The pancake kidney (PK) is a rare type of renal anomaly in which both kidneys completely fuse without an isthmus. In the previous reports, PKs have double ureters and are located in the pelvic cavity. We encountered a rare case of PK with a single ureter, which is located in the left retroperitoneal space, in a 95-year-old female cadaver, which was detected during a dissection course. In our case, the major calyces joined to form a single renal pelvis, which continued as a single ureter. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on PK with a single ureter that is located not in the pelvic cavity but in the retroperitoneal space...

BACKGROUND: Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is characterised by an obstruction compromising the passage of urine from the renal pelvis into the ureter, and can be corrected by Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty (RALP). We aimed to evaluate the surgical outcomes of RALP, and examine the rates of true pain resolution following the procedure. METHODS: We retrospectively explored the records of all patients who underwent RALP between April 2005 and January 2017...

To reduce the invasive nature of extended pelvic lymph node dissections (ePLND) in prostate cancer, we have developed a multicolor fluorescence guidance approach that enables the discrimination between prostate draining lymph nodes (LNs) and lower limb draining LNs. Methods: In five porcine models multispectral-fluorescence guidance was performed using da Vinci Si- and Xi-robot consoles. They received fluorescein into the lower limb(s) and indocyanine green (ICG)-nanocolloid into the prostate. Results: Fluorescein was detected in 29 LNs (average of 3...

Primary hyperparathyroidism is one of the most common endocrine diseases, however, it is rare in children. In most cases, it is caused by adenoma of these organs. Its most common complications include urolithiasis, nephrocalcinosis and osteoporosis. CASE REPORT: A 16-year-old patient was admitted to our Clinic because of his first-ever renal colic. The ultrasound examination revealed rightsided hydronephrosis caused by the presence of 9 mm stone in the upper part of the right ureter. In addition, the presence of 8 mm stone in the middle calyx of the left kidney was found...

Hydronephrosis in children is most often due to an intrinsic ureteropelvic junction obstruction or by compression on ureter by accessory renal artery coming from the aorta to the lower pole of the kidney. AIM: The aim of study was to present a case with a late onset of hydronephrosis caused by accessory renal artery. CASE REPORT: 5-year old boy with a mild pyelectasia during first 10 months of age was admitted to hospital because of abdominal pain and vomiting. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a marked dilatation of the right pelvicalyceal system with renal pelvis measuring 23 mm in anterior-posterior (ap) diameter, enlargement of calyces to 10 mm and narrowed cortex to 5 mm...

A 54-year-old woman who had been treated with transurethral resection of bladder tumor for nonmuscle invasive urothelial carcinoma approximately nine years before presented with gross hematuria. Cystoscopy demonstrated a papillary tumor at the left side of the ureteral orifice. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a 1.3 cm non-muscle invasive lesion in the lower ureter from the ureteral orifice. She suffered from connective tissue disease treated with steroids. To avoid renal failure, we performed partial ureterectomy and ureteroneocystostomy...

The incidence of urothelial carcinoma (UC; formerly transitional cell carcinoma) is higher among renal transplant recipients compared with the general population. Upper urinary tract UC (UUT-UC) of allograft urothelium is a rare event with approximately 40 cases reported in the literature. Herein, we describe the clinical presentation and management of UUT-UC in a transplant ureter 10 years after deceased donor kidney transplantation.

Abdominal enhanced CT of a 72-year-old woman demonstrated 1 enhancing lesion in the left kidney, which suggested malignancy. No significant findings were reported in the right kidney and ureter. A Tc-DTPA renography was performed as part of the presurgical evaluation. However, the dynamics of urine elimination by the left kidney was normal, whereas elimination of the urine on the right one delayed, which was unexpected. The patient's CT images were further analyzed. An enhancing lesion in the right ureter was noted by further review, suggesting malignancy, which was subsequently pathologically proven as low-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma...
