At the end of 2022, the adjustment of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic control policy in China resulted in a large-scale increase in public infection. To compare the fertility parameters of male patients before and after the adjustments of the COVID-19 pandemic control policy in China, we collected data on patients' medical histories and laboratory examinations on their first visits between June 2022 and March 2023 in five different hospitals. Data were divided into five groups according to the timeline of the policy adjustment...

Carotenoids are generally associated with health-beneficial effects; however, their intake patterns related to metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components remains controversial. This cross-sectional study investigated associations between dietary intakes of individual carotenoids, fruits and vegetables, and the MetS and its components. Dietary intakes of 1346 participants of the ORISCAV-LUX-2 study were investigated by a 174 item-food frequency questionnaire, and carotenoid intake was determined by linking findings using mainly the USDA food databases...

BACKGROUND: Metformin is an insulin sensitizer that is widely used for the treatment of insulin resistance in polycystic ovary syndrome patients. However, metformin can cause gastrointestinal side effects. PURPOSE: This study showed that the effects of quercetin are comparable to those of metformin. Therefore, this study aimed to systematically evaluate the efficacy of quercetin in treating PCOS. METHODS: The present systematic search of the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data Information Site, Chinese Scientific Journals Database (VIP), SinoMed, Web of Science, and PubMed databases was performed from inception until February 2024...

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a multifaceted condition influenced by genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. Among environmental factors, Bisphenol A (BPA)-a recognized endocrine disruptor-has been implicated in the development of PCOS. The study aimed to compare BPA levels in women diagnosed with PCOS with those in healthy controls, using the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique. The study involved 80 women diagnosed with PCOS and 50 healthy control participants. Demographic and biochemical parameters were recorded, including age, Body Mass Index (BMI), and levels of testosterone, estradiol, Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Prolactin (PRL), Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEA-S), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), and Insulin Resistance as measured by the Homeostatic Model Assessment (HOMA-IR)...

Tannic acid (TA) is a polyphenol with antioxidant properties present in various plants. In this study, we explored the protective effect of TA against ovarian oxidative stress in Brandt's voles and its underlying mechanism. At various doses, 3-nitropropionic acid (3-NPA) was intraperitoneally injected into Brandt's voles to simulate ovarian oxidative stress. Thereafter, various doses of TA were intragastrically administered to examine the protective effect of TA against 3-NPA-induced ovarian damage. Changes in inflammation, autophagy, apoptosis, and oxidative stress-related factors were investigated through various biochemical and histological techniques...

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a technique that directly injects a single sperm into the cytoplasm of mature oocytes. Here, we explored the safety of single-sperm cryopreservation applied in ICSI. This retrospective study enrolled 186 couples undergoing ICSI-assisted pregnancy. Subjects were allocated to the fresh sperm (group A)/single-sperm cryopreservation (group B) groups based on sperm type, with their clinical baseline/pathological data documented. We used ICSI-compliant sperm for subsequent in vitro fertilization and followed up on all subjects...

The manipulation of the somatotropic axis, governing growth, has been a focus of numerous transgenic approaches aimed at developing fast-growing fish for research, medicine and aquaculture purposes. However, the excessively high growth hormone (GH) levels in these transgenic fish often result in deformities that impact both fish health and consumer acceptance. In an effort to mitigate these issues and synchronize exogenous GH expression with reproductive processes, we employed a novel transgenic construct driven by a tilapia luteinizing hormone (LH) promoter...

Sinapic acid (SA) is renowned for its many pharmacological activities as a polyphenolic compound. The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a commonly encountered array of metabolic and hormonal abnormalities in females, has yet to be determined. Luteinizing hormone (LH) is essential for reproduction, controlling ovulation and steroidogenesis. Its receptor (LHR) recruits various transducers leading to the activation of a complex signaling network. We recently identified iPRC1, the first variable fragment from heavy-chain-only antibody (VHH) interacting with intracellular loop 3 (ICL3) of the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR). Because of the high sequence similarity of the human FSHR and LHR (LHCGR), here we examined the ability of the iPRC1 intra-VHH to modulate LHCGR activity...
