Euglycemic diabetic keto acidosis (eu-DKA) is a rare but life-threatening metabolic complication associated with sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor therapy, especially in the setting of extreme physical stress. Due to no apparent hyperglycemia, the significant risk of delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis exists within patients. Herein, we report a novel case of dapagliflozin-associated eu-DKA with unusual presentation. A 57-year-old female with a six-year history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), for which metformin and dapagliflozin were prescribed, developed severe abdominal pain and signs of acute peritonitis without obvious hyperglycemia after distal pancreatectomy...

Introduction: Strangulated pregnancy is a very rare presentation in which the intra umbilical strangulated form is exceptional. To our knowledge, we report the first Moroccan case and one of less than 10 cases published in the literature of a strangulated gravid uterus; in a woman admitted for treatment of umbilical pain. Case presentation: Through this presentation, we report a sporadic case of hernial strangulation during pregnancy containing an evolving pregnancy in the umbilical harness bag...

BACKGROUND: Goal directed therapy (GDT) is applied during the initial resuscitation of sepsis, known as early goal directed therapy (EGDT). Recent studies in major abdominal surgery suggested that anesthetic management with GDT may decrease morbidity and hospital stay. We have utilized GDT in major invasive surgery such as pancreatoduodenectomy in November 2009. METHODS: In the anesthetic management of pancreatoduodenectomy, 11 patients managed by GDT were compared concerning postoperative hospital stay with 11 patients managed by conventional methods retrospectively...

Heteropropic ossification was initially described by Riedel in 1883. This is a rare disease but well documented in gastrointestinal tract. Several mechanisms have been proposed to determine the etiology of this metaplasia. We present a 59 year old male that was treated in the National Institute of Medicine Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán in whom after various abdominal surgical procedures the presence of bowel osseous metaplasia was documented.

Intussusception is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction in adult patients, but is common in children. In fact, it accounts for an estimated 1% of all cases of bowel obstruction in adults, although adult intussusception of the large intestine is rare. Sigmoidorectal intussusception, however, is a rare variety with few cases reported in the literature. A mucinous adenocarcinoma, a subtype of adenocarcinoma, is characterized by extracellular mucin production and accounts for between 5% and 15% of the neoplasms of the colon and rectum...

Although predominantly a disease in older adults diverticulitis does affect younger patients. The disease has been described as not only rare but virulent by some authors, and a young patient age is considered to be a relative indication for early sugery. The goal of this study was to evaluate the experience of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-Shreveport and affiliated hospitals with diverticulitis in young patients. This study was a retrospective chart review of 22 patients with diverticulitis age 40 years and younger over the past 20 years...
