We report on the development of a multi-needle fiberoptic Raman spectroscopy (MNF-RS) technique for simultaneous multi-site deep Raman measurements in brain tissue. The multi-needle fiberoptic Raman probe is designed and fabricated using a number of 100 µm core diameter, aluminum-coated fibers under a coaxial laser excitation and Raman collection scheme, enabling simultaneous collection of deep tissue Raman spectra from a number of tissue sites. We have also developed a Raman retrieval algorithm based on the transformation matrix of each individual needle fiber probe projected to different pixels of a charge-coupled device (CCD) for recovering the tissue Raman spectra collected by each needle fiber probe, allowing simultaneous multi-channel detection by a single Raman spectrometer...

This study aims to delineate the lithological formations, in addition to a mineralogical mapping comparing between the ASTER and Landsat-8 OLI sensors in the Igoudrane region. The research was accomplished using BR along with spectral profiles of minerals, PCA, MNF, ICA, XRD, and reflectance spectrometry. The BR measured with ASTER revealed the presence of amphibole, illite, smectite, muscovite, phengite, basic degree index SiO2, calcite, chlorite, epidote, dolomite, hydroxides, and ferrous silicates. Furthermore, Landsat-8 OLI BR highlighted areas with oxides, hydroxides, and laterite...

Garcinia buchananii stem bark extract (GBB), commonly used for treating diarrhea in Africa, triggers ectopic aboral contractions, causing inhibition of propulsive motility in the colon ex vivo. To determine whether or not these effects were associated with decreased inhibitory neuromuscular transmission, the responsible constituent compounds, and mechanisms of action, we studied the effects of GBB and specific fractions and flavanones isolated from GBB on intestinal motility using pellet propulsion assays in guinea pig distal colons...

The current contribution conducted new geochemical, remote sensing integrated with gravity detailed studies of talc deposits to identify the talc protolith as well as its extension, depth, and structures. There are two examined areas, distributed from north to south, Atshan and Darhib and both belong to the southern sector of the Egyptian Eastern Desert. They occur as individual lenses or pocket bodies in ultramafic-metavolcanics following NNW-SSE and E-W shear zones. Geochemically, among the investigated talc, Atshan samples have high contents of SiO2 (av...

Pure-state single photons and large-bandwidth-correlation biphotons are fundamental resources for quantum information processing. The dispersion properties of micro/nanofiber (MNF) can be tailored by carefully choosing its diameter, resulting in a flexibly tailored biphoton spectrum. We theoretically investigate pure-state single photons and large-bandwidth-correlation biphotons produced by degenerate spontaneous four-wave mixing in MNF. In our simulation, a single-photon state with a purity of 99% will be theoretically attained by choosing the appropriate pump bandwidth and center wavelength with respect to the diameter and length of the MNF...

We prepared a tumor microenvironment-responsive magnetic nanofluid (MNF) for improving tumor targeting, imaging and treatment simultaneously. For this purpose, we synthesized sulfonamide-based amphiphilic copolymers with a suitable p K a at 7.0; then, we utilized them to prepare the tumor microenvironment-responsive MNF by self-assembly of the sulfonamide-based amphiphilic copolymers and hydrophobic monodispersed Fe3 O4 nanoparticles at approximately 8 nm. After a series of characterizations, the MNF showed excellent application potential due to the fact of its high stability under physiological conditions and its hypersensitivity toward tumor stroma by forming aggregations within neutral or weak acidic environments...

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based sensors play an important role in the biological and medical fields, and improving the sensitivity is a goal that has always been pursued. In this paper, a sensitivity enhancement scheme jointly employing MoS2 nanoflower (MNF) and nanodiamond (ND) to co-engineer the plasmonic surface was proposed and demonstrated. The scheme could be easily implemented via physically depositing MNF and ND overlayers on the gold surface of an SPR chip, and the overlayer could be flexibly adjusted by controlling the deposition times, thus approaching the optimal performance...

In the quest to create effective sensors that operate at room temperature, consume less power and maintain their stability over time for detecting toxic gases in the environment, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and MoS2-based hybrids have emerged as potent materials. In this context, the current work describes the fabrication of Au-MoS2 hybrid gas sensor fabricated on gold interdigitated electrodes (GIEs) for sensing harmful CO and NH3 gases at room temperature. The GIEs-based Au-MoS2 hybrid sensors are fabricated by decorating MoS2 nanoflowers (MNF) with varying size of Au nanoparticles using an inert gas evaporation technique...

As miniature fibre-optic platforms, micro/nanofibres (MNFs) taper-drawn from silica fibres have been widely studied for applications from optical sensing, nonlinear optics to optomechanics and atom optics. While continuous-wave (CW) optical waveguiding is frequently adopted, so far almost all MNFs are operated in low-power region (e.g., <0.1 W). Here, we demonstrate high-power low-loss CW optical waveguiding in MNFs around 1550-nm wavelength. We show that a pristine MNF, even with a diameter down to 410 nm, can waveguide an optical power higher than 10 W, which is about 30 times higher than demonstrated previously...
