Sternoclavicular injuries are relatively rare, composing less than 1 % of all musculoskeletal fractures or dislocations. When sternoclavicular injuries do occur, they typically present as an isolated dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint without associated fracture of the clavicle or manubrium. However, in patients with unfused medial clavicle physis, sternoclavicular joint injuries can present as a fracture-dislocation through the unfused physis. These physeal injuries are important to recognize as the displaced epiphysis can block reduction of the sternoclavicular joint...

OBJECTIVE: To compare therapeutic effects of clavicular hook-plate fixation and modified Weaver-Dunn surgery combined with clavicular hook-plate fixation in treating Tossy type III acromioclavicular joint dislocation. METHODS: Forty-one patients with Tossy type III acromioclavicular dislocation treated by operation were retrospectively analysis from January 2012 to January 2014. The patients were divided into clavicular hook-plate fixation group (group A) and modified Weaver-Dunn surgery combined with clavicular hook-plate fixation (group B) according to surgical procedures...

OBJECTIVE: To explore the operation methods and clinical effects of transfer of the medial half of the coracoacromial ligament to reconstruct the coracoclavicular ligament in treating complete acromioclavicular joint dislocation. METHODS: From January 2006 to June 2012,26 patients with acute complete acromioclavicular joint dislocation underwent surgery. Transfer of the medial half of the coracoacromial ligament to reconstruct the coracoclavicular ligament, additional clavical hoot plate and Kirschner wires fixation, were performed in all the patients...

OBJECTIVE: To further improve the accuracy of bone age identification using the time of secondary ossification center appearance and epiphyseal fusion of 7 joints to estimate the age of living individuals. METHODS: DR films were taken from 7 parts including sternal end of clavical and the left side of shoulder, elbow, carpal, hip, knee and ankle joints of 1 709 individuals who came from eastern China, central China and southern China, whose ages were between 11...

Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by sterile pustules predominantly involving the palms and soles of middle-aged women. Whether PPP is the acral type of pustular psoriasis or a distinct entity has long been discussed; however, the clinical features of PPP are really heterogeneous and different between Asians and Caucasians, which may depend on the race with backgrounds of different HLAs. PPP is closely related with psoriasis, but considered to be a distinct entity in Japan...

OBJECTIVE: To establish mathematical models which are used to assess bone age of living subjects in Chinese Han female teenagers. METHODS: Radiographs were taken from 838 normal Chinese female subjects aged from 11 to 20 years old including sternal end of clavical and the left side of shoulder, elbow, carpal, hip, knee and ankle joints, which were from Middle China, South China and East China. Then read and grade the 24 osteal loci in accordance with the grading criteria of skeletal growth of teenagers...

The medical records of 486 patients with pathologically proved squamous carcinoma of the skin of the external ear were analyzed. It is a disease of elderly white men, and the helix is the most common site of origin. Well-differentiated squamous carcinoma is the most frequent histologic variant. Ninety-five percent of our patients were treated surgically with above-clavical control in 87 percent and 28 percent survival. The low survival rate was related to the old age of the patients who frequently died of intercurrent disease and second cancers...

A 60-year-old man developed a left VIth-nerve paralysis and underwent biopsy of an extramedullary plasmacytoma in the sphenoid sinus. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated cytoplasmic IgD and lambda determinants. Subsequent specimens from left clavical and thoracic epidural lesions also showed a plasma cell neoplasm with IgD and lambda determinants. No abnormal plasma cells were found in bone marrow specimens. Lambda Bence-Jones protein and monoclonal IgD-lambda protein in the serum were detected several months after onset...

Arteriovenous (A-V) fistulae can be congenital or acquired. Acquired arteriovenous fistulae are met with during war as well as civilian practice as a result of penetrating injuries causing perforation in an artery and a vein which are surrounded usually by a firm sheath like the femoral, carotid or subclavian sheath, resulting in a communication between the artery and the vein. In the past, these fistulae were treated either by ligation of the feeding artery or by quadruple ligation after waiting for the collateral circulation to develop and feed the affected limb...
