Sirt-1 is one of the most extensively studied mammalian Sirtuins that deacetylates histones and several non-histone proteins critical to cellular homeostasis. As a key sensor of cellular metabolism, it is regulated at multiple levels including transcriptional and post translational levels. As an allosteric enzyme, its activity is also modulated by ligands and certain endogenous proteins. The present study is an in silico approach to identify novel Sirt-1 binding proteins. Bioinformatic search for similarity in sequence, structure, and topology of binding region to Lamin-A, a known activator of Sirt-1, identified three proteins viz...

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the accuracy of subjective assessment (SA), the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) group Simple Rules Risk (SRR) and the Assessment of Different NEoplasias in the adneXa (ADNEX) model for the preoperative differentiation of adnexal masses in pregnant women. METHODS: The study population comprised 36 pregnant women (median age: 28.5 years old, range: 20-42 years old) with a mean gestation age of 13.5 (range: 8-31) weeks at diagnosis...

Ultrasonography(US) of the scrotum has been demonstrated to be useful in the diagnosis of fluid in the scrotal sac. Grayscale US characterizes the lesions as testicular or extratesticular and, with color Doppler, power Doppler and pulse Doppler, any perfusion can also be assessed. Cystic or encapsulated fluid collections are relatively common benign lesions that usually present as palpable testicular lumps. Most cysts arise in the epidydimis, but all anatomical structures of the scrotum can be the site of their origin...

Involuntary childlessness is a common problem. In about 50% of cases, inadequate semen quality plays a relevant role. A semen analysis provides information regarding exocrine function of the male reproductive organs of the testes, epidydimis, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and vas deferens. These parameters can only be interpreted in conjunction with medical history and physical examination. Then they can be useful to identify relevant disorders or the causes of these disturbances. The fundamental principles for the interpretation of a semen analysis are easily learned and traditionally belong to the field of dermatology...
