Uterine inversion is a condition characterized by the turning of the uterus inside out. We present a case series of non-puerperal uterine inversion that we managed based on the clinical presentation. A total of three cases highlight the challenges associated with diagnosis and surgical management, respectively. As a side note, we also have reviewed the available literature regarding the type of management available.

Despite notable advancements in minimizing maternal mortality during recent decades, a pronounced disparity persists between high-income nations and low-to middle-income countries (LMICs), particularly in intensive and high-care for pregnant and postpartum individuals. This divergence is multifactorial and influenced by factors such as the availability and accessibility of community-based maternity healthcare services, the quality of preventive care, timeliness in accessing hospital or critical care, resource availability, and facilities equipped for advanced interventions...

Over the 2016-2018 period, maternal mortality due to direct infectious causes accounted for 13% of maternal deaths by direct causes. The increasing trend in genital-tract infections related-deaths noted in the 2013-2015 report continues for the 2016-2018 period, but this 2010-2018 increase remains at the limit of statistical significance given the low number of cases (p 0.08). The 13 deaths from direct infectious causes for the 2016-2018 period were due to 4 cases of puerperal toxic shock syndrome (Streptococcus A beta hemolyticus or Clostridium group bacilli), 6 sepsis caused by intrauterine infection due to E...

OBJECTIVE: To analyze puerperal women's experiences of sexual health after childbirth from the perspective of symbolic interactionism. METHOD: Descriptive, qualitative study. Twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted by videoconference with women in the remote puerperium, captured by snowball technique and searched for "seeds" on Instagram®. Bardin's content analysis and Symbolic Interactionism were used as references. RESULTS: The puerperal women signify sexual health from a perspective of comprehensive healthcare...

OBJECTIVE: To verify the association between prenatal care quality indicators and neonatal outcomes in maternity hospitals. METHOD: Hospital-based cross-sectional study in four high-risk referral maternity hospitals in the five health macro-regions enabled by the Stork Network in Ceará-Brazil. Between April 2017 and July 2018, 440 puerperal women were interviewed using simple probabilistic sampling and a formula with finite populations and stratification of each maternity hospital...

AIM: This report of five cases of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) treated at Daeyang Luke Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi, illustrates presentation and treatment of this increasingly commonly recognized medical condition. METHODS: Information including history, physical examination, and imaging studies were collected from five cases of peripartum women who presented to the hospital over an 18-month period. RESULTS: A summary of recommended treatment is included in table form, and a flow chart proposing a care pathway for managing PPCM in Malawi, beginning at the district hospital level, is presented...

AKI is defined as suddenly impaired kidney function with the retention of nitrogenous and other waste products. In high population country like India, not all deliveries are done tertiary care. Even not all are registered one if delivery is conducted at a hospital setup. The majority of patients are being managed by available obstetrician at local places...

Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a leading global cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis, stillbirth, and puerperal sepsis. While intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP) is a currently available GBS disease prevention strategy, IAP is programmatically complex to implement, precluding use in low- and middle-income countries. In Kenya, 2% of stillbirths are attributable to GBS infection. Two maternal GBS vaccines are in late-stage clinical development. However, licensure of a maternal GBS vaccine does not translate into reduction of disease...

BACKGROUND: It is well known that breastfeeding plays an important role in the health of women and children. However, women are not always given optimal support and most do not reach their breastfeeding goals. About one in five, breastfeeding women report mastitis and a small proportion of these develop a breast abscess. Our aim was to describe the experiences of a group of Swedish breastfeeding women who developed a breast abscess. METHODS: A qualitative cross-sectional study with 18 study participants was undertaken in Sweden in 2017-2018...

INTRODUCTION: The maternal mortality rate in developing countries, such as Brazil, has significantly increased since 2020. Obstetric Emergencies (OE) account for 72.5% of these deaths. A national survey was conducted in Brazil to evaluate how gynecologists and obstetricians deal with OE and identify the main difficulties regarding theoretical/practical knowledge and structural resources. METHODS: An electronic questionnaire assessing resource availability, health teams, institutional protocols, and provision of OE training courses was completed by Brazilian obstetricians...

METHODS: This was a single-center, triple-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in southern India enrolling pregnant participants at risk of preterm delivery between 34 and 36 6/7 weeks of gestation. Hematoma in the Retzius space after a cesarean section is a rare complication. The Retzius space, also referred to as the prevesical or retropubic space, represents an extraperitoneal artificial cavity situated between the pubic symphysis and the bladder. In instances where conservative treatment involving vigilant monitoring along with analgesics and antibiotics or ultrasound-guided percutaneous puncture proves unsuccessful, re-operation becomes imperative. Our case report concerns a second-parity pregnant patient who underwent a cesarean section in the 39th gestational week...

The dairy cow experiences the most significant impact from negative energy balance during this period, which adversely affects reproductive health. Consequently, most pathologies affect dairy cows during this time frame. Thus, with the primary objective of reducing the incidence of these pathologies on dairy farms, we questioned whether supplemental zeolite administration in cattle feed would affect metabolism and reproductive health. Therefore, we proposed introducing an antepartum and postpartum supplementation of 400 g of zeolite in the basal diet...
