BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide with a serious threat to women's health. Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) has been identified as the main cause of cervical cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and genotype distribution of HR-HPV among women in Jingzhou, Hubei province, China, which is critical for the government to formulate the precision strategies of cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccine innoculation...

INTRODUCTION: Endometriosis is a worldwide gynacological diseases, affecting in 6-10% of women of reproductive age. The aim of this study was to investigate the gene network and potential signatures of immune infiltration in endometriosis. METHODS: The expression profiles of GSE51981, GSE6364, and GSE7305 were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Core modules and central genes related to immune characteristics were identified using a weighted gene coexpression network analysis...

BACKGROUND: Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are one of the most prevalent causes of cervical, anal, and oral cancer, and it is believed that nearly all sexually active males and females have been infected with HPV at some point in their lives. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to highlight epidemiological characteristics of the age and genotypical incidence of HPV infection among females in Canton Sarajevo during a 10-year period. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the period between January 2012 and December 2021 at the medical institutions "Zavod za Ginekologiju, Perinatologiju i Neplodnost "Mehmedbašić" among females who were admitted for a routine gynaecological exam in Canton Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina...

PURPOSE: Implanted fiducial markers are a commonly used tool in delineating the CTV in high-dose-rate interstitial brachytherapy (HDR-ISBT) for gynecologic malignancy, but their reliability in gynacological sites is not well understood. These markers and interstitial applicators can experience interfractional motion due to organ swelling or other anatomical changes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the spatial variation of these features. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The spatial positions of 50 implanted markers and 202 needles were tracked in 15 patients treated over 70 fractions of HDR brachytherapy...

Four new iridoids (1-4), together with three known iridoids (5-7), one known flavonoid glycoside, three phenolic acids and one phytosterol were isolated from the roots of Valeriana dioscoridis. Their structures were elucidated by means of NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. This is the first report on the phytochemical composition of the non-volatile constituents of V. dioscoridis and the occurrence of a bis-iridoid glycoside in the genus Valeriana. The antiproliferative effects of the iridoids (1-7) were evaluated against three human cancer cell lines of gynacological origin (HeLa, A2780 and T47D) at 10, 30 and 60 μM concentrations, using the MTT assay and they elicited modest antiproliferative activity when compared to the reference agent, cisplatin...

BACKGROUND: Development of cancer of the cervix is a multi-step process as before cervical cancer develops, cervical cells undergo changes and become abnormal. These abnormalities are called cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and are associated with increased risk of subsequent invasive cancer of the cervix. Oncogenic high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV), the causative agent of cervical cancer and its precursor lesions, is present in up to one-third of women following large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) treatment and is associated with increased risk of residual disease and disease recurrence...

In addition, tumour type and grade were correlated with nodal status and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. METHODS: Patients who underwent surgery and MR at our centre for early stage cervical cancer (FIGO IA1-IIB) were included. UNLABELLED: Knowledge of the risks of smoking during pregnancy induces only part of the pregnant women to give up smoking. How many pregnant women in Germany smoke from the beginning to delivery, and what characterises these smokers, is the topic of this article. METHODS: Results from the German Mikrozensus, several national surveys, perinatal statistics and Euro-scip III are presented, compared, and assessed. Findings of our own studies conducted between 1999 and 2002 at the obstetric department and gynacological practices in Berlin allow an insight into the magnitude of "underreporting"...

BACKGROUND: Small intestinal volvulus is a rare complication following Roux-en-Y anastomosis. CASE REPORT: A 63-year-old woman was diagnosed with small intestinal volvulus following laparotomy for clear cell carcinoma of the endometrium. Her past medical history included a total gastrectomy and antecolic Roux-en-Y anastomosis for Duke's B gastric carcinoma. Operative findings were of transmesenteric herniation of the ileum through the Roux-en-Y small intestinal mesenteric window, with metastatic deposits fixing the hernia at its base to create a volvulus...

This study analizes differents gynacological treatments of mental illnesses throughout the 19th century. The autor reaches the conclusion, via the professional activity of the English surgeon Isaac Baker Brown, that these gynological treaments were really the result of the confluence of a series of factors: the development of the insanity reflex theory, the consideration of Woman as the pathological prisioner of her genitality, the pessimistic vision of mental illness based on the theory of degeneration, the lack of therapeutic resources in mental medicine and, finally, the marked competition of Victorian doctors amongst themselves and also their profit motive, disguised and hidden under the welcoming cloak of a hypocritical medical morale...

In 30 cases (20 obstetric and 10 gynaecological), antibiotic prophylaxis took the form of a single i.m. injection of 600 mg of lincomycin and 80 mg of gentamycin, 30 minutes before the operation. In the remaining 30 cases (20 obstetric, 10 gynacological), the antibiotic cover was administered postoperatively by i.v. injection of doxicyclin (100 mg every 12 hours for 3 days and 100 mg every 12 hours per os for a further 2 days)...

The process--structure is underlieing the project for such a centre (summary from equal activities with equal claims to buildings, fitting and out hygiene). The singular spheres from the hospital of gynäcology and obstetrics will be coordinated to the equivalent central functional spheres of the "surgical orientated centre"...
