Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is a complex systemic autoimmune disease. This study aims to elucidate a humanized NOD-Prkdcscid Il2rgem1 /Smoc (NSG) murine model to better clarify the pathogenesis of SS. NSG female mice were adoptively transferred with 10 million peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) through the tail vein from healthy controls (HCs), primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS), and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients on D0. The mice were subcutaneously injected with C57/B6j submandibular gland (SG) protein or phosphate-buffered saline on D3, D17 and D31, respectively...

We prospectively analyzed clinical and laboratory characteristics associated with cardiac involvement and severe presentation in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. Of 146 patients, 66 (45.2%) had cardiac dysfunction and 26 (17.8%) had coronary artery abnormalities. Lower serum albumin levels, absolute lymphocyte and platelet counts, and elevated ferritin, fibrinogen, d-dimer and interleukin-6 levels were associated with cardiac dysfunction. Possible treatment complications were identified.

TIGIT is an inhibitory receptor on immune cells that outcompetes an activating receptor, CD226, for shared ligands. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes express TIGIT and CD226 on regulatory T cells (Treg) and on CD8+ T cells with tumor-reactive or exhausted phenotypes, supporting the potential of therapeutically targeting TIGIT to enhance anti-tumor immunity. To optimize the efficacy of therapeutic antibodies against TIGIT, it is necessary to understand whether there is therapeutic benefit from Fcγ receptor (FcγR) binding...

Infectious diseases continue to claim many lives. Prevention of morbidity and mortality from these diseases would benefit not just from new medicines and vaccines but also from a better understanding of what constitutes protective immunity. Among the major immune signals that mobilize host defense against infection is interferon- γ (IFN- γ ), a protein secreted by lymphocytes. Forty years ago, IFN- γ was identified as a macrophage-activating factor, and, in recent years, there has been a resurgent interest in IFN- γ biology and its role in human defense...

This study evaluated the possibilities of pumice (light stones) as litter material in broiler production. Experimental treatments included wood shavings (WS), acidic pumice (AP), and basic pumice (BP) alone, and in combination; wood shaving + acidic pumice (WSAP) and wood shaving + basic pumice (WSBP) in a ratio of 1:1. Two trials were performed, one in summer, and the other in winter. Each trial involved 750 mixed-sex Ross (308) broilers. Also, there were 15 replicate pens with 50 broilers and a stocking density of 12...

Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) are at high risk of developing severe COVID-19. The present study was undertaken to elucidate COVID-19 related morbidity and mortality in CLL patients treated with venetoclax. We present a single-center study of 108 patients with small lymphocytic lymphoma or CLL treated with venetoclax. Primary outcome was 30-day COVID-19 mortality. Secondary outcomes included COVID-19 severity and hospitalization rate. Forty-eight (44%) patients had PCR-verified SARS-COV-2 between March 2020 and January 2023...

Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), a dsDNA herpesvirus, is believed to play a significant role in exacerbating and potentially triggering autoimmune and autoinflammatory maladies. Around 90% of the world is infected with the virus, which establishes latency within lymphocytes. EBV is also known to cause infectious mononucleosis, a self-limited flu-like illness, in adolescents. EBV is often reactivated and it employs several mechanisms of evading the host immune system. It has also been implicated in inducing host immune dysfunction potentially resulting in exacerbation or triggering of inflammatory processes...

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disorder with a multifaceted pathogenesis. Immune dysregulation and immune cell dysfunction are among the mechanisms involved. TEA domain family member 4 (TEAD4) is suggested to play a role in psoriasis development. TEAD4 expression in keratinocytes may have a chemotactic effect and could disturb the function of FOXP3-positive T lymphocytes. This study aimed to evaluate the expressions of TEAD4 and FOXP3 in lesional, nonlesional psoriatic, and healthy skin and assess the clinical impact of their expression...

BACKGROUND: Tissue resident memory T (TRM ) cells are a T-cell subset that resides at the site of prior antigen recognition to protect the body against reoccurring encounters. Besides their protective function, TRM cells have also been implicated in inflammatory disorders. TRM cells are characterized by the expression of CD69 and transcription factors Hobit (homolog of Blimp-1 [B lymphocyte-induced maturation protein 1] in T cells) and Blimp-1. As the majority of T cells in the arterial intima expresses CD69, TRM cells may contribute to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis as well...

T cells mediate organ injury and repair. A proportion of unconventional kidney T cells called double-negative (DN) T cells (TCR+ CD4- CD8- ), with anti-inflammatory properties, were previously demonstrated to protect from early injury in moderate experimental AKI. However, their role in repair after AKI has not been studied. We hypothesized that DN T cells mediate repair after severe AKI. C57B6 mice underwent severe (40min) unilateral ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Kidney DN T cells were studied by flow cytometry and compared to gold-standard anti-inflammatory CD4+ Tregs...

INTRODUCTION: Immunotherapy by blocking immune checkpoints programmed death/ligand (PD1/PDL1) and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4(CTLA4) has emerged as new therapeutic targets in cancer. However, their efficacy has been limited due to resistance. Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative bacterium that induces acute lung injury (ALI) and inflammation in humans, necessitating immediate hospitalization and treatment. At present, the clinical treatment is largely dependent on hormones or antibiotics but is associated with drawbacks posed by the lack of eradication of the bacterium upon treatment and drug resistance. Therefore, there is an urgent need for novel and effective treatments. The current study investigated the treatment of K. pneumonia -induced ALI using a photosensitizer LD4 in conjunction with photodynamic therapy (PDT)...
