The bovine herpesvirus type 4 (BHV-4) group has a slow replication cycle, a narrow host range, and cytopathogenic effects characteristic of cytomegaloviruses (CMV), but a Group B genome structure similar to that of lymphotropic Herpesvirus saimiri (HVS). Reference BHV-4 strain DN599 and BHV-4 strains N124 and FHV-2 induced in the cytosol fraction of thymidine kinase-negative (TK-) rabbit skin (RAB-BU) cell mutants a novel TK activity. The collateral projections of spinocerebellar neurons located in the L 2 to Ca 1 spinal segments in the cat were investigated by retrograde fluorescent double labeling technique. Rhodamine labeled latex microspheres (Rm) and Fast Blue (FB) were used for injections into the cerebellum in 8 cats. Two additional cats, with injections of Fluoro-Gold (FG) combined with Rm were excluded because lipofuchsin autofluorescence obscured the labeling. After injections with one tracer unilaterally in the paramedian lobule and another tracer bilaterally in the anterior lobe, double labeled neurons were found on the side of the paramedian lobule injection in the column of Clarke at L 2-L 4, laminae IV-VI at L 2-L 5 and the dorsolateral nucleus at L 2-L 6...

On four occasions since 1978, this 53 year-old woman presented with a right hemicorporal hypotonia, symptomatic of a hemispheric cerebellar syndrome. In 1981, she experienced the progressive development of a cervical dystonia. CT scan and RM scan showed a cavernous angioma in the right cerebellar hemisphere. The 18F-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-glucose PET scan revealed a right cerebellar and a contralateral cortical and striatal hypometabolism. This crossed cerebello-cortical diaschisis can be interpreted as a functional interruption of the cerebello-cerebral pathways...

Correlational analysis of normalized regional cerebral metabolic data obtained by positron emission tomography, in healthy subjects in the 'resting' state (eyes covered, ears plugged) using [18F]2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose, demonstrated gender differences in patterns of functional associations. Fifteen women and 18 men (less than 40 yr) were scanned with a Scanditronix PC1024-7B tomograph. The brain was divided into 65 regions of interest (ROIs). There were no differences between men and women in global or regional metabolic rates, or in metabolic right-left asymmetries...
