BACKGROUND: Although changes in the gait biomechanics during pregnancy are known to occur, it is unclear whether they return to their original state after childbirth. RESEARCH QUESTION: The objective of the current systematic review is to summarize existing literature reporting the biomechanical characteristics of gait in postpartum women and to identify knowledge gaps that calls for future investigations in this population. METHODS: Relevant articles were selected using MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus (Elsevier), Embase (Elsevier), and Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics)...

BACKGROUND: Several types of health care professionals are responsible for the care of patients with cancer throughout their engagement with the health care system. One such type is the radiotherapist. The radiotherapist not only administers treatment but is also directly involved with the patient during treatment. Despite this direct contact with the patient, the narrative tends to focus more on technical tasks than the actual patient. This task-focused interaction is often due to the highly sophisticated equipment and complex radiotherapy treatment processes involved...

BACKGROUND: The differences between existing preclinical models and the tumor microenvironment in vivo are one of the significant challenges hindering cancer therapy development. Patient-derived tumor organoids (PDTO) can highly retain tumor heterogeneity. Thus, it provides a more reliable platform for research in tumor biology, new drug screening, and precision medicine. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review to summarise the characteristics of the existing preclinical models, the advantages of patient-derived tumor organoids in reconstructing the tumor microenvironment, and the latest research progress...

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are an important link in the maintenance and normalization of some important body functions. Recently, the metabolic component of the SCFAs effects has also been actively studied; the effect on body weight, insulin resistance and glycemia is of particular interest in the context of the prevention and treatment of carbohydrate metabolism disorders. In this regard, it is relevant to study the characteristics of SCFAs' production in patients with impaired carbohydrate metabolism, mainly with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)...

INTRODUCTION: The intersection of ageing and spinal cord injury (SCI) is of global concern. Two scenarios have been described: 1) "SCI with ageing," an increase in the average age of SCI onset, and 2) "ageing with SCI," an increase in post-injury life expectancy. These scenarios entail complex health care and rehabilitation needs due to the accumulation of comorbidities, ageing-related and SCI-induced physiological changes, and post-SCI secondary health conditions. We systematically reviewed Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) with the objective of identifying the extent to which SCI CPGs include recommendations for the rehabilitation and management of people who are "ageing with SCI" or who have acquired an "SCI with ageing"...

We report the first case of Sporothrix brasiliensis in a dog at Santiago, Chile. From an initial biopsy obtained from the patient, a histopathological study was performed that oriented a fungal infection. The molecular diagnosis from the isolated colony confirmed the identity of the S. brasiliensis agent. Although the literature indicates itraconazole as the first treatment option, the patient was treated with terbinafine followed by itraconazole, without achieving a clinical cure. S. brasiliensis that spread rapidly in Latin America, hence highlight the importance of timely diagnosis that contribute to maintaining human and animal health...

Background and Objectives : The widespread use of tobacco has evolved with the popularity of vapes, especially among young people, despite the lack of clarity in warnings about their risks. Studies indicate the need for more effective communication about the oral risks of vaping. In addition to systemic, respiratory, and cardiovascular effects, vaping is associated with an increased risk of gingivitis and periodontal disease as well as reduced antioxidant capacity of saliva. The objectives of this narrative review are to summarize the existing information in the literature on the effects of vaping at the oral level and to bring together knowledge about the mechanism of action of vaping in oral tissues...

Kidney transplantation is the ideal treatment modality for patients with end-stage kidney disease, with excellent outcomes post-transplant compared with dialysis. However, kidney transplant recipients are at increased risk of infections and cancer because of the need for immunosuppression. Kidney transplant recipients have approximately two to three times greater risk of developing cancer than the general population, and cancer is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality. Most of the increased risk is driven by viral-mediated cancers such as post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder, anogenital cancers, and Kaposi sarcoma...

Pungency of garlic (Allium sativum L.) is generated from breakdown of the alk(en)yl cysteine sulphoxide (CSO), alliin and its subsequent breakdown to allicin under the activity of alliinase (All). Based on recent evidence, two other important genes including Sulfite reductase (SiR) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) are thought to be related to sulfur metabolism. These three gene functions are in sulfate assimilation pathway. However, whether it is involved in stress response in crops is largely unknown. In this research, the order and priority of simultaneous expression of three genes including All, SiR and SOD were measured on some garlic ecotypes of Iran, collected from Zanjan, Hamedan and Gilan, provinces under sulfur concentrations (0, 6, 12, 24 and 60 g/ per experimental unit: pot) using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) analysis...

Diabetic nephropathy and peripheral neuropathy are the two main complications of chronic diabetes that contribute to high morbidity and mortality. These conditions are characterized by the dysregulation of multiple molecular signaling pathways and the presence of specific biomarkers such as inflammatory cytokines, indicators of oxidative stress, and components of the renin-angiotensin system. In this review, we systematically collected and collated the relevant information from MEDLINE, EMBASE, ELSEVIER, PUBMED, GOOGLE, WEB OF SCIENCE, and SCOPUS databases...
