Monitoring phosphorus fertilization is crucial for controlling the concentration of biologically available soil P. Over the years, several methodologies have been used, including successive cropping in a greenhouse or field, as well as extractions employing P sink procedures. The latter procedures are ideal laboratory experiments to show the soil's ability to supply P and to explore the P-residual release kinetics. Following these methodologies, long-term P desorption studies have been developed using dialysis membrane tubes filled with nanomaterial solutions...

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major global concern, with Indigenous Peoples bearing the highest burden. Previous studies exploring HCV prevalence within Indigenous populations have predominantly used a pan-Indigenous approach, consequently resulting in limited availability of Métis-specific HCV data. The Métis are one of the three recognized groups of Indigenous Peoples in Canada with a distinct history and language. The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is the only recognized Métis government in Ontario...

Nano-scale Mn oxides can act as effective stabilizers for Tl in soil and sediments. Nevertheless, the comprehensive analysis of the capacity of MnO2 to immobilize Tl in such porous media has not been systematically explored. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of γ-MnO2 , a model functional nanomaterial for remediation, on the mobility of Tl in a water-saturated quartz sand-packed column. The mechanisms involved are further elucidated based on the adsorption and aggregation kinetics of γ-MnO2 ...

Innovative advances in the exploitation of effective electrocatalytic materials for the reduction of nitrogen (N2 ) to ammonia (NH3 ) are highly required for the sustainable production of fertilizers and zero-carbon emission fuel. In order to achieve zero-carbon footprints and renewable NH3 production, electrochemical N2 reduction reaction (NRR) provides a favorable energy-saving alternative but it requires more active, efficient, and selective catalysts. In current work, sulfur vacancy (Sv)-rich NiCo2 S4 @MnO2 heterostructures are efficaciously fabricated via a facile hydrothermal approach followed by heat treatment...

This study proposes a simple evaluation method for deriving L-absorption information from two L-emission spectra of 3d transition metal (TM) elements obtained at two different accelerating voltages. This method realizes a spatial identity for X-ray emission and absorption spectroscopies. This method was evaluated for the Fe L-emission spectra of Fe and its oxides, and was applied to the TM L-emission spectra of MnO, Co, CoO, and NiO. The derived absorption peak positions were consistent with those obtained previously at synchrotron orbital radiation facilities, which considered the core-hole effect...

Glutathione (GSH) plays vital role in human biological systems, so its rapid and sensitive detection is necessary for health condition monitoring. In this work, a simple structure for dual channel GSH and refractive index (RI) detection is proposed. By introducing Au-MnO2 thin film coating on the fiber surface for the first time, GSH solution would lead to the dissolution of MnO2 , the change in GSH levels could be monitored over a short period in channel 2. For channel 1, ITO-Ag thin film is applied for RI change detection...

The increasing need for improved energy storage devices renders it particularly important that inexpensive electrodes with high capacitance, excellent cycling stability, and environment-friendly characteristics are developed. In this study, a wood-derived carbon@reduced graphene (WRG) conductive precursor with an average conductivity of 15.38 S/m was firstly synthesized. The binder-free WRG-MnO2 electrode was successfully constructed by growing MnO2 onto a WRG under hydrothermal conditions. The asymmetric supercapacitor assembled with the WRG-20 MnO2 cathode exhibited excellent electrochemical capacitive behavior with a voltage window of 0-2 V, maximum energy density of 52...

The phytochemicals that comprise the extract of Areca Nut Husk (ANH) have been discovered to serve as reducing agents. The role of phytochemicals is not only to aid in the reduction of Mn(VII) into Mn(IV), but they also have an important role in stabilizing the catalyst. In this context, we introduce a novel nanocatalyst denoted as MnO2-x @HA-CCM (MnHA@CCM NC) designed specifically for treating OSCC. MnO2 -Mn3 O4 heterostructure materials are applied in aqueous magnesium ion energy storage for the first time. The heterostructure yields an exceptionally high pseudocapacitance contribution, resulting in a specific capacitance of 313.5 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 , which contrasts with that of MnO2 (108.8 F g-1 ) and Mn3 O4 (123.5 F g-1 ). Additionally, it shows potential for practical applications as a cathode for magnesium ion hybrid supercapacitors (MHS).

With the addition of LiOTF in the electrolyte, the solvation phenomenon has changed with the coordination mode of Al3+ conversion from an all octahedral structure to a mixed octahedral and tetrahedral structure. Manganese(II) (Mn(II)) and bromide (Br- ) are common in natural waters. This study investigated the effect of in-situ Mn(II) oxidation and preformed MnOx on the brominated trihalomethane (Br-THM) formation during chlorination of bromide-containing waters. The results showed Br-THM formation could be substantially inhibited by in-situ Mn(II) oxidation, but the addition of preformed MnOx had limited influence on Br-THM formation during chlorination of bromide-containing waters. Analysis of bromine species showed that about 30 % bromine species were incorporated into the MnOx particles and formed MnOx -Br during the in-situ Mn(II) oxidation process...
