas-dynamic flat liquid jet, resulting in considerably enhanced signal compared to a cylindrical jet...

The value of accurate protein structural models closely conforming to the experimental data is indisputable. DREAMweb deploys an improved DREAM algorithm, DREAMv2, that incorporates a tighter bound in the constraint set of the underlying optimization approach. This reduces the artifacts while modeling the protein structure by solving the distance-geometry problem. DREAMv2 follows a bottom-up strategy of building smaller substructures for regions with a larger concentration of experimental bounds and consolidating them before modeling the rest of the protein structure...

Our goal is to study a more homogeneous cLBP population and focus on multiple cross-network (CN) connectivity analysis. We hypothesize that within this population: 1) altered CN FC, involving emotion and reward/aversion functions are related to their pain levels and 2) altered relationships are dependent upon pain phenotype (constant neuropathic vs intermittent pain)...

The relationship between molecular structure and water dynamics is a fundamental yet often neglected subject in the field of hydrogels for drug delivery, bioprinting, as well as biomaterial science and tissue engineering & regenerative medicine (TE&RM). Water is a fundamental constituent of hydrogel systems and engages via hydrogen bonding with the macromolecular network. The methods and techniques to measure and reveal the phenomena and dynamics of water within hydrogels are still limited. In this work, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used as a quantitative method to analyze freezable (including free and freezable bound) and non-freezable bound water within gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels...
