Animals traverse vegetation by direct physical interaction using their entire body to push aside and slide along compliant obstacles. Current drones lack this interaction versatility that stems from synergies between body morphology and feedback control modulated by sensing. Taking inspiration from nature, we show that a task-oriented design allows a drone with a minimalistic controller to traverse obstacles with unknown elastic responses. A discoid sensorized shell allows to establish and sense contacts anywhere along the shell and facilitates sliding along obstacles...

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the application of anterior region suture of the popliteal hiatus (PH) under arthroscopy in the treatment of discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) injury with instability in the popliteal tendon region. METHODS: The clinical data of 53 patients (56 knees) with DLM injury who met the selection criteria between March 2014 and November 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 15 males and 38 females, aged 8-55 years with an average age of 36.5 years...

Background. Fixed drug eruption and Rowell syndrome stand as intriguing entities with overlapping clinical and pathological features. Case Presentation . A 32-year-old female patient presented with a tender and pruritic rash on the left upper chest for 3 days. Clinical examination revealed a flaring rash on the chest, under her left eye, tongue, and lips. The patient had a significant past medical history of systemic lupus erythematous with positive (ANA, Sm, dsDNA, ribosomalP, RNP) antibodies, hypocomplementemia, inflammatory arthritis, discoid lupus, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and immune thrombocytopenic purpura, and avascular necrosis affecting both hips and her right knee...

Complete resection of scattered superficial lesions can be paradoxically more complex. If the endometriosis is ovarian, priority should be given to preserving the oocyte capital, and ovarian function should be assessed in patients of childbearing age who wish to become pregnant, prior to treatment by alcoholization of the cyst, abrasion of its contents by laser or plasma energy, or even cystectomy. Laparoscopic resection is recommended in cases of deep endometriosis. After a thorough clinical examination and precise imaging, deep lesions are treated by resection and shaving in the case of digestive or ureteral localizations, or even by discoid resection or digestive anastomosis resection with or without stoma, depending on fistula risk criteria...

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a known sequela of chronic inflammatory conditions of the skin. Labial discoid lupus erythema-tosus (DLE), oral lichen planus (OLP), and lichen sclerosus have a relatively short lag time from dermatosis onset to manifestation of malignancy; cutaneous DLE, hypertrophic lichen planus, chronic wounds, hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), and necrobiosis lipoidica can be present for decades before an associated malignancy is observed. Vigilant monitoring is essential for orolabial DLE, chronic HS, and chronic wounds because malignancies in these settings are particularly aggressive and often fatal...

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), a subtype of chronic cutaneous lupus may be observed in a linear pattern. A 21-year-old woman with history of chronic granulomatous disease state presented to our clinic for a chronic six-year skin eruption on her left eyebrow, left cheek, and left forehead. A punch biopsy of involved left forehead skin was performed and revealed perivascular and periadnexal lymphohistiocytic infiltrate without features of morphea or panniculitis, confirming the histopathologic changes of cutaneous lupus erythematous...

BACKGROUND: Despite the fact that meniscocapsular anterior detachment is the most common location of instability in children with a Discoid Lateral Meniscus (DLM), there is a lack of consensus about the type of repair that should be utilized for stabilization. The aim of this study was to determine the best fixation method for anterior detachment of DLM in children. Our hypothesis was that excessive rigidity with fixation would restrict meniscal mobility and increase the rate of failure or prevent full knee flexion...

Flexible and stretchable triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have been rapidly advanced owing to the demand for portable and wearable electronic devices that can work under universal or motional circumstances. While versatile materials can be applied in a TENG as dielectric materials, flexible and cost-effective electrodes are crucially important for the output performance of TENGs. Herein, we developed a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel TENG doped with a novel two-dimensional material, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3 N4 ), which could act as both a cost-effective flexible electrode and a positive dielectric for TENG with different morphologies...

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a disorder of the immune system commonly seen in women of childbearing age. The pathophysiology and aetiology are still poorly understood, and no cure is presently available. Therefore, there is an urgent need to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms, as well as search for new therapeutic targets. Gene expression data from skin biopsies samples of DLE patients and healthy controls were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between DLE and healthy control samples were identified by differential expression analysis...

UNLABELLED: In this study, malt was produced in pilot-scale facilities and conditioned using three barley ( Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars in South Korea (Heugho, Hopum, and Kwangmaeg). Quality and starch characteristics were compared. The starch content was considerably reduced in all malts. Coleoptile elongation was higher in Heugho (HHM; 85.7% ± 12.6%) and Hopum (HPM; 83.9% ± 10.7%) than in Kwangmaeg (KMM; 78.1% ± 9.9%) malt. Malt yield ranged from 81...

Tumour-associated neutrophils can exert antitumour effects but can also assume a pro-tumoural phenotype in the immunosuppressive tumour microenvironment. Here we show that neutrophils can be polarized towards the antitumour phenotype by discoidal polymer micrometric 'patches' that adhere to the neutrophils' surfaces without being internalized. Intravenously administered micropatch-loaded neutrophils accumulated in the spleen and in tumour-draining lymph nodes, and activated splenic natural killer cells and T cells, increasing the accumulation of dendritic cells and natural killer cells...

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a common autoimmune skin disease in dogs. Conventional treatments, such as corticosteroids, can be effective but often have side effects. This case report presents a successful use of cannabinoid therapy (CT) in a dog with DLE resistant to conventional treatment. A 2-year-old mixed-breed dog with a history of DLE presented with worsening lesions despite treatment with corticosteroids and other medications. Liver enzymes levels were elevated, indicating corticosteroid-induced side effects...

Lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disorder with varied clinical features. Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) presents as erythematous, raised plaques. PURPOSE: In many diseases, an overabundance of macrophages contributes to adverse outcomes. While numerous studies have compared macrophage phenotype after mechanical stimulation or with varying local stiffness, it is unclear if and how macrophages themselves contribute to mechanical forces in their microenvironment. METHODS: Raw 264.7 murine macrophages were embedded in a confining agarose gel, where they proliferated to form spheroids over time. Gels were synthesized at various concentrations to tune the stiffness and treated with various growth supplements to promote macrophage polarization...
