We report a case of a life-threatening ruptured renal angiomyolipoma (AML) that did not meet the criteria for prophylactic treatment (tumor >4 cm or intratumoral aneurysm >5 mm) during follow-up. A woman in her 70s was followed up for a 2.5-cm AML with a rich vascular component. An intratumoral aneurysm >5 mm was not identified for 2 years. She complained of a sudden abdominal pain with hypotension, and contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a retroperitoneal hematoma with contrast media extravasation from an intratumoral aneurysm...

Retroportal artery is one of the communicating arteries between the hepatic artery and the superior mesenteric artery, but it is often a small artery and usually unrecognized. We report a 60-year-old man that was successfully treated for postpancreatectomy hemorrhage from the retroportal artery with compression of the celiac trunk by the median arcuate ligament. Following the pancreaticoduodenectomy, the bloody discharge was discovered through the drainage catheter. We underwent transcatheter arterial embolization for the bleeding from the retroportal artery associated with a postoperative pancreatic fistula...

BACKGROUND: Postpartum vulvovaginal hematoma is a complication of vaginal delivery that may progress to life-threatening conditions. However, the management of hematomas, including conservative therapy, surgery, and arterial embolization, is yet to be standardized. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to i) evaluate hematoma features that can be treated conservatively, and ii) determine which is superior in reducing blood transfusion between surgery and transcatheter arterial embolization...

The pseudoaneurysms of the cystic artery (CAP) are very uncommon. They usually develop as a result of an acute cholecystitis or after a cholecystectomy. Among the complications, we can find hemorrhaging, biliary blockage, and haemobilia. Limited understanding of the illness makes managing specific cases difficult. We describe a case of a cystic artery pseudoaneurysm complicating an acute cholecystitis that was successfully treated by transcatheter arterial embolization.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety, efficacy and predictors of response of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) to treat hepatic hemangiomas (HHs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted of consecutive HH patients who received TAE with bleomycin-Lipiodol emulsion and gelatin sponge particles at three institutions from January 2014 to January 2021. TAE effectiveness was defined as more than 50% reduction of tumor volume. The effectiveness, safety, and CT changes of hemangiomas after TAE were assessed...

Partial nephrectomy is the standard surgical procedure for small renal tumors. Since the advent of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN), the number of cases of renal tumors undergoing the procedure has increased exponentially. Urinary fistula is a complication of partial nephrectomy. Conservative management using ureteral stents is useful in most cases of urinary fistulas. However, some patients develop intractable urinary fistulas. Herein, we report a case in which vascular embolization was useful for treating an infected and intractable urinary fistula that developed after RAPN...

INTRODUCTION: symptom clusters (SCs) are highly prevalent among patients diagnosed with primary liver cancer. Malnutrition poses a heightened risk for a more pronounced total symptom cluster score. Furthermore, it aimed to investigate the association between nutritional status and symptom clusters. METHODS: primary liver cancer patients who were scheduled to receive TACE were recruited...

BACKGROUND: Several reports on organ injury and death due to incorrect chest tube insertion exist; however, reports on the chest tube penetrating the liver and reaching the inferior vena cava are limited. CASE PRESENTATION: A 79-year-old man presented with a clamped tube because of massive bleeding from the tube following right chest tube replacement in the hospital of origin. The tube entered the inferior vena cava from the hepatic parenchyma via the right hepatic vein and was removed 15 h later because his hemodynamics stabilized...

Prophylactic embolization is usually performed using gelatin sponge particles, which are absorbed within several weeks, for managing angiographically negative gastrointestinal bleeding. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) with quick-soluble gelatin sponge particles (QS-GSP) that dissolve in less than 4 h for treating angiographically negative gastrointestinal bleeding. We included ten patients (M:F = 7:3; mean age, 64.3 years) who underwent prophylactic TAE with QS-GSP for angiographically negative acute gastrointestinal bleeding between 2021 and 2023...

Beyond the commonly known clinical presentation of neurofibromatosis, vascular pathologies are increasingly becoming a known complication. We present a case of a 41-year-old adult with neurofibromatosis type 1 who came with a right-sided spontaneous hemothorax due to a ruptured 13-mm fusiform aneurysm of the right posterior T9 intercostal artery. Patient underwent a transcatheter angiographic embolization with subsequent video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) for a retained hemothorax. Patient was discharged home on Hospital Day 5, and follow-up imaging demonstrated a complete resolution of the hemothorax...

BACKGROUND: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a genetic disorder that causes fragility of the systemic connective tissues. Of the 13 subtypes, vascular EDS (vEDS) is associated with abnormalities in collagen production, resulting in arterial rupture and intestinal perforation. The SENTINEL Cerebral Protection System is one of the most commonly used devices for embolic protection during transcatheter aortic valve replacement. However, successful deployment of the SENTINEL device is often challenging in patients with a bovine aortic arch anatomy using the standard technique and requires extensive manipulation in the aortic arch increasing the risk of stroke. We describe a novel and simple technique of 2-filter deployment of SENTINEL device in patients with bovine arch anatomy. In this technique, after the deployment of the proximal filter, the device is hyperflexed on itself facing the lateral aspect of the ascending aorta instead of facing the descending aorta, with its tip pointing toward the common origin of the left common carotid artery (LCCA) and brachiocephalic trunk...

BACKGROUND: Acute ischemic stroke remains a serious complication of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Cerebral embolic protection devices (CEPD) were developed to mitigate the risk of acute ischemic stroke complicating TAVR (AISCT). Transcatheter closure of muscular ventricular septal defects (VSD) remains a safe and effective method with low complication rates. However, device migration can pose a significant challenge to interventional cardiologists due to potential mortal consequences.
