Different generations (G3-G4) of amine-terminated Jeffamine® T-403 core poly(amidoamine) PAMAM dendrimers (JCPDs) were used as new macromolecular heavy metal chelating agent templates in polymer assisted ultrafiltration (PAUF) for the investigation of their removal ability for some of the divalent metal ions: Cu, Co, Ni, Cd, and Zn from aqueous solutions under competitive conditions. The effects of pH and generation size of JCPDs were also investigated. Extent of binding (EOB) data can be appropriately expressed by a tetradentate coordination for JCPDs at pH 9 where the maximum removal of metal ions was observed...

Manganese-based (chemically formulated of KMnF3) nanocrystal was evaluated as a liver-specific contrast agent for MR imaging, and also compare its imaging performance with those of two commercial hepatobiliary contrast media (Gd-EOB-DTPA and Mn-DPDP). KMnF3 nanocrystal was post-treated using plasma technique to cause severe defects, leading to appropriate water-dispersibility and high relaxivity. Severely defective KMnF3 nanocrystal (SD-KMnF3) is characteristic of high tolerance, as evidenced with cytotoxicity on macrophage cell, acute and subchronic toxicity on the healthy mouse...

A 70's man had been treated with gemcitabine(GEM)and nab-paclitaxel(nabPTX)combination for advanced pancreatic tail cancer with splenic invasion and liver metastases. However, the primary lesion was not controlled, then intensity-modulat- ed radiation therapy(76.5 Gy/17 Fr)was performed for primary lesion. Three grown hypovascular liver metastases were detected by follow-up EOB-MRI and PET-computed tomography(CT)imaging with 18F-FDG. Unfortunately, these lesions were not detected by intravenous injection of contrast media with CT nor ultrasonography...

INTRODUCTION: Copper-67 is an attractive beta emitter for targeted radionuclide therapy. However, the availability of67 Cu limits its potential use in a wide range of applications. In this study, we propose an easy small-scale production of67 Cu using64 Ni target for a preclinical study. METHODS: 67 Cu was produced from an electrodeposited64 Ni target via the64 Ni(α, p)67 Cu-reaction with a 36 MeV alpha beam at 15 eμA (electrical microampere) conducted for 7 h...

Gadoxetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA) is a hepatocyte-specific magnetic resonance (MR) contrast agent, which has been increasingly used in recent years. However, it has been reported that Gd-EOB-DTPA related transient severe motion (TSM) is sometimes observed during the hepatic arterial phase of MR imaging, which may influence image quality. Since the hepatic arterial phase of contrast enhancement is used for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, it is crucial to obtain a decent arterial phase imaging. The present study analyzed motion in patients receiving Gd-EOB-DTPA, comparing a single arterial phase acquisition to a five arterial phase acquisition to determine whether the multiphase acquisition was able to alleviate the TSM-related hepatic arterial MR imaging artifact...

OBJECTIVE: Many improvements have been made in diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the radiological hallmarks of HCC have remained the same for many years. We prospectively evaluated the imaging criteria of HCC, early HCC and high-grade dysplastic nodules (HGDNs) in patients under surveillance for chronic liver disease, using gadolinium-ethoxybenzyl-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA) MRI and diffusion-weighted imaging. DESIGN: Our study population included 420 nodules >1 cm in 228 patients...

OBJECTIVE: To describe Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced liver MR imaging findings in colon and rectal cancer patients who received Oxaliplatin. CONCLUSION: Spectrum of hepatobiliary phase imaging findings include diffuse heterogeneous dysfunction, macronodular and micronodular FNH-like lesions, and coexistence of periportal increased liver function with FNH-like lesions. Differentiation of these benign lesions from metastasis is crucial to avoid biopsy in patients with colorectal cancers and may allow better understanding of sinusoidal obstruction syndrome pathophysiology and regenerative response of liver...

Primary hepatic angiosarcoma is the most common malignant mesenchymal tumor of the liver. It has a poor prognosis and various appearances on magnetic resonance (MR) images. We report a case of hepatic angiosarcoma with a characteristic appearance on gadolinium-ethoxybenzyl-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA)-enhanced MR imaging in the hepatobiliary phase. A 72-year-old man was admitted with a complaint of abdominal pain. Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MR imaging revealed a liver tumor that showed slight hyperintensity in the hepatobiliary phase...

A 70-year-old man was referred because of suspected gallbladder cancer and gallstones. Contrast-enhanced CT, EOB-MRI and PET-CT could not completely rule out gallbladder cancer. The patient preferred follow-up without surgery. At 4 months after initial examination, the gallbladder wall thickening showed improvement, but appeared worse at 9 months after initial examination. Therefore, we decided to perform surgery. Since malignant findings were not observed on rapid intraoperative pathology, we performed a cholecystectomy and right hemicolectomy because of inflammation in the transverse colon...

A 60-year-old man was admitted for a liver mass(S3), which rapidly increased in size during intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm(IPMN)follow-up. Although EOB-MRIwas performed, the mass could not be accurately diagnosed as hepatic cancer. Thus, we performed a lateral segmentectomy. In the resected specimen, a solid tumor mass was clearly bound in segment 3 of the liver. Since histopathology revealed no malignant cells and many IgG4-positive cells, we confirmed the diagnosis as IgG4-related inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver...

A 56-year-old man with HCV infection was referred to our hospital for further evaluation and treatment of hepatic tumor. Abdominal enhanced computed tomography demonstrated an S8 hepatic tumor, about 15mm in maximal diameter. The tumor showed enhancement on the arterial phase and washout on equilibrium phase. EOB-MRI scan also showed the hepatic tumor with enhancement in the early phase and washout in the delayed phase. Liver function was normal. Serum AFP and PIVKA- II were normal and CEA and CA19-9 were elevated...
