STUDY QUESTION: Is supraphysiologic estradiol (E2) an independent predictor of low birth weight (LBW) in singletons born after fresh IVF-embryo transfer (ET) cycles? SUMMARY ANSWER: Our results suggest that E2 > 2500 pg/ml is an independent predictor for LBW in full-term singletons born to normal responder patients undergoing fresh IVF-ET cycles. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: The pathogenesis of LBW in IVF singletons remains unknown. However, recent studies have suggested that the hyperestrogenic milieu generated during ovarian stimulation may create a sub-optimal peri-implantation environment, leading to placental dysfunction, and therefore, LBW...

Several studies have been demonstrated that endometrial leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is important in embryo implantation. LIF is a secreted glycoprotein with a variety of biological functions including stimulation of cell proliferation, differentiation and survival that are all essential for blastocyete development and implantation. The LIF receptor activates several signaling pathways in diverse cell types, including Jak/STAT, MAPK and PI3-kinase pathways in the endometrium of fertile woman. It has been suggested that the initial lower expression of LIF in proliferative phase may be one of the causes for multiple failure of implantation...

Embryo establishes contact with the endometrium during implantation. Proper endometrial vascular development and maintenance at the time of embryo implantation is crucial for successful pregnancy. Vascular development at the maternal-embryo interface can be regulated by various cell types, of which uterine natural killer (uNK) cells play an important role. Abnormal angiogenesis and uNK cell number/function may lead to reproductive failure, particularly in women with recurrent miscarriage (RM) and women with recurrent implantation failure (RIF) after IVF-ET treatment, which are the important clinical hurdles in reproductive medicine to overcome...

The aim of the study was to investigate the combined impact of the genetic heterogeneity of the glycoproteins Ia (GpIa) and IIIa (GpIIIa) and the platelet-endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1) and P-Selectin genes on IVF embryo transfer implantation failures (IVF-ET failures). Sixty nulligravida women with previous IVF-ET failures and 60 fertile controls were genotyped for the GpIa-C807T, GpIIIa-PlA1/PA2, PECAM-1-C373G (Leu125Val) and P-Selectin-A37674C (Thr715Pro) polymorphisms by pyrosequencing. Compared with wild-type combined homozygotes, carriers of combinations of risk alleles in two gene loci were at significantly increased risk for IVF-ET failure, whereas carriers of the combination of GpIa-807T, GpIIIa-PlA2 and PECAM-1-373G alleles had OR = 52...

Intestinal obstruction due to congenital intestinal malrotation is usually diagnosed in neonates but may, in rare cases, occur during pregnancy. The absence of specific symptoms in combination with its low incidence makes timely detection of intestinal malrotation-related obstruction difficult in expectant mothers. We present a rare case of a 23-year-old woman with a twin pregnancy following in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) who presented with symptoms of intestinal obstruction at 22+4 weeks of gestation...

Poor ovarian response (POR) observed in controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) is often observed during in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) cycles and is a major problem. A POR has been found to be related to several factors, including advanced age, high body mass index, and history of ovarian or pelvic surgery. However, it is difficult to predict POR, as there are no specific biomarkers known. In this study, we used quantitative proteomic analyses to investigate potential biomarkers that can predict poor response during IVF based on follicular fluid samples...

The incidence of ectopic pregnancy after assisted reproductive technology is increased approximately 2.5-5-fold compared with natural conceptions.Strategies were used to decrease the incidence of ectopic pregnancy, but ectopic pregnancy still occurs. In the present study, women were selected with decreased ovarian reserve (defined as FSH > 10 IU/L) aged 20 to 38 years who underwent IVF-ET between 2009 and 2014. These 2,061 women were age-matched with an equal number of women with normal ovarian reserve (defined as FSH ≤ 10 IU/L)...

Triclosan (TCS) exists ubiquitously in the environment. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that TCS exerts endocrine disruptive effects on reproduction, but data from human populations are limited and conflicting. The objective of our study was to investigate whether high urinary TCS concentration is adversely associated with early reproductive outcomes in women undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET). This prospective cohort study was conducted from September 2015 to June 2016, including 156 infertile women undergoing their first IVF-ET cycle...

To evaluate the efficency and safety of laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of interstitial heterotopic pregnancy (IHP) after IVF-ET, five patients with interstitial heterotopic pregnancy after IVF-ET treated by laparoscopy in our hospital from Jan. 2012 to Jan. 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. All operations were finished laparoscopically without any major complications and they successfully delivered. The results suggest that laparosccpic surgery is feasible and safe for IHP to maintain the trauterine pregnancy, and it can diagnose and treat IHP at early stage, which cause mininmal injuries and less disturbance to trauterine pregnancy and ensure rapid recovery...

Ovarian endometriomas affect 17 to 44% of women with endometriosis, and are often associated with pelvic pain and infertility. Treatment options include expectant management, medical and/or surgical treatment, and in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). The choice of treatment depends mostly on the associated symptoms. In most cases, surgery is the preferred choice, since endometriomas do not respond to medical treatment, which may only treat associated pain. In case of infertility, IVF-ET may be a suitable alternative to surgery, particularly when there is no associated pain...
